Chapter 8 The sky won't fall down.
After dropping them off at home, Li Mushi turned around and went back to the company.
Li Zhan didn't come back that night.
He actually lived at school, but when Jingge came, his parents ordered him to go home until Jingge left.
With him gone, Jingge felt much more relaxed, since she always felt exhausted after an argument.
Jingge didn't eat dinner again, but he finished the bag of roasted chestnuts.
Aunt Zhang was a little worried: "Has she not eaten all day?"
Jingge downplayed the issue, saying, "There are plenty of chestnuts; they're very filling."
“No, that’s not it,” Zhang Ma coaxed. “If you don’t eat a proper meal all day and just eat chestnuts, you won’t get enough nutrition.”
Jingge pinched his own face to show her: "Look at my flesh, do I still need nutrition?"
Aunt Zhang pretended to hit her.
Jing Ge had a grin on his face.
"Would you like some sugarcane?" Aunt Zhang asked again. "I'll steam it for you, or I can make it into juice."
Mentioning sugarcane, Jingge couldn't help but think of last night: "I wonder if the murderer has been caught yet."
Aunt Zhang said to herself, "Let's juice them. Eating too many chestnuts will make them choke."
After saying that, he went to the kitchen to help her make sugarcane juice.
Jingge carefully recalled the events of last night, but the murderer's face was still shrouded in a white mist, and she couldn't remember anything about him.
"Sister—"
A voice suddenly appeared.
Caught off guard, Jing Ge jerked away from the chair, his eyes wide with terror, his arms visibly covered in goosebumps.
Li Ying was also startled by her reaction: "Sister..."
"Oh, Yingying," Jingge gasped, "what's wrong?"
Li Ying: "Sister, what's wrong?"
Jing Ge slowly breathed a sigh of relief: "It's okay, I was just a little nervous."
Li Ying: "Why are you so nervous?"
Jing Ge: "...Thinking about things, thinking about things."
“Oh, then I’ll be quieter next time,” Li Ying said. “Sister, there’s a mental arithmetic problem I can’t solve.”
Jingge asked her to bring the questions over.
They were all simple calculation problems, but Li Ying's basic knowledge was lacking, so she seemed to know each problem but not quite.
Jingge listed the key points for her and added a few more knowledge points for third and fourth grade. After finishing these, the little girl was yawning non-stop.
Jingge pinched her cheek.
She pinched him until he screamed, then grabbed his homework and fled.
Jingge pursed her lips and called out to her, "Will you sleep with your older sister again tonight?"
"..." Li Ying asked in surprise, "Sister, you didn't sleep well last night, did you?"
She wanted to continue sleeping and was too embarrassed to mention it.
Jing Ge: "It's okay. I can't sleep without you."
Li Ying ran off happily: "Then I'll go take a shower first!"
Jingge cupped her face in her hands, quietly sighed, and regretted her own lack of self-control.
My phone rang.
It was a call from my boss, Anna.
He flew into a rage as soon as the call connected, demanding to know what was going on with the price of a certain order, which was two cents more than the price offered by the supplier.
After listening, Jing Ge said, "I'll turn on the computer now and check..."
“No need,” Anna said coldly. “Come to the company immediately!”
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
Jing Ge grabbed her laptop bag, quickly called a Didi car on her phone, told Zhang Ma what she was doing, and didn't even have time to listen to Zhang Ma's suggestion to call a driver to take her there.
Sitting in the back seat of the car, Jingge opened his phone, pulled up the supply orders saved on his phone, and checked them one by one.
There are no errors.
Jingge took a picture and sent it to Anna, asking her in a questioning tone which stroke was wrong.
Anna didn't reply.
The night was pitch black.
When she left home, she was only focused on work and wanted to correct the mistakes before sending the orders to the customers. In fact, even if there were mistakes, she could just correct them on the computer. The orders and company seals sent to the customers were all electronic versions, so it was not necessary for her to be present.
But his boss was stern, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. Jing Ge, being just an intern, didn't dare say much.
But as I calmed down, an unspeakable fear of the darkness suddenly swept over me.
Jing Ge's body tensed up without him even realizing it.
Someone is running a red light ahead.
The driver honked the horn sharply.
Jing Ge was so startled that his heart skipped a beat, and his palms became sweaty.
The car weaved through the darkness and arrived at the foot of the Womei building.
Jing Ge's phone rang once.
Anna's reply: 【Mm.】
"......"
? ? ?
Um? ? ? ?
What does "um" mean?
Jingge replied to her: "Sister, I've arrived at the company."
Anna: [If you know you did nothing wrong, why did you come?]
"......"
The entire building was dark and empty.
Jingge felt inexplicably upset and sat on the steps of the front door, clutching his laptop bag.
The streetlights on both sides were dim, and a cold wind howled through the air.
When and why did she offend Anna?
She had just been scolded by the finance manager earlier that day for helping Anna clock in, and her full attendance bonus for the month was also deducted.
How can a person become a completely different person in just a few days?
Jingge, clutching his laptop bag, felt like a beast of burden being forged and tempered by society.
I don't know how long I sat there.
A warm, scorching light shone from afar.
Jingge looked up, covering his forehead with his hand.
The winter night was bitterly cold, and the air misted under the car headlights, like a carpet of light being laid out.
It was Gust during Li Mushi's time.
Seeing that she was sitting still, the car horn was pressed softly.
Jing Ge rubbed his eyes, got up, patted his bottom, and ran to the car.
The car was heated, and the air was filled with the clean, refreshing scent of soap emanating from Li Mushi.
"Uncle," Jing Ge said, looking rather listless but maintaining a polite demeanor, "what brings you here?"
Li Mushi started the car: "Aunt Zhang called me. I was just getting off work anyway, so it was on my way."
"......"
The Li family and Womei are not on the same route at all.
The car drove for a while.
Li Mushi coldly asked, "Why don't you call Li Zhan?"
Jing Ge paused for a moment, then said, "Why did you hit him?"
“He is your fiancé,” Li Mushi said solemnly. “You must learn to use him.”
Jing Ge: "".
Jing Ge: "Uncle, have I caused you any trouble? I was planning to sit for a while and then take a taxi, but I didn't expect..."
Li Mushi lowered his voice: "Jing Ge."
"......"
“Take it easy,” Li Mushi said calmly. “The sky won’t fall down.”
Jing Ge felt a lump in his throat.
A surge of bitterness rushed into his eyes, and Jingge quickly blinked hard.
The streetlights swept into the car, revealing a handsome man with a striking profile, but his serious demeanor made people hesitant to approach him.
At the red light, Li Mushi glanced at the passenger seat and asked, "Who told you to come here?"
"...boss."
"Then?"
“She said there was a mistake and asked me to come and correct it,” Jingge said, his voice slightly nasal. “So I came.”
Li Mushi: "Is she deliberately targeting you?"
Jing Ge remained silent.
The light turned green, and Li Mushi started the car, his gaze calm and knowing: "You considered her a mentor and friend, so you're heartbroken?"
"......"
“Womei’s model is based on merit,” Li Mushi stated bluntly. “Employees who have major clients can become company partners. Do you understand what that means?”
Jing Ge: "?"
Li Mushi: "Raising Gu, this model is destined to make everyone an opponent, including your boss."
At this point, his expression softened slightly: "You should be proud of yourself; she sees you as a rival."
