Chapter 438 Honeymoon Compensation Plan
At the dinner table, the two children chattered around Gu Beichen, talking about how the chickens on the farm were laying eggs and how their mother had built a big factory.
Gu Beichen listened patiently, occasionally serving Su Yue food. The warm yellow light in the room made the family feel especially cozy.
late at night.
The children were finally exhausted from all the commotion, so Zhang Huilan took them to a side room to sleep.
The lights in the main room were still on. Su Yue leaned against the headboard, holding a stack of planning diagrams for a pharmaceutical factory.
Gu Beichen emerged from the bathroom, carrying a faint scent of soap. He was wearing only a sailor shirt, and his muscles appeared extremely muscular under the light.
He walked to the bedside and sat down, casually picking up the blueprints from Su Yue's hand and looking at them.
"Code name 'Hunter'?"
Su Yue nodded, sat up, and pointed to the core workshop on the blueprint.
"This is specially prepared for bacteriophages, and I want to make it the most advanced biopharmaceutical base in all of Asia."
Gu Beichen put down the blueprints and reached out to hold Su Yue's hand.
His calloused palms rubbed against Su Yue's delicate skin, sending waves of tingling sensation through her.
"During the past six months in the capital, the Qin family has caused us no shortage of trouble."
Gu Beichen lowered his voice and began to recount the thrilling events hidden behind the glory.
"Lin Ruolan's father used his connections in the garrison to try and force my cousin to be transferred back, and also to suppress my promotion application."
Su Yue stopped organizing the documents and turned to look at him.
"What about Qin Zheng?"
"Qin Zheng was slightly injured; he was ambushed by the Lin family during the exercise."
Gu Beichen's fingers gently caressed Su Yue's palm.
"I led my men and stormed into their command post, tearing up the poisoned report in front of everyone. Only after General Qin personally intervened was the matter finally brought to a close."
Su Yue snorted coldly, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in her eyes.
"The Lin family still hasn't learned their lesson."
"You don't need to worry anymore."
Gu Beichen pulled Su Yue into his arms and rested his chin on the top of her head.
"I am now the deputy chief of staff, in charge of the military region's logistics and dispatch. Your pharmaceutical factory will be a key support unit for the military region from now on."
Su Yue leaned against his broad chest, listening to his strong heartbeat.
"I haven't been idle either."
Su Yue pulled a document out from under her pillow.
"The five million from the Lin family in Gangcheng has arrived, and the Phase II clinical trial of the bacteriophage has been a great success. The province has allocated all two hundred acres of wasteland to us, and the foundation for the pharmaceutical factory has already been laid."
Gu Beichen took the document and looked at the dense experimental data on it.
Although he didn't understand medicine, he knew what these data meant.
That is a powerful tool that can change the landscape of the national pharmaceutical industry.
"Su Yue, you are braver than I imagined."
Gu Beichen lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
Su Yue wrapped her arms around his waist, her fingertips sinking into the muscles of his back.
"Beichen, I feel like we're fighting side by side right now. You're guarding the coast at the front, and I'm guarding health at the rear."
Gu Beichen turned off the bedside lamp, and the room was instantly plunged into a gentle darkness.
"Not only now, but every day from now on, I will protect your back."
The morning sea breeze, carrying moisture, rattled against the windowpanes.
Su Yue rolled over, reached to her side, and found nothing.
The warmth from the blankets had long since dissipated.
She suddenly opened her eyes and stared blankly at the old-fashioned pull-cord light bulb above her head for a few seconds.
Gu Beichen had only been back for two days, so he should be catching up on sleep or reporting to the military region right now.
A very low murmur came from the courtyard.
"Shh! Keep your voice down, don't wake Mom." Gu Ping'an's voice carried a hint of nervousness, like someone who had done something wrong.
"Brother, this is so heavy..." Gu Ningjing's childish complaint was cut short by a large hand.
Su Yue threw off the covers, walked barefoot to the window, and lifted a corner of the curtain with her fingers.
In the courtyard, Gu Beichen, wearing a faded military green vest, was squatting next to the jeep.
He held a rag in his hand and wiped the already gleaming military vehicle until it was so shiny you could see your reflection in it.
The two little ones, like two mice stealing oil, were stuffing things into the trunk with great effort.
A box of military canned goods, two marching blankets, and even the bamboo box that Su Yue usually used to store herbs.
Is this a sign that someone is running away from home?
Su Yue put on her coat and pushed open the door.
"Gu Beichen, are you going to move out of the house?"
The three figures in the courtyard froze simultaneously.
The tin biscuit box in Gu Ping'an's hand crashed to the ground with a loud bang.
Startled, Gu Ningjing shrank back and hid behind Gu Beichen, revealing only her big, dark eyes.
Gu Beichen remained calm.
He slowly stood up, threw the rag on the hood of the car, and turned to look at Su Yue.
"woke up?"
"Explain this," Su Yue said, pointing to the nearly full trunk. "Are you planning to take the kids on a field training trip?"
Gu Beichen didn't say anything, but just gave the two children a wink.
Gu Ping'an immediately stood at attention, put his hands behind his back, and shouted loudly, "Reporting, sir! This is a military secret! No comment!"
After saying that, she pulled Gu Ningjing and ran to the kitchen: "Grandma! Mom's awake! Time to eat!"
Su Yue was so angry she laughed.
This father and son are quite quick at coordinating their stories.
The atmosphere at the breakfast table became even more bizarre.
Zhang Huilan came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of porridge, her smile so wide it could trap a fly.
She kept putting salted duck eggs into Su Yue's bowl, saying as she did so, "Eat more, on the way... cough, the factory has been busy these past few days, you need to replenish your energy."
Su Yue took a bite of the oily duck egg yolk and glanced at the faces of the people at the table.
Gu Beichen lowered his head and drank his porridge, his movements as precise as if he were carrying out a mission.
The two children buried themselves in their food, not even bothering to grab the fried dough sticks they usually loved to fight over.
"Mom, are you hiding something from me?" Su Yue put down her chopsticks.
"No way!" Zhang Huilan slapped her thigh, her acting exaggerated. "She's just happy that Beichen just came back! Right, Beichen?"
Gu Beichen finished the last mouthful of porridge, put down the bowl, and took out a handkerchief to wipe his mouth.
"Su Yue, come inside with me."
Su Yue raised an eyebrow.
So you confessed already?
She followed Gu Beichen into the bedroom. Gu Beichen closed the door behind him and locked it with a click.
The room was dimly lit.
Gu Beichen walked to his desk, opened a drawer, and took out a kraft paper envelope.
The envelope was thick and the edges were worn, indicating that he had been holding it for a long time.
"What is this?" Su Yue took the envelope.
"This is your disciplinary notice." Gu Beichen leaned against the edge of the table, arms crossed, his resolute face revealing no emotion. "Given that Comrade Su Yue has long neglected her family and focused solely on work, the organization has decided to impose a severe punishment on her."
Su Yue was stunned for a moment.
Disciplinary action?
She opened the envelope and pulled out a piece of stiff cardboard.
It's neither an official document nor a letter of self-criticism.
