Chapter 10 The Drama of the Drama Queen Mother and Son Was Ruined
The aroma of alcohol wafted towards me, mingled with the scent of a woman.
Shang Wu pinched her nose and backed away: "What's that smell in your room?"
Zhou Yanci's expression stiffened slightly. She sniffed the room twice and said, "I probably drank too much yesterday. The smell is quite unpleasant, and the room is a mess. You shouldn't come in. Let's go downstairs and talk."
He pulled Shang Wu away, closing the door behind him.
Shang Wu didn't even see a glance inside; she was practically dragged away by Zhou Yanci.
She asked, "Weren't you dealing with your friends' fight yesterday? How come you drank so much? The finance department said my account handover requires a key, and you didn't answer their calls."
"I didn't hear you."
Zhou Yanci's palms were a little sweaty. She took out her phone and called the finance department, giving a gentle, slightly ingratiating smile.
"Alright, you can use the money in your account as you like now."
Shang Wu smiled and said, "Okay, then I'll be going now."
Zhou Yanci secretly rejoiced: "See you at the company later. I'll come over at noon, and we'll have lunch together."
Shang Wu remained calm and said, "I have some things to take care of this afternoon, so I might not be at the company."
"It's alright, we'll eat there tonight." Zhou Yanci saw her to the door.
Just then, the upstairs door clicked open.
The two of them stopped at the same time.
Sleepy-eyed, Chenmian rubbed her forehead and yawned: "Aci..."
Zhou Yanci's face instantly turned ugly.
Upon seeing him and Shang Wu behind him, Chen Mian was stunned for a moment, then revealed a guilty and embarrassed expression, and hurriedly shook his head.
"No, Miss Shang, please don't misunderstand! Nothing happened between us!"
Shang Wu could tell at a glance that Chen Mian was doing it on purpose.
No mistress would knowingly venture out to provoke the wife who is already in the relationship.
Is this how you play it?
She had just returned from visiting her brother in prison, still seething with resentment and nowhere to vent her anger.
Shang Wu's eyes turned cold, and she raised her hand to slap him.
Snap!
She slapped Zhou Yanci across the face with all her might.
Zhou Yanci tilted his head.
Shang Wu raised her hand to strike again, responding to the startled cry from the sleeping man.
A slap landed on the other side of Zhou Yanci's face.
Shang Wu used real force, and his hands were shaking from the pain afterward.
She clenched her fists tightly, revealing a perfectly timed expression of pain: "Zhou Yanci, I was so happy to leave myself for you on our wedding night, and you just cheated on me with your ex-girlfriend like this! You've gone too far!"
Shang Wu burst out of the door.
There was no movement from Zhou Yanci behind him, but Chenmian called out to him as he rushed downstairs.
It sounds like he was stunned by the beating.
With a mocking look in his eyes, Shang Wu stepped on the gas and decisively left this disgusting place.
Back at Chengzhou, she immediately took her savings account to Dingfeng.
Less than three days had passed, and Shang Wu couldn't wait any longer.
After much deliberation, she concluded that there was no more suitable partner than Dingfeng Law Firm.
First, Dingfeng and Jinshui Law Firm, which is supported by Zhou Yanci, are competitors.
Secondly, she checked and found that none of Dingfeng's lawyers had participated in the business case back then, and none of them had been approved by Zhou Yanci.
Finally, although Lu Rang is not easy to approach, he has high professional competence and professional ethics. Once a collaboration is established, efficiency is paramount, and he only seeks results without gossiping with clients.
She's practically the best person to exonerate her brother.
Shang Wu felt a pang of sadness when she thought about her brother's situation in prison.
She rushed to Dingfeng in a great hurry.
Upon arrival, the receptionist told Shang Wu that Lu Rang and the other lawyers were out collecting evidence and were not present.
Shang Wu took Lu Rang's business card and left first. As soon as she went out, she received an email.
She opened the file that Qiu Ting had sent her.
Inside are the complete set of winter limited edition design sketches.
It's very much in her style, but the design is a bit rough, clearly something Qiu Ting dug out from her previous drafts.
Qiu Ting called: "Sis, are you alright?"
