Just then, Aunt Wang from next door poked her head in again: "Sister Yuzhen, do you think it's cold on that island? Should we bring some warm clothes?"
"It shouldn't be cold, but we should still bring it, just in case." Wen Yuzhen patted her forehead.
She rummaged through drawers and cupboards, finding even the thickest cotton-padded coats in the house. Then, remembering something, she ran to the kitchen and grabbed a large bag of red dates.
"These red dates replenish blood, which is good for postpartum women," she muttered to herself. "And walnuts are good for the brain, making the baby smarter."
Wang's mother, watching from the side, shook her head and said, "You're moving half the house away!"
“Of course, my grandchildren need everything, and they can’t be missing a single thing,” Wen Yuzhen said confidently.
As evening fell, Mr. Lu returned carrying large and small bags: pickled vegetables, cured meat, tea leaves, brown sugar, and several cans of malted milk powder.
“This malted milk powder is expensive; a single can costs several yuan.” Mr. Lu carefully put it away. “But it’s worth it for our grandson and granddaughter.”
Wen Yuzhen took it and looked at it, then nodded in satisfaction: "I trust you to handle things. What about the train tickets?"
"It's at 2 PM tomorrow, a direct train." Mr. Lu took out the ticket. "I've calculated it, it'll take three days and two nights to get there."
The couple worked until midnight before finally packing everything up. Looking at the pile of bundles on the floor, Wen Yuzhen wiped her sweat and said, "That's about it."
Early the next morning, Mr. Lu got up to cook porridge and fry a few eggs: "Eat this if you get hungry on the way."
Wen Yuzhen put on her thickest cotton-padded coat, wrapped a headscarf around her head, and was wrapped up like a rice dumpling: "Let's go, don't miss the train."
Upon arriving at the train station, Mr. Lu helped carry the luggage onto the train and gave him a long list of instructions and advice.
"Remember, once you arrive, send a telegram home to let them know you've arrived safely."
"Okay, okay," Wen Yuzhen waved her hand impatiently.
"Also, don't argue with Wan Tang. That child has a good temper, and don't take advantage of being an elder..."
"Why are you more long-winded than an old woman!" Wen Yuzhen glared at him. "I know what I'm doing."
The train whistle blew, and Mr. Lu quickly got off the train: "I'm off then, be careful on the road!"
"Hey!" Wen Yuzhen suddenly remembered something and called out from the window, "Remember to water the flowers at home! And don't forget to feed the old hen!"
Mr. Lu waved from the platform: "I know! Take care too!"
The train slowly started moving, and Wen Yuzhen watched her husband's figure grow smaller and smaller, her heart filled with mixed emotions. In all their years of marriage, this was the first time they had been separated for so long.
But the thought of soon seeing her son and daughter-in-law, as well as the two little babies in her belly, made her excited again.
"Twins, Grandma's here!" she murmured to herself, a kind smile spreading across her face.
The train sped along the tracks, carrying a mother's overflowing love for her family, heading towards a distant island.
...
Meanwhile, on the island, Su Wantang was leaning against the headboard reading a book when she suddenly felt a tightening in her stomach. She frowned and put down her book.
"What's wrong?" Lu Linchuan immediately noticed her unusual behavior.
"It's nothing, just a little tight," Su Wantang said, rubbing her stomach. "It's probably because I've been sitting for too long."
Lu Linchuan walked over and gently stroked her abdomen with his large hand: "Should we call a doctor?"
"No need, it's just Braxton Hicks contractions, it's written in the book." Su Wantang smiled. "When is Mom arriving?"
"The day after tomorrow." Lu Linchuan calculated the time. "Perfect timing, once she arrives you won't have to be alone anymore."
Su Wantang nodded, feeling both expectant and nervous. Although her mother-in-law was a very kind person, she was still a little apprehensive about living together for several months. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
