"So it was Li Xiumei who was behind this!"
"So it turns out she's your savior, and you treat her like an enemy, even ruining her reputation! How could Li Xiumei do this?!"
"Besides, what's wrong with my niece staying at our house for a few days? How can she be so intolerant of her?"
"Li Xiumei is such a petty person!"
"Marrying a woman like this will only bring unrest to the household! This woman is completely unworthy of Comrade Qin!"
"Yes! Comrade Qin is a very capable and upright man. How could he marry such a lowly woman!"
Li Xiumei's face flushed red and then turned pale; she wished she could disappear into a crack in the ground.
Qin Tian dragged her home, slammed the door shut, and pointed at her nose, yelling, "You've completely disgraced me! I'm warning you, Li Xiumei, you better behave yourself from now on. If you dare to cause any more trouble, we're getting a divorce!"
"I understand," Li Xiumei said, her head bowed and her voice low.
Qin Tian looked at Su Wantang with guilt, "Wantang, it's all my fault. It's my fault that you've suffered so much..."
“I’ve already given her a good scolding, and she won’t dare to do it again.”
"Please don't get angry about this. You're pregnant, so don't hurt the baby."
"Mm." Su Wantang nodded, feeling much relieved.
Li Xiumei is no good, but her uncle is reasonable.
However, Li Xiumei was simply not a good match for her uncle.
Li Xiumei was severely criticized and her reputation was completely ruined. Looking at Su Wantang, who was being carefully protected by Lu Linchuan, the resentment in her eyes was almost tangible.
She won't let this go so easily.
In the evening, Su Wantang was reading a book slowly under the lamp. After reading for a while, she put the book down and said, "Linchuan, I want to eat something sour."
"Wife, wait for me." Lu Linchuan got up, dressed, and walked towards the door.
Lu Linchuan noticed a wild hawthorn tree outside the residential area. The tree was laden with hawthorns, but no one had picked them.
Under the moonlight, the man's tall figure walked to the hawthorn tree. He looked up at it, then used his arms to climb up in a few strides.
The night was deep, yet his movements were steady. Carefully, he picked only the largest, reddest fruits, one by one, gently placing them into his pocket. Those hands that held guns and engaged in combat on the training field were now picking sour fruits for her in the cold wind, his movements filled with indescribable tenderness.
A moment later, Lu Linchuan jumped down from the tree, his pockets bulging. He went inside, didn't turn on the lights, but used the moonlight to pour the hawthorns onto the table, then quietly fetched water and carefully washed them one by one.
He carefully cut the washed hawthorns in half with a knife and patiently removed the pits. Only after doing this did he light the kerosene lamp on the table. In the dim light, he took out a small pot, put in the hawthorns, and then found a packet of rock sugar, breaking off a few pieces and dropping them in.
The water in the pot slowly boiled, bubbling gently. A sweet and sour aroma quickly filled the entire small house.
She got out of bed and walked to his side.
Lu Linchuan turned around and saw that she was only wearing a thin nightgown, so he immediately took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. "Why are you up? Did I wake you?"
Su Wantang shook her head, staring at him intently. "You came to pick hawthorns for me?"
Lu Linchuan smiled and stirred the softened red fruit flesh in the pot with a spoon. "If you like it, I'll pick some for you. I just don't know if the hawthorn soup will suit your taste."
The soup was quickly cooked, a vibrant red color, and served in a white porcelain bowl—it looked absolutely beautiful. Lu Linchuan scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down until it was no longer too hot, and then offered it to Su Wantang's lips.
