Chapter 2: Butterfly Dreams in Zhouzhuang

"I'm hungry." She didn't want to say another word to this shameless man. She had to get enough rest first. She coughed twice and looked at the obviously stunned man. "I'm hungry." She raised her voice a little.

Zhou Hongzhi didn't understand what she was thinking. One second they were still discussing the matter of his wife becoming a concubine, and the next second she said she was hungry. However, considering that she had indeed been unconscious for a day and a night after being soaked in cold water, he still felt it was appropriate to show her some care. "Wait a minute, I'll ask my mother to scoop you some porridge." After saying that, he left.

Chunxiao sat up and looked at the door. She must have been blind before, actually being obsessed with and admiring such a man. How hypocritical. It was obviously for his own benefit that he asked her to compromise, but he said it in such a high-sounding way, which was simply disgusting.

Soon, Xu came in with a bowl of porridge. "Hongzhi said you were hungry. Come, mother has added more porridge for you. Drink it while it's hot."

Chunxiao didn't mind, took the bowl and started drinking the porridge.

Mrs. Xu was now smiling brightly. "Hongzhi told you that you can still stay in our Zhou family in the future. Look, you jumped into the river before anything was settled. It's not just a waste of time. You hurt yourself for nothing. You have to get better. There's a lot of work to do in the yard. My arms and legs have been busy for the past two days and they're really sore."

"Mom, you've worked so hard. Chunxiao is injured. Let her rest for a few more days." Zhou Hongzhi said, thinking he was considerate. He looked at Chunxiao drinking porridge while speaking. "When Chunxiao gets better, we'll set a date with the Xu family. You have more happy days to come."

The mother and son were talking happily, but Chunxiao felt it was particularly irritating. She drank a bowl of porridge and looked at her mother-in-law, "Mom, I've been hungry for too long. Porridge is really not helpful for me. Can you help me fry two pancakes?" In the past, this was an unreasonable request. If you dared to ask it, you would definitely be scolded. But today, the mother and son wanted to lose face, so when would they ask it?

Mrs. Xu was indeed unhappy when she heard this. "How dare you bring that up? You've already spent 200 copper coins on the doctor. It's not even a festival, so why are you eating pancakes? If you're still hungry, I'll just give you another bowl of porridge."

Zhou Hongzhi looked at the two of them and said, "Mom, if Chunxiao wants to eat some, go fry two for her." He winked at Xu and said, "Fry two more. I haven't had fried pancakes in a long time and I've been missing them."

"A bunch of prodigal sons, they don't know how expensive oil and rice are until they take charge of the household." Although she said she was unhappy, Xu still turned around and went to the kitchen. The old man said that she should be more accommodating to her daughter-in-law in the next two days, and everything will be fine after the matter is over. She just felt that Chunxiao was being hypocritical. Now that she doesn't have to be divorced and go home, she is still the same as before. There is no need to flatter and coax her. It's not okay to be so ungrateful.

Chunxiao looked at Xu who was leaving, then looked at Zhou Hongzhi who was standing aside, "Husband, wait until I'm full, I have something to tell you."

"Can't you tell me now?" Zhou Hongzhi didn't know what she was going to say. It was probably about his wife becoming a concubine, but now that the matter was settled, could she possibly want to put forward any other conditions? Thinking of this, he sat down on the edge of the bed, "Chunxiao, I know what you are worried about. I met that Miss Xu today. She is a lady from a wealthy family, well-educated and well-mannered. She won't make things difficult for you, don't worry." Thinking of that Miss Xu, Zhou Hongzhi's heart began to flutter. This pampered girl was so different from the rough-raised girls in the village. With that look and skin, he didn't expect that he could encounter such a good thing. It was true that there are beautiful women in books.

Chunxiao leaned against the head of the bed, looking at him coldly without saying a word.

Zhou Hongzhi felt very uncomfortable being looked at by her. She used to like looking at him, but that look was filled with tenderness, nothing like today. He felt that the feeling she gave him had changed a little, but he couldn't put his finger on why. "Are you still a little unhappy? I heard from Dad that your parents-in-law are here today. Look, you made such a fuss and everyone knows about it. What's the point? It wasn't a big deal in the first place. Fortunately, it's resolved now, and I have an explanation."

Chunxiao looked at him for a while, and listened to him buzzing like a mosquito in her ear. She suppressed the unhappiness in her heart and closed her eyes. She didn't want to see this family at all at the moment. If possible, she wanted to leave now.

Seeing her close her eyes, Zhou Hongzhi thought she was tired again. "Rest for a while. I'll bring you the pancakes when they're ready. I'll go help Dad chop the pig grass first."

Chunxiao sneered in her heart. How could he chop pig grass? At most he was just pretending. How could she feel that such a hypocritical and weak man was special? He must be obsessed with love.

Zhou Hongzhi came back in not long after he went out, holding a bowl with two pancakes in it. The pancakes were not big, but for them, they were a rare meal. "Come, eat them quickly. Mom just made them. They are still hot." He handed the bowl to her and ran out quickly. He was probably thinking about the remaining pancakes.

Chunxiao was not polite either. She picked up the pancake and started eating it in big mouthfuls. In the past, when she ate a pancake, she might have felt sorry for the flour that was eaten. Now she thought about how stupid she was. She was only thinking about this family and how they treated her. Her mother said that the Zhou family was ungrateful, which was absolutely true. They were ungrateful.

She ate the pancake in her hand, and her stomach finally felt full. It had been a long time since she had this feeling. This feeling probably only appeared in dreams. Thinking of this, her tears suddenly fell. Why did she become the Yan Chunxiao now? Did God treat her badly or well? Why didn't God let her become the Yan Chunxiao in her dreams? She cried for a while without knowing why, and wiped her tears with her sleeve. There was not even a tissue here. She looked at the sky which was gradually getting darker.