Shang Wu smiled, opened the car door and got in: "Great job, you're worthy of being my apprentice. But you still have that bad habit of calling me 'sister' instead of 'master'?"
"What master? You're too old to be called that." Qiu Ting laughed, but seemed preoccupied. "Last time was too rushed, I didn't have time to ask you how you were going to get revenge on Ji Yu? What did she do?"
Shang Wu felt a tightness in her chest, and the smile on her face vanished, replaced by a cold hatred in her eyes.
"She leeched off me for ten years. When I was in school, she ate my food, wore my clothes, and used my things. When she got a job, she used my design drafts to achieve success, but behind my back, she criticized my work as vulgar and low-class. Also, she was involved in the trouble that happened to the business back then."
She calmly recounted these events, both to explain them to Qiu Ting and to practice her ability to control her emotions.
Is it painful? Of course.
Remember the feeling of pain; it will become a force that propels you forward.
Qiu Ting remained silent for a long time before finally gritting her teeth and saying, "I will help you. Whatever you need to do in the future, I will help you."
Shang Wu smiled, the hatred in her eyes dissipating: "Wait, when the time is right, you'll have to step in again."
She hung up the phone and scheduled to send the document to Ji Yu three days later.
Just then, an uninvited guest arrived.
Upon seeing "Mrs. Zhou" on the caller ID, Shang Wu paused.
Zhou Yanci's mother didn't like her and even refused to let her call her "Auntie".
Despite disdaining her family's decline, Zhou Yanci insisted on getting involved in the merchants' mess.
Even though she shone brightly in the jewelry department and worked like a slave for Cheng Zhou, Zhou's mother never gave her a kind look.
Zhou Yanci protected her a lot because of this, and even argued with her own mother.
Shang Wu was deeply moved and became extremely loyal to Zhou Yanci, working even harder to prove her worth to Zhou's mother.
Not only did she handle everything in the jewelry department, but she also took responsibility for dealing with partners that Zhou Yanci couldn't handle, resources that she couldn't find, and even the speech draft that was lost before the interview.
Even after the jewelry business took off, Zhou's mother still didn't think highly of her.
Unfortunately, Zhou's mother always caused her trouble when Zhou Yanci needed her to run errands for the company and handle unexpected incidents.
One person played the "good cop" to make things difficult for her, while the other played the "bad cop" to protect her, thus getting her to help solve the company's problems.
Over the past few years, she has been completely manipulated by the acting tactics of Zhou's mother and Zhou Yanci.
Shang Wu pressed her temples and answered the phone.
"Hello, is there anything I can help you with, Madam?"
Zhou's mother said in a low voice, "Come here, I need to talk to you."
Shang Wu narrowed her eyes.
It seems Zhou Yanci is about to put on another big show?
She responded and hurried to the Zhou family's house.
The Zhou family's butler was waiting at the door.
Seeing Shang Wu approaching, he went to greet her.
Shang Wu followed him closely inside, arriving at the luxurious and bright living room.
Zhou's mother sat upright in front of the French windows, her jade bracelet-adorned hand fiddling with a vase on the table.
Seeing the person come in, she snorted coldly without even lifting her eyelids.
"You've really got some nerve! You've slapped my son's face so hard it's swollen. Don't you know there's a routine meeting at the company today? How can he attend the meeting if you're making such a scene!"
With the last sentence, Zhou's mother raised her voice and threw a slightly withered hydrangea at Shang Wu.
Petals fluttered down, some landing on Shang Wu's clothes.
Shang Wu's eyes turned cold. She slowly brushed aside the petals on her body and picked up the hydrangea.
"According to Madam, if Yanci sleeps with other women behind my back, I should just tolerate it and pretend I don't know?"
Zhou's mother slammed her hand on the table: "You need to get to the bottom of this! Nothing happened between them. Yan Ci just saw that Miss Chen was drunk and had nowhere to go, so he took her home for one night. Is that your reason for hitting her?"
Shang Wu walked towards the trash can on the table, and paused upon hearing this.
She chuckled softly: "Even if nothing happened, shouldn't I be angry that my fiancé brought his ex-girlfriend home for the night without my permission? Zhou Yanci didn't say anything, so why did you call me here?"
Shang Wu suddenly changed direction and put the flowers in the vase.
