Chapter 52 Enemy or Friend?

“Zhou Lang, how could you think like that? I would never abandon you, no matter who else I leave behind. You are my precious treasure. Don’t doubt yourself. Ahua believes you have always been excellent.” I looked at him firmly.

Seeing his flustered expression, I pulled him in front of the sickly prince, said a few polite words, and then smiled and refused, saying, "Your Highness is too kind to me. I am just a woman with no great ambitions, so I won't trouble you."

My refusal seemed to be expected by the prince: "Is it because of you, my young husband, that you, Miss Ahua, are you here?"

"Yes, I have no great ambitions, I just want to live a simple and peaceful life."

"Understood, but Miss Ahua is always welcome." The prince's sharp, imperial gaze unexpectedly flashed with an unprecedented humility.

His magnanimity in personally going to such lengths for such a small person is truly admirable.

Just as he was about to speak, a servant rushed over and whispered a few words in Prince Mickey's ear: "That princess is causing a scene at the palace again, saying she's demanding to see the prince."

I heard these words clearly, and couldn't help but look up at Qingyan, who was completely still and unaware of what was happening. I could only shake my head inwardly.

Upon hearing this news, the prince's expression changed drastically. After exchanging a few pleasantries with me, he said, "I have important matters to attend to today, so I will not disturb you any longer." He then prepared to leave.

However, as they were leaving, I slipped a note to Qingyan and patted her hand to remind her not to make a fuss. Perhaps she was in a hurry to leave and only glanced at me before leaving.

The note contained the address of Ye Chen's hometown, his name, and a portrait of his appearance. I had prepared this in advance by personally visiting Qing Yan to investigate his background.

However, she happened to be here today, so I shamelessly forced the money on her. If she helps, I will; if not, so be it. Anyway, I'm about to kick this kid out of the house, and I can't bring myself to ask her for a favor.

After they left, I turned around and comforted Zhou Lang: "Look, they're gone, you can rest assured now."

"And what about him? He can't help at all, so what's the point of keeping him here?" Zhou Lang glanced at Ye Chen, who was sitting cross-legged under a big tree not far away, with a hint of gloom in his eyes and said with great dissatisfaction.

I squinted at that spot: "Yeah, we can't let him stay here and keep eating for free."

However, Ye Chen's lackey soon noticed that I was squinting at him, so he stood up and ran to me with a grin, saying, "Ah Hua, what are your orders for looking at me like that, young lady?"

I said to him in a nonchalant tone, "I only spared you from being sent to the government jail this time because you were sincere in admitting your mistake. You are no longer needed here, so you can leave. If I ever see you doing anything immoral again, I will definitely not let you off the hook."

Ye Chen, being quite sensible, bowed deeply and said, "Thank you, Miss Ahua, for your magnanimity. To express my gratitude, I will stay and help these craftsmen cook and boil water. I can also help you remake a few pieces of furniture as compensation. Only then can I leave with peace of mind. I will look after you here so you can rest assured. You must be exhausted these past few days."

What he said made sense. The prince had kindly hired people to do the work for free, so it would be a shame not to take responsibility for their meals.

This gives Zhou Lang and me some time alone, and I can't let this kid get away with it so easily. Since he said that, I said without hesitation, "In that case, I'll give you that chance."

However, Zhou Lang didn't seem very satisfied: "But, Ah Hua, I'm not comfortable entrusting our house to him."

Before he could finish speaking, I pulled him outside and said, "Zhou Lang, let's go for a walk nearby. You've worked hard these past few days, so don't worry about these things. Aren't there other people helping out? Even if he had ten times the courage, he wouldn't be able to do anything wrong."

I led Zhou Lang to a shady spot by a small river to cool off.

She casually poked Zhou Lang's still somewhat puffed-up, fair face.

I have no idea what he's angry about all day. I'm very puzzled. Is it because Zhou Lang and I haven't been intimate with each other for a long time due to the house building and Ye Chen's interference that our spiritual consciousness has degenerated?

"No way?" I stared at Zhou Lang suspiciously for a long time, then suddenly curled my lips into a wicked smile and pounced on him, knocking him down onto the grass. I lay on his broad chest, my eyes meeting Zhou Lang's.

She lowered her head and leaned down to press her lips to his warm, moist lips.

Zhou Lang then responded by entwining his lips with mine, and after a long while, we slowly pulled away from each other.

Whether it was the summer heat or shyness that made him blush, Zhou Lang gazed at me with tender affection. A gentle breeze blew by, ruffling his dark hair and stirring ripples in my heart.

Thinking that I should hurry up and finish building the house so that Zhou Lang and I can have some proper intimacy.

"Ahua, let's go back and keep an eye on that kid. I have a really bad feeling about it."

Zhou Lang, however, had no interest in continuing our romantic talk. He kept reminding me of Ye Chen's situation, which forced me to start carefully considering the matter as well.

To be honest, Ye Chen's arrival that night was too suspicious. And coincidentally, a strong wind blew down my and Zhou Lang's house that day. Now he's even sending me and Zhou Lang away. Could it be that he's planning to sabotage my and Zhou Lang's house?

Thinking of this, I no longer had the leisure to linger here with Zhou Lang. I should keep a close eye on that kid.

Zhou Lang and I stood not far from where the group of people were busy, secretly observing Ye Chen's every move.

He diligently and cheerfully assisted the construction workers, serving them tea and water.

There doesn't seem to be anything particularly unusual.

However, his wide grin, almost reaching his ears, made him seem like the owner of the house, which was somewhat annoying.

"Are we overthinking this?" I turned to look at Zhou Lang, who was gazing thoughtfully at the busy people not far away.

“Ah Hua, a long, long time ago, I think I’ve seen this person before. He looks familiar, but I can’t quite place who he is,” Zhou Lang explained.

I noticed that Zhou Lang answered very seriously: "Do you really know this person?"

"So, do you remember clearly whether he was friend or foe?" I asked casually. Zhou Lang shook his head: "He was like an enemy, but also like an old friend. Some fragments about him are very blurry."

Zhou Lang covered his head with both hands, seemingly recalling something in pain.

"Okay, okay, if you can't remember, let's not think about it for now." I quickly stepped forward to stop him and comfort him.
