Chapter 27 Follow Auntie to Eat Meat

Chunxiao and Dahai were each carrying a backpack, and on their way back they unexpectedly met some villagers.

"Dashan, why are you going back so early?" The other party looked at the things on their backs. Yan Dashan's was covered by a straw raincoat, and Chunxiao and the others' were covered with straw mats, so nothing could be seen from the outside. "Are you going to town to buy things?"

"Uncle Shizhu, why are you out on a snowy day? We're going to town to buy some cotton. The children at home don't have any cotton clothes and they might freeze."

The other party finally understood. No wonder each person carried one cotton ball. The cotton ball took up a lot of space. "Let's go buy some things." After saying hello, they went their separate ways.

"Chunxiao, do you have any fun things to do in our village?"

"There were some before, but now they are all married and no longer live in the village. There is no one to interact with. I only know a few aunts."

"That was Uncle Shizhu just now, and Dongsheng is his son. Last time, I wanted to follow him to catch rabbits."

Chun Xiao smiled and said, "Brother, I recognize him. Although I'm not familiar with him, most people in the village still recognize him."

The two brothers told her about the interesting things that happened in the village, and chatting with her made the journey less boring.

When they got home today, it was not yet noon, but Zhou had already lit a fire for them. When they came back, she hurriedly asked them to change their shoes and warm themselves by the fire.

"Mom, today is fine. Except for my shoes, my body is fine."

"Then let's warm up. We've been enjoying the breeze all the way here, so let's warm up." Zhou took their things and put them inside. "Are you buying noodles again?"

"Yes, I have to prepare enough food for the winter. I need to buy another bag tomorrow. Mother, I have bought all the cotton and cloth. It should be enough to make cotton pants. I will send them to my sister-in-law soon. Mother, I have some good stuff under my backpack. Take a look."

"Ah? You bought so much meat and oranges, and spent money indiscriminately again." Although Zhou felt distressed, she had a smile on her face.

"Take half of it over later."

Zhou put everything away and went to the kitchen. "Did everything go well today?"

"It went well. We'll deliver another hundred pounds tomorrow." Several people sat by the fire, roasting their shoes. Chunxiao took out her silver and began to tally up. "Yesterday's 2 taels, 640 wen plus today's 10 taels, 260 wen, makes exactly 12 taels, 9 qian." She took a stick and began to count on the ground. "My eldest and second brothers each get 2 taels, 580 wen." She began to count the silver.

"How dare you two! Chunxiao bought all the things, but you didn't spend a cent and just took everything we wore and ate!" Zhou was unhappy.

"Mom, I didn't mean that."

"Mom, even if we had money, we wouldn't dare spend it like that." Dahe smiled. "You're right. We can't let her pay for it all by herself. I'll only take two taels this time, and I won't take the rest. Chunxiao, don't refuse. You chopped the wood and burned the charcoal. We're just running errands. It's really unreliable to ask for so much silver."

"Yes, Dahe is right. In fact, if you give us a few dozen coins per trip, it's already a lot. Let alone two taels."

"Brothers and sisters, don't be so fussy. Your parents live with you, and only if you're well can they be well. Okay, then I'll give each of you two taels of silver today." Chunxiao handed the silver to them and gave Zhou 130 coins. "This is for you."

"I won't refuse. If you give it to me, I'll take it." Zhou's face was full of smiles. "I think the snow is not heavy today, and the weather is not as cold as the past two days. After your shoes are dried, let's go over there together. Didn't Chunxiao buy some meat? It would be fun to eat together."

Chunxiao looked outside and saw that the charcoal would take several hours to heat up, so it didn't affect the situation. She agreed immediately, "Okay, I haven't seen the little ones for a long time, and I miss them a lot."

"They've been wanting to come over every day. Every time I go back, they ask all sorts of questions. If it weren't for the bad weather, they would have come over earlier." Yan Dashan smiled helplessly, "You brought some meat this time, so I'm afraid they'll be looking forward to seeing you even more every day from now on."

"They hope I'm well. They want to know that there is food here at my aunt's place. In the future, they can get what they want whenever they call." Chunxiao giggled as she looked at Zhou.

"You've spoiled the children." Zhou couldn't do anything about her. "From now on, their parents' words will have no effect on you."

"Mom, there's one more thing. Can you help me buy a steamer from the bamboo craftsman in the village? I want to steam some buns when I have time."

"There are only a few shops in this village that make steamed buns, so they definitely don't have any ready-made ones. Just pay them and they'll make them. It'll probably take two or three days."

"No rush, it will take two or three days. How much is the steamer? I'll give you the money."

"You're giving me money, right? A steamer doesn't cost much. Keep your money."

"Mom, put three or four of those oranges in my cupboard, and the rest in the backpack. Put the meat in there too."

"Just cut the meat and take half. I'll go get you some vegetables from the garden. I'm afraid the radish soaked in water won't be as tasty as before."

"Bring the meat with you, and eat it to your heart's content. I like to see people enjoying their meal."

Zhou couldn't persuade her, so she went back to the house to pack the things she wanted to take away.

Yan Dashan and Dahe looked at each other and laughed, "Our mother still listens to you. If it were us, we would have scolded her a long time ago."

After drying their shoes, they took their backpacks, locked the door, and returned to the village.

As soon as I entered the yard, Shuwen, who was playing in the main room, called out, "Grandpa, Mom, Dad and the others are back, and Grandma and Auntie are back too."

After they entered the house, Dahe patted Shuwen's head and said, "So many people have reported it, why didn't you shout that Second Uncle is back?"

"Grandpa, Second Uncle is back too."

Zhou laughed when she heard this. "You little devil, where are your sister and brother?"
