Seeing Lin Yue standing there blankly, staring unblinkingly in the direction Li Shuhua had left, Jiang Li felt a pang of heartache but didn't know how to comfort her.
"Yuezai... let me take you to the infirmary to treat your wound first."
Lin Yue gently shook her head and said bitterly, "No need, this little injury will heal on its own, why waste medicine?"
These were the words her mother often said to her when she was little: "Look at you, all bruised and battered again. Can't you just behave yourself? You're not acting like a girl anymore..."
Her parents divorced when she was three years old, and she lived with her mother. In her memory, they seemed to spend their time arguing. She was young and didn't understand, so she thought that all parents interacted in this way.
After starting elementary school, some classmates would always mock her, calling her a wild child without a father, and always trying to bully her. But she was never one to be bullied. If someone bullied her, she would fight back. So she often came home ragged and covered in wounds. Every time her mother saw this, she would scold her, but she would never ask what had happened. She would even tell her that everything would pass if she just endured it, whether it was being bullied or the wounds on her body, she would just endure it...
"Jiang Li, I won't be going to evening self-study later. Could you ask for leave for me? I still have some things to finish. I'll be going now."
"Hey? Yuezai! Are you sure you don't want to treat your wound? It'll be a problem if it gets infected." Watching Lin Yue's figure gradually disappear from the dormitory building, Jiang Li shouted anxiously, not knowing where she was going.
Lin Yue didn't answer, but simply raised her arm and waved as she walked away...
Jiang Li frowned anxiously, "What a mess! It must be that Gu Chaoyan's doing!!!" She stomped her foot angrily and turned back to her dormitory.
Inside the badminton hall.
The culprit, Gu Chaoyan, was sitting on the ground as if nothing had happened, watching Ji Huai play basketball with a lovesick look on her face, occasionally shouting "Go! You're amazing! You're so great!"
This prompted Ji Huai's friends to start teasing him, "Oh~ Brother Huai, just give in to that girl~"
Ji Huai just frowned and remained silent, focusing on the racket in his hands. In Gu Chaoyan's eyes, his indifferent attitude was aloofness. If he were too easy to pursue, she wouldn't even be interested.
Just as she was lost in her beautiful fantasy, she was suddenly grabbed by the collar and pulled up.
Lin Yue appeared in front of her so suddenly, catching her completely off guard. "I've been looking for you everywhere, Gu Chaoyan!"
Gu Chaoyan was stunned for a few seconds, then quickly pushed her away, "Lin Yue! Are you out of your mind?! Why are you taking your anger out on me?"
"Ha, you really do know your place. I really am here to take my anger out on you! Today we'll settle all our old and new scores!" Lin Yue said, then rushed up, grabbed her hair, and threw her over her shoulder, knocking her to the ground.
The speed was so fast that by the time Gu Chaoyan reacted, she found herself lying on the ground. A scream followed, "Ah!!! Lin Yue! I'll fight you to the death!"
She tried to get up, but Lin Yue anticipated her move and, without hesitation, sat down on her, pressing her feet firmly against her struggling hands. The pain made her scream and yell, completely losing her composure.
Lin Yue pinched her chin and said fiercely, "Did you do this? You secretly took photos of me and Song Yunzheng, posted them online, on the school forum, and then anonymously sent them to my mom's phone! Then you spread rumors and lied everywhere!"
"So what if it was me? So what if it wasn't me? Since you did such a thing, are you afraid of what others will say?"
Gu Chaoyan's infuriating words only added fuel to the fire. Lin Yue pursed her lips, her eyes seemingly spitting fire, and unconsciously increased the pressure on her hand. "After what happened last time, I didn't want to cause any more trouble, and I would always avoid you when I saw you. But no matter how I tried to avoid you, I couldn't stop you from being so shameless. You just had to walk right into the line of fire, so don't blame me!"
Seeing Lin Yue's sinister smile, Gu Chaoyan felt a chill run down her spine and stammered, "What...what do you want to do? This is a school! You can't do anything reckless!"
Lin Yue snorted coldly, "Of course I won't do anything reckless. I still have to study. I just want you to experience what it feels like to be surrounded and ridiculed, and to be talked about behind your back. This is called giving them a taste of their own medicine!"
After she finished speaking, she took out a pen from her pocket, a pen that wouldn't easily fade.
Gu Chaoyan immediately guessed what she was going to do, and struggled desperately, shouting repeatedly, "Lin Yue! If you dare to draw anything on my face, I'll never forgive you for the rest of my life! I mean it!"
"I've told you before, I, Lin Yue, am not afraid! You've caused my mother to give up on me and abandon me, so I have even less to fear. You should understand the principle that those with nothing to lose are not afraid of those with something to lose, right?"
Before she could open her mouth again, Lin Yue picked up her pen and started drawing...
None of the men in the badminton hall dared to step forward to break up the fight; they just stood by and watched. An angry woman is far more terrifying than a jackal or a tiger!
A minute later, Lin Yue looked at her masterpiece with satisfaction, tossed the pen aside with a flourish, and said, "I'm kinder than you. This pen doesn't fade easily. It's not that it won't fade, but it will come off after a few days of washing." After saying that, she got up and left, completely unaware of the stunned crowd around her.
Gu Chaoyan scrambled to her feet in a disheveled state, covered her face, and ran out.
Throughout this exhilarating revenge, Ji Huai's eyes never left Lin Yue. "Such an interesting girl, this is the first time I've ever met one." Watching her departing figure, he couldn't help but ponder how to get to know her without seeming abrupt.
...
As night fell, the autumn wind began to blow. After getting off work, Song Yunzheng stayed in his study, sending Lin Yue many WeChat messages, but receiving no reply. Bored, he started browsing the B University's campus forum, hoping to learn more about the lives, interests, and concerns of contemporary college students, and to find some common ground with Lin Yue to narrow the age gap between them.
After wandering around for a while, I noticed something was off. Why was everyone talking about Lin Yue?
Clicking on one of the posts, there were two photos and a line of text: "Lin Yue, a student from the Class of 2022 in the Department of Economics and Management, is a canary kept in a cage by a wealthy businessman, who has to flutter his wings every now and then to please his sugar daddy." The photos showed him and Lin Yue!
The entire forum was almost entirely focused on these two photos, spreading rumors that Lin Yue was being kept by a sugar daddy!
Song Yunzheng stared at the computer screen, his brows furrowed. "No wonder he hasn't been replying to messages. He's surrounded by rumors and has no way to defend himself. Doesn't he know to ask me for help? He's incredibly stupid!"
He took out his phone, found Lin Yue's number, and dialed it.
"Hey, Dr. Song, why are you calling me at this hour? Checking up on me?" Lin Yue's voice came from the other end of the phone, sounding deliberately relaxed, but if you listened carefully, you could hear a heavy nasal tone; she must have just been crying.
"Where are you? I'm coming to find you." Before she could answer, Song Yunzheng had already grabbed his car keys and left.
"Huh? What do you want from me? You'll be back again later... You'd better not come." Lin Yue said in a low voice.
"If you don't tell me, I'll go to your school and ask. Think it over." He had no choice but to resort to a half-threat.
"No, no, no, I'll tell you, I'll tell you, okay? I... I'm at a convenience store on the back street of the school."
"Don't move, wait for me!"
"I have to go back to my dorm soon."
"Try walking around!"
"..."
After hanging up the phone, Song Yunzheng stepped on the gas and headed straight for the back street of B University.
