Madam Gu glanced at her daughter, a look of worry welling up in her heart: "You're so grown up now, and you still don't have a husband. It's not good to be so aimless... If you had children of your own, wouldn't you know all this..."
Seeing that Madam Gu seemed determined not to stop, Gu Yaoniang quickly interrupted her: "Mother! What about me? What was I like when I was little?"
Madam Gu met Gu Yaoniang's gaze and felt a surge of tenderness in her heart. She looked out into the empty space outside the door and said, "You! You were this big back then."
She stretched out her palm and gestured the length of a small baby in front of her chest, and laughed, "Such a small person, but the sound of your crying is louder than anyone else's. As long as you cry, no one in the whole yard can sleep."
When you were first born, I held you in my arms, and I didn't dare to squeeze too hard. I was afraid that I would hurt you if I wasn't careful. Back then, I thought you were just like you, all red and looking like a monkey, not pretty at all. I also wondered how the Gu family members, who all seemed so good-looking, could have such a child.
Thankfully, you've grown up...

Madam Gu spoke with certainty, as if the past events were vividly before her eyes, and she could recall them with ease. But the more Gu Yaoniang listened, the more her heart sank.
She had never experienced childbirth herself, but she had heard of it. Having just walked through the gates of hell, how could she possibly have the energy to carefully observe what her newborn daughter looked like? Many mothers only glance at their babies briefly before falling back asleep.
Madam Gu, however, seemed to be able to carry Gu Yaoniang around as if she had just given birth. It was quite strange; this experience was more like that of a devoted family member than that of a woman who had just survived a near-death experience.
Gu Yaoniang's heart continued to sink.
