The room was dimly lit, with only a small bedside lamp on. In the light and shadow, the man's focused profile was clearly defined, and there was even a fine sheen of sweat on his forehead. In his deep eyes, there was not a trace of lust, only a fullness of tenderness and cherishing that almost overflowed.
Su Wantang's heart melted instantly.
This man, who is the upright and authoritative Commander Lu in public, would clumsily and tenderly do this kind of thing for her when he came home.
She suddenly felt that the resentment and helplessness that had been building up in her heart because of Liu Fen's experience were being soothed little by little by the warmth of his palm.
"Are you feeling better?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
"Mmm," she responded softly, her voice carrying a hint of innocent charm that she herself was unaware of.
His hands stopped moving, but he didn't move them away, just held them loosely. After a while, he said in a deep voice, "Don't let Mom make you those soups tomorrow. You have too much breast milk, and your body can't handle it. Our family doesn't lack money for formula. The baby's food can't be exchanged for your health."
Simple and straightforward words warmed Su Wantang's heart more than any sweet talk.
She looked up at his eyes, which were so close to hers and filled with concern, and leaned in to kiss his slightly cool lips.
This kiss was filled with gratitude, dependence, and a hint of arousal from his touch.
Lu Linchuan's body stiffened, then he took the initiative, using his large hand, which had just relieved her pain, to hold the back of her head and deepen the kiss.
The indoor temperature rose sharply at that moment.
It was no longer clear whether what had been broken up was her illness or his restraint.
He picked her up and gently placed her on the bed. He leaned down and whispered a promise in her ear in a husky voice filled with desire.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." He kissed her earlobe, each word spoken with utmost solemnity, "I feel your pain, your suffering."
That night, the wind and rain were kept out of the window, and the tender warmth inside was enough to ward off all the coldness of the world.
Su Wantang didn't know when she fell asleep, only that the last thing she saw was Lu Linchuan's eyes, which were deeper than the night and gentler than the ocean.
However, this tranquility did not last long.
As dawn broke and the first hint of light appeared in the east, Su Wantang got up, washed up, and opened the door, only to find a person standing outside.
A woman who was soaking wet, with water dripping from her hair, her lips frozen purple, and who looked as if she had been pulled out of the water.
When Lu Linchuan, a man accustomed to the ups and downs of life, saw that pale, distraught face, even his pupils contracted sharply.
