Chapter 8 Silent Protection
A complex emotion flashed across Zhou Yanci's eyes as she quickly chased after him.
They didn't even pause for a second when passing through the slumbering.
The others stood there, stunned.
What's going on?
Zhou Yanci actually abandoned Chenmian and left?
At the same time, Shang Wu quickly left the bar.
The surprise and hurt on her face had vanished, replaced by indifference.
Many cars were parked at the entrance, waiting to pick up passengers.
She got into the nearest car, closed the door, and picked up her phone.
When she hung up the phone from Zhou Yanci, she didn't even look up and said, "Please, go to Junyue Mansion."
After saying that, the driver neither started the car nor spoke.
Shang Wu looked up in confusion.
A man was sitting in the driver's seat of the Lexus.
He glanced at me sideways; his features were striking, but his eyes held no emotion.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds, and Shang Wu didn't react immediately: "It's you?"
Lu Rang scoffed: "Miss Shang only ever says these two words when she meets people?"
Shang Wu caught a glimpse of Zhou Yanci chasing after her from the bar entrance and immediately knocked on the chair.
"Drive first."
Lu Rang's gaze was already displeased: "I'm waiting for my friend, not your Didi driver. Get out."
Shang Wu bit her lip. Seeing that Zhou Yanci had started looking at the people sitting in each car, she immediately leaned over and lay down on the back seat.
Lu Rang frowned.
Zhou Yanci searched around but couldn't find anyone, so she anxiously went into the bar.
"The person has left, go downstairs immediately."
His tone was cold and stern, tinged with impatience and annoyance.
Shang Wu knew this man disliked trouble, but she didn't expect him to react so strongly, as if he was afraid of getting himself into trouble and getting involved in her love affairs.
She pursed her lips, turned around and got out of the car without saying a word.
Shang Wu thought for a moment, then turned back to the passenger side and knocked on the window.
Lu Rang lowered the car window slightly and looked at her.
“I’ll get the money. You should seriously consider whether you want to take this job, okay?” Shang Wu looked at him intently, her eyes fixed on him.
The bar sign lights shifted between red and blue, while Lu Rang's expression remained hidden in the shadows.
After a long pause, he gave a soft "hmm," so soft it was almost inaudible.
Shang Wu breathed a sigh of relief, quickly left, and got into a taxi ahead.
Inside the taxi, a woman with a tattooed arm extended out, and a hand wearing a gold watch flicked off cigarette ash.
He doesn't look like a proper driver.
Lu Rang's gaze continued to follow.
A man walked over, sat in the passenger seat, and rubbed his temples.
"Those bastards are real dogs! They only agreed to testify for the defendant after we've talked them out for so long!"
After saying that, Yan Yue wrinkled his nose suspiciously: "Is there something wrong with my sense of smell? Why does your car smell like a woman?"
Lu Rang started the car, paused for two seconds, and said, "You smelled it wrong."
"That's true, you're always focused on your work, all those pretty girls at the front desk are wasting their time flirting with you, why don't you ever look at me? I'm not bad looking either..."
Yan Yue leaned closer, staring at the rearview mirror and touching his chin.
Lu Rang ignored it, looked straight ahead at the taxi in front of him, and slowly stepped on the gas.
"Oh, by the way, I heard you asked a client for ten times the reward at noon today. What case is so difficult? Everyone's talking about it." Yan Yue leaned against the passenger seat and looked at him.
This was the first time Lu Rang had offered to pay more money.
Lu Rang finally responded: "The merchant's case."
"Oh... Ah?!"
Yan Yue sat up straight in surprise: "Isn't the merchant case already closed? Some went to jail, some received compensation. It was a high-profile case that lasted for more than half a year. There should be no objections now."
Lu Rang glanced at the traffic lights.
Three seconds left.
He stepped on the gas and accelerated.
"Who's looking for you? It can't be Shang Wu, can it? She's engaged to President Chengzhou now. If she wants to investigate anything, she should go to Jinshui Law Firm!"
Yan Yue rested his head on his arm, leaned back, and sneered: "Hmph, Jinshui is now backed up by Zhou Yanci, and is doing incredibly well. They dare to challenge us!"
Lu Rang stepped on the brakes.
The car stopped at the Grand Hyatt Residence.
A slender figure got out of the taxi ahead and entered the residential area.
Yan Yue was completely bewildered: "What are you doing? Do the four characters of Junyue Mansion and Dingfeng Law Firm look that similar?"
Lu Rang watched the taxi stop for a few seconds before driving away before turning his car around.
...
When Shang Wu got home, she kicked off her high heels, shook her sore ankles, and took out a bottle of water to drink.
The phone was still buzzing.
She hung up on Zhou Yanci for the eighteenth time and went upstairs to take a shower.
When they came out, there was indeed someone sitting in the living room.
Shang Wu looked down at Zhou Yanci: "What are you doing here? Go back to your home."
Zhou Yanci immediately stood up, her eyes filled with tension and guilt, so much so that she didn't know what to do with her hands.
"I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. But I have no interest or feelings for Shen Mian. I just didn't want you to hit someone in public and it would get out, really!"
Shang Wu's eyes flashed, and she went downstairs.
Seeing that she was finally willing to communicate, Zhou Yanci breathed a sigh of relief.
After Shang Wu stormed out, he chased after her without even paying attention to Chen Mian. When he couldn't get through on the phone, he had no desire to stay at the party and didn't want to deal with Chen Mian anymore.
