Lu Zhaoming dragged his weary body back to the stronghold, taking one step at a time.
Before even entering the door, I felt a suffocating atmosphere envelop me.
"What's going on? Is everyone constipated?" he muttered to himself, quickening his pace.
As soon as I entered the room, I saw Xiao Hu kneeling by Liu Feng's bedside, looking like a wilted eggplant, his voice almost hoarse from shouting: "Brother! Brother! Wake up!"
Lu Zhaoming's heart tightened, and he rushed to the bedside in three steps.
Liu Feng's face was pale, his brows were furrowed, and his lips were cracked. He looked like a salted fish that had been drained of all moisture, lifeless.
Su Li stood to the side, a rare hint of seriousness on her alluring face. Seeing Lu Zhaoming return, she explained in a low voice, "His mental resistance is nearing its limit. If this continues, he might really..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but Lu Zhaoming understood what she meant—Liu Feng might become a perpetually vegetative state patient.
"Damn, are they playing this big?" Lu Zhaoming cursed inwardly as he walked to the bedside and looked at the unconscious Liu Feng, feeling a mix of emotions.
Back then, we went through thick and thin together, carried guns together, and bragged together. Those days were tough, but they were fucking fun.
Now that my good brother has turned out like this, it would be a lie to say I'm not heartbroken.
He gently patted Liu Feng on the shoulder, his voice low and firm: "Brother, wait for me to come back."
After saying that, he stood up, his eyes becoming sharp.
He knew this was not the time for sentimentality; time was of the essence, and he had to find Red Owl as soon as possible to resolve this trouble.
"We can't delay any longer; we must take the initiative!" Lu Zhaoming thought to himself and immediately began to act.
He activated his Eye of Judgment and began scanning his surroundings. After a full scan, he found absolutely nothing.
"Damn it! You let us down at the crucial moment?" Lu Zhaoming couldn't help but swear, but he still patiently scanned it again.
Finally, beneath the ruins northeast of the stronghold, the Eye of Judgment detected an unusual energy fluctuation.
“Interesting…” Lu Zhaoming’s lips curled up slightly, and he immediately contacted Qinglian: “Qinglian, help me analyze what’s under the ruins in the northeast direction?”
"Received." Qinglian's voice came quickly, "Analyzing... Judging from the energy fluctuations, it may be a hidden underground laboratory, most likely the core control center of the Crimson Owl."
"Bingo!" Lu Zhaoming snapped his fingers, and his plan gradually became clearer.
He immediately gathered everyone and began to devise a surprise attack plan.
"This operation may change everything, but it also means huge sacrifices." Lu Zhaoming stood in front of everyone and said solemnly, "The Red Owl's lair is definitely full of traps and guards. We must make full preparations to ensure that nothing goes wrong."
"Brother Lu, count me in!" Xiao Hu was the first to step forward, his eyes resolute. "I want to personally kill that bastard Chi Xiao and avenge my brother!"
"No, you stay!" Lu Zhaoming refused without even thinking. "You stay and take care of Liu Feng. We need you more here."
"No, Brother Lu!" Xiao Hu cried out anxiously, "My brother is in such a state, there's no use in me staying! Let me go, I promise I'll listen to you and won't do anything reckless!"
Looking at Xiao Hu's pleading eyes, Lu Zhaoming hesitated.
He knew Xiaohu's feelings; he understood Xiaohu's desire to avenge his brother.
"Alright." Lu Zhaoming finally nodded, but still added with concern, "However, you must remember to follow orders in all actions and not act on your own, understand?"
"Understood! Mission accomplished!" Little Tiger immediately saluted, an excited smile spreading across his face.
"Su Li, you stay at the base and continue researching the antidote." Lu Zhaoming turned to look at Su Li. "If I'm not mistaken, Chi Xiao definitely has a backup plan. We need to keep one in reserve."
"Don't worry, leave it to me." Su Li smiled charmingly.
On the night of the operation, the night was deep, the moon hid behind the clouds, and the entire wasteland was shrouded in darkness.
Lu Zhaoming led Xiao Hu and Lao Lang, quietly making their way towards the outskirts of Chi Xiao's base.
Old Wolf is the leader of the scavengers in the stronghold. He is very familiar with the terrain of this area, and with him leading the way, you can avoid a lot of detours.
Lu Zhaoming activated his Eye of Judgment, continuously scanning the surrounding surveillance equipment and patrol teams.
Using his Judgment Eye to analyze the enemy's surveillance frequencies, he successfully evaded multiple patrol teams and arrived at the designated location.
“It’s just ahead,” Old Wolf said, pointing to a pile of ruins. “Red Owl’s lair is right below here.”
Lu Zhaoming nodded, took a deep breath, and was about to give the order to act when suddenly he sensed something was wrong.
"Wait!" Lu Zhaoming raised his hand to stop everyone. "There's an ambush!"
As soon as he finished speaking, countless lights suddenly lit up in the ruins, and figures emerged from the darkness, surrounding Lu Zhaoming and the others.
"I knew you'd come." A cold voice came from the crowd, and a man in a black trench coat slowly walked out with a mocking smile on his face.
“Red Owl!” Lu Zhaoming narrowed his eyes. He hadn’t expected that Red Owl had been prepared all along and was waiting for them here.
"Lu Zhaoming, you haven't disappointed me after all," Chi Xiao said with a sneer. "However, do you think you can stop me with just a few of you? That's wishful thinking!"
"It's still uncertain who will emerge victorious!" Lu Zhaoming retorted without backing down, while secretly observing his surroundings, searching for a breakthrough.
