Chapter 176 I Love You

Seeing his indifference, Lin Yue didn't seem to mind and continued to cling to him with a smile, "Just kidding, don't be angry..."

Song Yunzheng wiped the water droplets off the stove, turned around, and put his hand on her shoulder, saying sternly, "Stand still! Don't you have any bones?"

"Husband..." Her soft voice brushed against his ear.

As if struck by an electric current, the word "husband" slid into Song Yunzheng's heart, turning into strands of sweetness that rippled across his heart. His heartbeat quickened involuntarily, as if it were about to leap out of his chest and out of the dream that had troubled him for so long.

Suddenly, the heartbreaking image flashed uncontrollably through his mind again: Lin Yue lying on the ground, covered in blood; she lay lifeless on the hospital bed, drifting further and further away from him in a daze.

A splitting headache surged through him like a tidal wave. He hurriedly turned around and frantically tidied the table, as if it were the only lifeline he could grasp.

Lin Yue noticed his unusual behavior and asked anxiously, "Are you feeling unwell?"

The countertop was already spotless, but he was still diligently wiping it, trying to wipe away the fear and unease in his heart.

"No." His voice was rough and low, as if it had been sanded.

Lin Yue stared at his sharply defined profile, which appeared particularly cold and aloof under the light, yet also somewhat broken.

She said softly, "How about I go back with you?"

Upon hearing this, Song Yunzheng's hand trembled uncontrollably, almost causing him to spill the chopped vegetables on the ground.

Sensing his panic, Lin Yue immediately added softly, "Or you can tell me where it is, and I won't bother you. Just knowing where you are will put my mind at ease, okay?"

Facing the sink, Song Yunzheng sighed softly, "You go out first, I'm going to start cooking, it's too smoky in here."

"good."

Knowing about his health condition, Lin Yue spoke cautiously and carefully, considering every word carefully, afraid that she might unintentionally upset him.

He wanted his own space, so he gave it to him. He turned around and went back to the living room to sit down, his mind filled with worries. Once he had something on his mind, his hunger would quickly disappear.

A short while later, he came out carrying a steaming bowl of stir-fried noodles.

The noodles smelled delicious, and Lin Yue ate them until she was covered in sweat. She even finished off the side dishes that she usually didn't like.

After finishing her meal, she looked up and found Song Yunzheng staring intently at her. Her face flushed, and she asked with a smile, "Aren't you going to eat?"

He placed his hands on the table, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Are you full?"

"Um."

"Go take a shower, I'll clean up here."

Lin Yue immediately shook her head, but before she could speak, she heard him say, "I'm not leaving, you can wash in peace."

How could he not see the worry in those clear, bright black eyes?

Lin Yue blushed, her little secret exposed because he was too direct. She avoided his gaze and twisted the hem of her clothes with both hands.

"Okay, then... I'll go wash up."

Song Yunzheng nodded and smiled, then took the bowl and chopsticks she had finished eating and went to the kitchen.

Three minutes later...

When Lin Yue came out of the shower, her hair was still dripping wet, and Zhang San had buttoned her shirt onto Li Si's head. The shower was indeed a bit rushed.

She looked up and saw the man who had just come out of the kitchen, and a smile immediately appeared on her face.

Song Yunzheng was slightly taken aback. He first looked at her, then glanced at the clock and asked in surprise, "Did you wash them?" He washed them faster than he did the dishes.

"You've washed, huh? Doesn't it look like you have?" Lin Yue spread her arms and spun around in front of him, the fresh scent of shower gel wafting into his nostrils.

Looking at her messy hair and haphazardly buttoned shirt, Song Yunzheng couldn't help but feel a little helpless. He said softly, "Go to bed after you've washed up."

After saying that, he walked past her and into the bedroom.

Lin Yue was about to follow when she saw the old man come out carrying a pillow and a thin blanket.

"Where are you going?" she asked, puzzled.

"You should get some rest. I'll sleep in the guest room tonight," Song Yunzheng said calmly as he walked towards the guest room.

It took Lin Yue a while to react before she hurriedly followed, "No, what do you mean? You want to sleep in a separate room from me?"

"Okay, we'll sleep separately for now, and I'll go back to sleeping separately once I'm better."

"No!" she refused sharply.

Song Yunzheng seemed not to hear him, strode into the guest room, and made a move to close the door. Seeing this, Lin Yue immediately clung tightly to the doorframe, completely disregarding her image, "I don't want to! I want to sleep with you!"

"no!"

"You don't have the final say, I'm going to do it anyway!" Taking advantage of her agility, Lin Yue forced her way in and then clung to him like an octopus, refusing to let go.

"Will you listen to me?" Song Yunzheng asked helplessly.

"I can listen to other things, but whoever wants to hear this kind of talk can listen, I'm not listening!"

Song Yunzheng lowered his shoulders and looked down at her. In the dim light, her dark eyes shone like stars twinkling in the night sky.

He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing as he slowly spoke, "Because of my cold-heartedness and cruel methods, I easily destroyed half a lifetime's worth of effort, repeatedly hurting you and almost costing you your life. Heaven is so cruel; it knows my weakness, and the sins I committed are now being punished on you. I don't want this, I don't want this. Is it only by staying away from you that you can be safe? It's my fault that I caused you suffering..."

Even though she tried hard to control her emotions, her voice was still slightly choked.

Lin Yue felt a sharp pain in her heart and quickly cupped his face in her hands, his bright black eyes filled with heartache.