He only felt a little relieved when he found his way here like a headless fly and heard the sound of a shower going on upstairs.
Perhaps he was just afraid that Shang Wu would notice something was wrong and shake their relationship.
Now is a crucial time for the jewelry department to launch new products, and we cannot afford to have any relationship problems with Shang Wu.
Yes, that's all he's worried about.
Zhou Yanci looked focused and gently took Shang Wu's hand, wanting to kiss the back of her hand.
Shang Wu dodged it.
Zhou Yanci sighed softly, "Awu, please forgive me. I won't do it again next time."
Shang Wu turned her head away, still ignoring him.
Seeing that she wouldn't budge, Zhou Yanci grew impatient.
He grew up surrounded by servants and lived a life of luxury, and he disliked bowing down and being humble in front of a woman.
"What do I have to do to stop you from being angry? Ah Wu, I remember you weren't this petty before. You always forgave me quickly. What's wrong with you today?"
Shang Wu remained silent, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Zhou Yanci was taken aback, walked around to stand in front of her, and couldn't help but gasp.
Shang Wu was already in tears, weeping silently.
She bit her lip, her face full of suppressed vulnerability: "You protected Chenmian in front of so many people today, and you think a few words of apology are enough? Do you know how much it hurt me?"
Zhou Yanci's heart softened immediately, and she hugged Shang Wu in her arms: "I'm sorry, it's all my fault, please don't cry, okay? It really hurts me."
Shang Wu leaned on his shoulder, her eyes filled with hatred, and gently climbed onto Zhou Yanci's arm with both hands.
"Then, promise me one thing, and I'll forgive you."
Zhou Yanci smiled and ruffled her hair: "Tell me, what is it?"
"Give me back my savings account," Shang Wu said casually.
Zhou Yanci's expression changed instantly, then returned to normal. She asked, puzzled, "Why do you suddenly want your account? Isn't the money in your card enough? I'll transfer another million to you. Buy whatever you want."
Shang Wu bit her lip: "But I want to keep the account myself. I'm planning to buy a piece of land to open a shop and do some side business. I also want to buy the riverside villa we'll use for our wedding. There are places where I need money everywhere."
Zhou Yanci hesitated: "The jewelry department is so busy, can you manage to keep up with your side job?"
"But you promised to let me open a restaurant that only serves the dishes we love, and you also wanted to decorate the villa in our preferred style." Shang Wu's eyes were full of longing as she grabbed his hand and gently shook it.
All these expenditures revolve around Zhou Yanci.
Zhou Yanci smiled, thoroughly enjoying the fact that Shang Wu's life revolved around him and that he couldn't live without him.
His slightly satisfied gaze fell on Shang Wu, successfully pleased: "Okay, go to the finance department tomorrow and tell them."
Shang Wu smiled faintly.
"Words, you are so kind."
She smiled, but her eyes were as cold as ice.
Just as Zhou Yanci was about to hug her again, his phone suddenly rang.
He took his phone out of his pocket, saw the caller ID, his expression changed slightly, and he turned and walked to the window to answer it.
"Uh-huh."
Zhou Yanci hummed twice and immediately lowered her voice, saying, "How could she be drunk? Okay, I'll be right there. Don't let anyone take advantage of her."
After hanging up the phone, he looked up and found Shang Wu standing behind him with a suit jacket in her hand.
Zhou Yanci felt her heart leap into her throat.
His phone call was probably overheard.
He looked at Shang Wu nervously: "Ah Wu, a friend of mine got drunk and got into a fight..."
"Go quickly, take care of things, and be careful."
Shang Wu interrupted with a smile and handed him her coat.
Zhou Yanci felt relieved. Before leaving, she paused, turned back, and said firmly, "Awu, I love you."
Shang Wu pursed her lips shyly: "Yes, me too."
Zhou Yanci then left without looking back.
As soon as the car drove away, Shang Wu's expression turned cold.
She heard it clearly; it was Gu Ziqian who called, asking Zhou Yanci to see Chen Mian.
Shang Wu remained completely unmoved.
She has more important things to deal with.
...
The next day.
Shang Wu got up very early.
She did not receive the overseas team, and briefly informed them over the phone that the jewelry department had no plans to expand internationally.
The other party was stunned for a full half minute on the phone, seemingly unable to understand why Chengzhou Group would refuse such a good deal that could increase sales and make a fortune by paying a little advertising cost overseas.
Shang Wu hung up the phone and thought to herself with a self-deprecating smile: She must have lost her mind to seek so many benefits for Cheng Zhou.
Now, everything she has done for the group, the profits she has worked so hard to generate for Zhou Yanci, and all the fame and titles she has given to Ji Yu will be taken back.
Soon, the car stopped outside a high wall and iron gate.
Shang Wu looked up and saw the four characters "prison" on the sign.
Aoki Prison.
She instinctively gripped the steering wheel tighter.
After her brother was imprisoned for her sake, the pampered young master who had been surrounded by a halo since childhood and lived in a privileged environment suddenly became a prisoner.
Even though her brother told her time and time again that he did not regret being imprisoned for protecting his family, Shang Wu knew that he could not get over this hurdle in his heart.
Her brother told her to visit him in prison less often because he didn't want to face the fact that her life was ruined.
Shang Wu knew her brother was holding a grudge and didn't dare to apply for prison visits when things were normal.
But now, she has to see her brother.
