Chapter 108 Mother-in-Law Arrives (1/2)

A few days later, the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Lu's mother, Wen Yuzhen, had just returned from grocery shopping when she received a letter from her son. She put on her reading glasses and read it word by word, her expression shifting from calm to surprise, and then to unease.

"Twins? Oh my God!"

Wen Yuzhen slapped her thigh, her face beaming with excitement, her hand holding the letter trembling slightly. But then, her brows furrowed tightly.

"Wantang is all alone on the island, and that brat Linchuan is such a careless man, this won't do! No, I have to go right now!"

She hurriedly tossed the groceries into the kitchen, turned around, went into the room, and opened the locked camphor wood chest.

Inside the box were all the belongings she had prepared for her future grandchildren: fine cotton fabric for making clothes for the babies, soft balls of yarn, and several cans of malted milk powder and milk powder coupons, which were considered luxuries in those days.

While muttering "twins, we need to prepare two sets," she quickly stuffed things into a large bundle, as if she wanted to move the whole house over there.

The neighbor, Mrs. Wang, peeked in and asked curiously, "Sister Yuzhen, what are you doing? It looks like you're going on a long trip."

"Of course I'm going on a long trip!" Wen Yuzhen's voice was loud and clear, her face beaming with pride and joy. "My son wrote to me, my daughter-in-law is pregnant with twins! I have to hurry to the island to take care of her during her postpartum period!"

"Wow! Twins! You're so lucky!"

When Mr. Lu returned from fishing, he saw his wife packing her luggage.

"Daughter-in-law, are we going to an island?" Mr. Lu asked, quickly putting down what he was holding.

The couple had previously discussed that once their daughter-in-law was more pregnant, she would go to the island to take care of her and help her during her postpartum period.

Therefore, when he saw her packing her things, Mr. Lu understood.

"Yes, my daughter-in-law's belly is getting bigger and bigger, I have to go and take care of her," Wen Yuzhen said happily.

"That's right, I'll go buy you a ticket right away!" Father Lu put down his fishing rod and patted the mud off his clothes. "But Yuzhen, when you get to the island, you'll have to take good care of our daughter-in-law."

Wen Yuzhen was stuffing a child's cotton-padded coat into a bundle without looking up: "Do you even need to say it? Even if you didn't say it, I would have done it anyway. The child in her belly is the precious gem of our Lu family!"

Mr. Lu paced back and forth in the room, still somewhat uneasy: "I'm worried about the relationship between you and your mother-in-law..."

"What are you afraid of?" Wen Yuzhen stopped what she was doing, glared at him, and said, "I'm not that kind of shrewish mother-in-law."

“That’s true, but there’s always a generation gap between the two generations, and their lifestyles are different.” Mr. Lu rubbed his hands together. “If you really encounter any disagreements, you have to be more accommodating and tolerant. Wan Tang is a kind-hearted girl, and you two can get along.”

Wen Yuzhen rolled her eyes: "Look at what you're saying, as if I'm looking for trouble. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

She recalled the first time she met Su Wantang, how timid yet polite the girl was, and her heart melted. Such a wonderful daughter-in-law—she couldn't bear to make things difficult for her.

When Lu's father heard his daughter-in-law say that, he felt relieved: "Alright, I'll go buy some local specialties and then buy you a train ticket."

"Our local pickled vegetables and cured meat are things Wan Tang loves to eat," Mr. Lu said, counting on his fingers. "And brown sugar and black sesame paste are also good for pregnant women."

Wen Yuzhen nodded: "You've thought of everything. Oh, and buy some good tea leaves too. Lin Chuan loves to drink tea."

Mr. Lu responded and hurriedly left the house.

Wen Yuzhen continued packing, her excitement growing with each task. Twins! This was an incredible joy! She had never seen twins before.
