Chapter 99 A Dangerous Choice

"Let's go now!" Qinglian's voice was weak.

Su Li and Lin Shuang quickly grabbed Xiao Cao and rushed out of the passage.

Suddenly, a huge underground drainage system appeared before them.

The drainage system was filled with sewage and garbage, emitting a nauseating stench.

"It's too dirty here, Xiaocao's body can't handle it," Lin Shuang said, frowning.

"This is the only way for now. We must find an exit as soon as possible," Su Li said.

The three walked carefully through the sewage, trying to avoid the floating garbage and corpses.

Suddenly, a hand reached out from the sewage and grabbed Su Li's ankle.

"Ah—" Su Li let out a scream.

"Watch out!" Lin Shuang quickly swung her weapon at the hand.

With a "plop," the hand was severed and retracted into the sewage.

"Are you alright?" Lin Shuang asked with concern.

Su Li shook her head, her face pale.

"It's too dangerous here, we must speed up," Qinglian said.

The three quickened their pace and continued along the drainage system.

Suddenly, a series of rapid footsteps came from ahead.

"Oh no, it's an infected person!" Su Li exclaimed.

A large group of infected people were seen rushing towards them.

"We're surrounded!" Lin Shuang said in despair.

Just then, Liu Yan suddenly rushed out and stood in front of them.

"You all go quickly, leave this to me!" Liu Yan shouted loudly.

"Liu Yan, are you crazy! You're no match for them!" Su Li said anxiously.

"Stop talking nonsense and get out of here! Otherwise we'll all die here!" Liu Yan roared.

He brandished the iron bar in his hand and charged towards the infected.

"Bang bang bang..."

The iron rod slammed down on the infected people's heads, knocking them to the ground one by one.

But the number of infected people was simply too great; they surged in like a tidal wave and quickly overwhelmed Liu Yan.

"Liu Yan—" Su Li cried out in anguish.

"Hurry!" Qinglian grabbed Su Li and Lin Shuang and ran towards the exit.

They knew that Liu Yan had chosen to sacrifice himself to cover their retreat.

They couldn't let Liu Yan's sacrifice go to waste; they had to take Xiao Cao and leave this place safely.

The three of them ran as fast as they could and finally reached the outlet of the drainage system.

The exit was a ruin, with broken walls and rubble everywhere.

"We're finally out!" Lin Shuang breathed a sigh of relief and slumped to the ground.

Holding Xiaocao, Su Li looked at the unconscious Liu Yan, and tears streamed down her face.

"Liu Yan...you must hold on..." Su Li said, choking back tears.

Just when everyone thought they were temporarily safe, the system suddenly alerted: "High-energy reaction detected, danger level: extremely high!"

The system's cold notification sounded in Lu Zhaoming's ears, and his eyes instantly sharpened like an eagle's.

In the distance, a strange red light rose on the horizon, as if it were a sign of the end of the world.

He parted the weeds, stared at the red light, a slight smile playing on his lips, but his eyes revealed a mixture of determination and unease.

"Little Grass, you guys find a safe place to hide first. I'll go and deal with this troublemaker." Lu Zhaoming's voice was calm and decisive.

"Brother Lu, be careful!" Su Li said worriedly.

Lu Zhaoming smiled slightly, patted Su Li on the shoulder, and turned to walk towards the direction of the red light.

The wind whistled past his ears, as if cheering him on.

He had only one thought in his mind: the real storm had only just begun.

He took a deep breath, gripped his two pistols tightly, and strode towards the unknown danger.

“Red Owl, you’ve really messed up this time…” he muttered to himself, his voice firm and powerful.
