Chunxiao helped him roll up the calligraphy and paintings and put them into the backpack. He put the backpack against his chest, picked up the tables and chairs, and motioned Chunxiao to follow him.
Chunxiao originally wanted to help, but seeing that he could only do it alone, she gave up.
The two walked around two blocks and stopped in an ordinary alley. The man went up and knocked on the door. A woman opened it and was a little surprised to see it was him. "Why are you back so early today?"
"There is a guest who wants to see the paintings. I'll bring him over to have a look." Then he invited her in.
Chunxiao followed him into the yard. There was a child in the yard. The house was very simply decorated and it was obvious that they lived in poverty.
"Girl, please wait for me for a moment. I'll put my things away and get you the painting."
Chunxiao gestured for him to come in, and soon the woman came over with a bowl of tea. "Sir, please have some tea."
"You're welcome."
The woman brought her another stool.
The scholar quickly came out with the scroll, "Girl, please take a look."
Chunxiao took the painting and opened it. In fact, she really couldn't tell whether the painting was real or not, but now that it had been pretended to be so, she didn't say much. She just looked at the tiger in the painting and saw that it was really well painted. If it really wasn't good, she would just hang it in her own room and enjoy it at home.
She looked at it for a while, then rolled it up. "I can't tell for now, but I'll find someone who can. Name your price."
In fact, the scholar didn't know whether the painting was real or not, but in his heart, this painting was much better than the one in the painting shop. He tremblingly stretched out a finger and said, "How do you feel about 100 taels of silver?"
The woman next to him took a deep breath and looked at Chunxiao nervously.
Chunxiao originally thought that if the painting was sold for 250 taels, he would at least offer 200 taels. Unexpectedly, he offered 100 taels. She smiled and said, "Then it's 100 taels. Although we don't know whether the painting is real or not, we will settle the payment today. If it's real, I'm lucky. If it's fake, I'm unlucky."
The woman's face showed obvious surprise, and the scholar also breathed a sigh of relief. This was very good.
Chun Xiao immediately pulled out a silver note worth one hundred taels from his purse. "This is a common exchange note. I don't have any cash with me. If you're worried it might be fake, you can go to a bank and exchange it for cash."
The two discussed it and decided that, to be on the safe side, the scholar would go to the money shop to exchange the silver, while she and the woman would stay at home to drink tea.
"Has your husband been selling calligraphy and paintings all the time? Why doesn't he find a job as an accountant in the county town?" Selling calligraphy and paintings depends purely on luck. If you are lucky enough to meet a customer, you will earn money. If you are unlucky, you will get nothing. Otherwise, this family would not be so poor.
The woman sighed, "My husband still has to study for exams. If he becomes an accountant, he won't have time to learn. Miss, you don't know that supporting a scholar is a life of worry for the family."
Chunxiao didn't know what to say after hearing her say that, so she chatted with her for a while. Soon, the scholar came back with a cloth bundle and a happy face.
"Miss, you can go now. We agreed that the money and goods are settled and we have nothing to do with each other anymore."
This was to remind her to clarify the relationship in case there was any false information. She smiled and said, "Don't worry, we have a deal." After that, she left with the painting.
As she walked on the road, she was a little confused. If this was true, it would be great, but if it was a fake, would the curator be angry? She must not let her luck turn into shit.
When I returned to Mahang, no one was home except Wangfu.
"Chunxiao, you bought the painting so quickly, is that true?"
"I don't know if it's real or not, and I don't know how to paint, but it looks quite real. I'll find out when I take it to see it tomorrow."
"Where did you buy it? How much did it cost? Didn't you say that such a good painting is hard to come by easily? I see you bought it pretty quickly."
"Of course it's hard to buy. I found it at someone's house. How much is it? Let's keep it a secret." She smiled and took the painting into the house and opened it again and spread it on the bed. She looked at this ancient painting and felt that apart from the resemblance in appearance, it might not even be realistic. She really couldn't appreciate it. In short, if it looked good, maybe people were looking at the colors, the outlines, and other professional things. She rolled up the painting again and put it away carefully.
At noon, Shuwen was the first to come back with Xiaoqi and Wuzhong.
"How was your day? Did the director give you any test?" She actually wanted to ask whether he had just accepted it or not.
"They took the test. I called them over and kept them alone for an hour. I asked them about their academic performance. Director Zhuang said their academic performance was good and up to standard."
This means that he still needs to paint. Chun Xiao smiled and said, "As long as it meets the standards, it's fine. I bought a good painting today. I'll bring it to him tomorrow, maybe it will catch his eye."
"Really, Auntie, you're so quick! Where is it? Let me see it?" Shuwen was a little surprised. It was only the whole morning. "Auntie, didn't you say that good paintings are hard to find?"
Chunxiao smiled awkwardly. She was setting limits for herself. "Don't you know that your aunt has always been lucky?" After saying that, she took the three curious people into the house to see the paintings.
"Aunt, is this painting okay?" Shuwen asked uncertainly.
"I don't know either. If it doesn't work, we can just look for it again."
Yan Qi and Wu Zhong were also looking at the paintings carefully, but they had only seen a few paintings and couldn't tell whether they were good or bad.
"Alright." Chunxiao put the painting away. "We're all amateurs. We won't understand it even if we try our best. We'll find out tomorrow when we take it over." She looked at Yanqi and Wuzhong. "Did you get bullied again when you went back yesterday?"
They both shook their heads. "He's not just targeting the two of us. If we stay away, we can at least avoid him."
