Chapter 189 Betrayal in the Mist

At Lu Zhaoming's command, everyone was on high alert and quickly sought cover.

Brother Rat's henchmen, their legs went weak, and they scrambled behind a pile of broken bricks, wishing they could bury themselves in the ground.

Lin Shuang, on the other hand, remained calm. She quickly pulled Xiao Die behind a broken cement pillar, while she herself crouched down, cautiously observing her surroundings.

However, Lu Zhaoming did not rush to avoid it.

His sharp gaze was fixed intently on Liu Feng.

Under the oppressive roar that grew louder as it approached, everyone's face was filled with fear and unease.

Only Liu Feng looked particularly nervous.

His once resolute eyes were now filled with struggle and hesitation, and his fingers trembled slightly uncontrollably, as if he was trying his best to suppress some emotion.

"Something's not right..." Alarm bells rang in Lu Zhaoming's mind.

Liu Feng was a brother who had gone through thick and thin with him, and Lu Zhaoming knew him all too well.

Liu Feng is a resilient and calm person; he would never show such a flustered expression as he does now.

Unless... he's hiding something from me.

Lu Zhaoming approached Liu Feng discreetly, simultaneously activating the scanning function of the "Doomsday Judgment System".

"Brother, have you run into any trouble lately?" Lu Zhaoming asked casually, but his tone carried a hint of probing.

Upon hearing this, Liu Feng's body jolted violently, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

He forced a smile, trying to hide his panic: "N-nothing, I'm just a little nervous."

However, his eyes flickered, and he dared not meet Lu Zhaoming's gaze.

"Still trying to hide it from me?" Lu Zhaoming sneered inwardly.

Just then, Xiao Hu suddenly rushed in from outside, shouting anxiously, "Brother, they've found us!"

These words struck Liu Feng like a bolt of lightning.

His face suddenly turned as pale as paper, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"What?!" Brother Mouse exclaimed, almost jumping out from behind the bricks.

Lin Shuang also frowned slightly and gripped the dagger in her hand tightly.

Only Lu Zhaoming remained calm.

He keenly noticed the fleeting change in Liu Feng's expression.

"It seems this guy really does have a problem," Lu Zhaoming thought to himself.

Liu Feng tried to comfort his younger brother, but his voice sounded unusually hoarse: "Xiao Hu, don't panic, it's okay."

"Nothing's wrong?!" Xiao Hu's eyes widened as he pointed at the approaching dark figures in the distance. "Brother, look, they're almost here! And you still say nothing's wrong?!"

Liu Feng's expression turned even uglier.

He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then hesitated and stopped.

Lu Zhaoming knew that now was not the time to interrogate Liu Feng.

The most urgent task is to find out the origins of the enemy before trying to solve the problem.

He quietly winked at Brother Mouse, signaling him to keep a close eye on Liu Feng, then asked, feigning calmness, "Little Tiger, tell me carefully, what exactly is going on?"

Xiao Hu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down: "I was on guard outside just now, and I saw a group of people coming from a distance, driving several modified armored vehicles at a very high speed, heading this way!"

"Chariots?" Lu Zhaoming frowned. "Who are they? What are their insignia?"

"I...I didn't see clearly." Xiao Hu shook his head. "They were all wearing helmets and black clothes, so I couldn't see their faces."

"Black clothes?" Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat. "Could it be..."

He suddenly remembered the mysterious group he had encountered in the safe zone.

They also seemed to be looking for something, and they were doing so very discreetly.

Could these people be them?

"Mr. Lu, what do we do now?" Brother Mouse approached and asked in a trembling voice.

"Don't panic," Lu Zhaoming said in a deep voice. "Let's find a place to hide and see how things go."

He quickly scanned his surroundings and finally fixed his gaze on an abandoned factory not far away.

“Let’s go there!” Lu Zhaoming said, pointing to the factory. “The terrain there is complex, easy to defend and difficult to attack, making it a good hiding place.”

Everyone immediately sprang into action and quickly ran toward the abandoned factory.

Upon entering the factory, Lu Zhaoming immediately ordered everyone to scatter and find cover.

"Brother Mouse, take a few men and stand guard at the entrance. If you notice anything amiss, immediately raise the alarm," Lu Zhaoming instructed.

"Yes, Mr. Lu." Brother Rat quickly agreed and left with a few of his men.

"Lin Shuang, you take Xiao Die and hide inside. Protect yourself," Lu Zhaoming said to Lin Shuang again.

"Don't worry." Lin Shuang nodded and led Xiao Die deeper into the factory.

After arranging everything, Lu Zhaoming walked up to Liu Feng and asked in a low voice, "Brother, what are you hiding from me?"

Upon hearing this, Liu Feng's body trembled again. He looked up at Lu Zhaoming.

"I..." He opened his mouth, but couldn't say a word.

“I know you’re being controlled.” Lu Zhaoming sighed and patted Liu Feng on the shoulder. “But you have to believe me, I will save you.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Feng's expression quickly darkened.

“It’s no use.” He shook his head and said in a hoarse voice, “They…they won’t let me go.”

"Don't say such discouraging things," Lu Zhaoming said in a deep voice. "As long as there is a glimmer of hope, we cannot give up."