It instantly ruined the harmony of the entire vase of flowers.
Zhou's mother took a deep breath: "It seems you don't realize at all that hitting someone is wrong! Fine, then I'll slap you twice too, so you can taste how much pain my son can feel!"
She berated the housekeeper and servants.
"Hold her down!"
Shang Wu's gaze shifted, and she saw the ostentatious Art Kalman parked outside.
They came at just the right time.
The butler and servants surrounded Shang Wu and held her down.
Shang Wu had never resisted fiercely before, and they had always done so casually.
Zhou's mother walked over, her eyes flashing with malice as she slapped Shang Wu.
Shang Wu grabbed the butler and stood in front of him, taking a step back herself.
Snap!
The butler received a solid slap and before he could react, he suddenly felt a hard push on his lower back.
He lunged at Zhou's mother out of control.
"ah!"
A scream erupted, and people and horses fell to the ground.
Zhou Yanci rushed in: "Don't hurt Awu!"
He froze after saying that.
Shang Wu and the dumbfounded servant stood perfectly fine to the side, while the obese butler was pinning his mother to the floor.
Zhou's mother was so overwhelmed by the pressure that her eyes rolled back. She turned her head and saw that the bracelet she had worn for decades was broken. She couldn't catch her breath and fainted.
The butler hurriedly got up.
"mom!"
Zhou Yanci rushed in immediately, hugged her mother in her arms, and pinched her philtrum.
Zhou's mother kicked her legs and slowly woke up, staring at Shang Wu behind the servant with a vicious and cold gaze.
"It's her..."
She raised her hand tremblingly: "It's her!"
Zhou Yanci frowned, her face still bearing obvious red marks, and turned to look at Shang Wu.
Shang Wu then feigned a moment of helplessness and explained, "Madam was about to hit me, so I just dodged. I don't know how the steward ended up bumping into Madam."
"That's not how it happened!" The butler stepped forward, covering his face. "She not only dodged, but she also pushed me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen on Madam!"
Shang Wu glanced at him with her misty eyes: "Do you have any evidence? Or... did someone see me push it?"
The servants looked at each other in bewilderment.
The situation happened so suddenly that none of them noticed.
The butler was unwilling to give up: "But..."
Shang Wu said coldly, "You can't blame everything on me just because you broke Madam Zhou's jade bracelet, can you? And you, Madam, you came up here and started smashing and hitting me. I work hard for Cheng Zhou, and I can't even be angry with my fiancé when I go back and see a woman living in his house?"
Her voice suddenly became agitated, and her eyes reddened: "Fine, since Madam hates me so much, everything I do is wrong. I will never come to the Zhou family again!"
Zhou Yanci felt a pang of anxiety, released her mother, and stood up.
"A-Wu!"
Shang Wu left quickly, giving him no chance to react.
She came and went in a hurry, not even staying for ten minutes, leaving the Zhou family in a mess and ruining the play that Zhou Yanci and her mother had planned.
After sitting in the car, Shang Wu closed her eyes and let out a long sigh.
Finally, I have an outlet for my frustration.
Comfortable.
Hearing footsteps, she opened her eyes, fastened her seatbelt, and rolled down the car window as Zhou Yanci chased after her.
"If you really feel so wronged by being beaten and are going to complain to your wife, then there's nothing more to say between us. Let's both calm down for a few days."
Shang Wu stepped on the gas and sped away.
Zhou Yanci's expression was tense, and the veins on his temples were faintly visible.
It feels terrible to not be able to follow the plan.
In the past three years, Shang Wu has never lost her temper like this. She has always been able to calm down with a little coaxing.
It seems that Shang Wu really cares about being asleep.
Fortunately, her temper tantrum shows that she cares about him and can't live without him.
Zhou Yanci pondered for a moment, then took out his phone and dialed.
"Don't come to me about the dormancy thing these next couple of days."
"Yeah, it'll be cold for a few days. Let me calm things down here first."
He hung up the phone and went back to the company.
Zhou Yanci entered the president's private elevator and headed straight for the jewelry department.
I had just stepped out of the elevator when a phone call came in.
Zhou Yanci answered the call casually: "Speak."
"News came from the prison that Miss Shang went to see her brother this morning."
