Chapter 31 School

Chapter 31 School

Listening to Greg's words, Dorothy scratched her head which was still a little fuzzy because she had just woken up. After thinking carefully, she found that Greg had indeed been saying that he wanted her to go to school.

Perhaps it was precisely for Dorothy's sake that Greg wrote a letter to bring his sister from the countryside to the city, as going to school was originally Dorothy's main purpose for coming to Eaglewind.

I didn’t expect that I would have to experience campus life again in this different world... If I go to school, will I still have time to study mysticism?

Thinking of this, Dorothy, who was still in her pajamas, rubbed her eyes and said with some confusion.

"Do I have to, Greg?"

I have learned enough in my previous life...I want to do something else, is that ok...

Listening to Dorothy's words, Greg couldn't help but frown. He put down some documents in his hand, then looked at Dorothy and said seriously.

"Listen, Dorothy, we are not the children of the nobility or the big bosses. We who come from the countryside must receive education if we want to have a future. Otherwise, we will have to work hard all our lives. The path that your brother and I are taking now is a very special case. Not everyone can do it. It is also very dangerous. Besides, you are still a girl, Dorothy, and it is impossible for you to be like me.

"So, Dorothy, listen to me. Go to school and study hard. It's not enough to be literate in the city. You have to have a higher level of education so that you can find a more respectable job in the future! Say goodbye to menial work forever. Believe me, this is the experience I have learned from what I have seen and heard in the past few days of working in the city."

Greg listened to Dorothy's earnest teachings in the manner of a parent. Dorothy's reaction in her heart was as she listened to Greg's words.

"Going to school...how many 'inspirations' can he give me?"

To be honest, Dorothy thought what Greg said was true, but after learning about the existence of the secret world, she, who already lacked a sense of security in her heart, always believed that exploring the mystery and gaining greater power was the most important thing.

However, he couldn't confess to Gregor, the reclusive captain, that he had been studying those forbidden things. He would probably be so scared that he would jump up and confiscate all his esoteric items, and then strictly order him to never touch such things again.

"Ohh~ Come on, come on, let's go to the school tomorrow..." Dorothy agreed with a yawn, knowing that it was impossible to refuse Gregor on this point. Looking at Dorothy's reaction, Gregor's serious expression relaxed for a moment, and then he laughed.

"Sure. We're going to buy some stationery for you at school this afternoon. By the way, Dorothy, here is the introduction of the school, and also your personal information for tomorrow's registration. This is where you can sign your name. Remember to write your full name."

Listening to Greg's words, Dorothy was slightly startled, then she walked over and sat on the sofa. After taking the document that Greg said needed to be signed, she thought about it carefully, then picked up a pen from the coffee table and signed her full name on the document.

Dorothea Meschhaus

After signing, Dorothy squinted her eyes and looked at her full name on the paper for a while, then looked at Greg beside her with some confusion and asked.

"Greg, don't you think our names are a little weird sometimes?"

"Yeah, they're long and weird, and I feel a bit out of place with the people around me, like a foreigner. For example, in the factory where I used to work, there were three Jacks, four Thomases, and I was the only one named Gregos."

As he spoke, Greg looked out the window, as if he was reminiscing about the past.

"In my prints, our names seemed to have been chosen by that cruel mother. Our father was an uneducated hunter and couldn't come up with such fancy names. And since she gave us the name, I think our last name should also be hers, because I've never seen anyone else with this last name."

"Mom..." Dorothy murmured as she listened to Greg's words. There was no information about this mother in her memory.

"Yes, I am not that old. I was only seven when she ran away. The biggest impression she left on me now is probably her hair. Yes, just like yours, Dorothy, a head of rare white hair."

"It turns out that I inherited my hair from my mother..."

While listening to Greg's words, Dorothy held a strand of her white hair in front of her eyes and murmured slowly.

In the Kingdom of Prit and even the entire continent, education and religion have always been linked together. The primary education of the entire society has always been undertaken by classes run by churches in various places. Many people, including Dorothy, learned to read and write in churches.

Due to the demand for knowledgeable talents brought about by industrialization, many countries, including Sri Lanka, began to implement the "Primary Education Law" in the past few years, which promoted the establishment of more and more private primary schools. Free compulsory primary education is now gradually becoming popular, but secondary education is still out of reach for the lower classes and still belongs to the aristocracy, the bourgeoisie and the middle class.

St. Amanda's School is located in the western suburbs of Igwyn, adjacent to the upper reaches of the Iron River that runs through the city. Its location is far away from the noisy river terminal area and the pungent industrial area. It is a rare place in Igwyn.

St. Amanda's School was donated and built by the Radiant Saint, St. Amanda, more than 300 years ago, so it was named after him. For 300 years, this school has always served the noble children of Igwinter. In recent years, due to the social changes brought about by industrialization, this school has also been undergoing changes. The children of the bourgeoisie and some wealthy citizens have begun to rely on good economic conditions to study here and receive secondary education.

This is the middle school that Greg enrolled Dorothy in.

In the morning, bright sunshine shone through the large glass windows into the clean and tidy school corridor paved with marble slabs. Dorothy, wearing a black shirt and skirt and carrying a suitcase, and Greg, wearing a neat suit, were walking in the corridor. They had just completed all the admission procedures.

"Yes, everything is ready. You can go to class in the afternoon, Dorothy. St. Amanda has a long history and a good reputation. When you graduate from here, you will definitely be able to find a job. I think lawyers, teachers, and clerks are all good. Believe me, it will be easy for you to find these jobs when you graduate from here."

Walking beside Dorothy, Greg said with an obviously happy expression, while Dorothy beside him glanced at him and spoke lightly.

"Isn't the purpose of going to middle school to enter university?"

"College?!" Greg was obviously surprised when he heard Dorothy's words, and he finally said with a smile.

"I didn't expect you to have such ambitions, Dorothy. We are originally from the countryside, but this is a university! I support you, Dorothy. If you really get into the university, we can invite the whole village to hold a party!"

"In this society... secondary education is already beyond the reach of the lower classes... they dare not even think about higher education..."

Dorothy thought as she listened to Greg's words.

At this moment, in front of them, an old school worker covered in white ash, carrying several white plaster statues, walked towards them.

Suddenly, the old janitor slipped, and the two plaster statues he was carrying fell forward. An expression of astonishment appeared on the old janitor's face.

Seeing this, Dorothy and Greg stepped forward quickly. Greg picked up two plaster statues that were broken into pieces, one in each hand, and Dorothy stepped forward to support the old man who was about to fall.

"Are you okay, sir?"

Supporting the old janitor, Dorothy said with concern. The janitor stood up, narrowed his gray eyes, and then said with a smile.

"It's okay. Thank you young man. I'm also old and my legs and feet are not very flexible."

"It's okay, old man, this is what we should do..."

Greg smiled and returned the plaster statue to the old janitor. After taking the plaster statue, the old janitor left with a smile. During this process, he turned around and looked at Dorothy and her siblings and spoke with a smile.

"The boy is very skilled, and the girl is kind-hearted... They are both the same. I wish you good luck..."

As he spoke, the janitor walked away slowly with the plaster statue in his arms. Looking at his back, Dorothy touched her chin thoughtfully.
