Brother Yu returned relatively early. He was originally going to take his annual leave, but something came up and he couldn't leave.
"Big brother, are you done with work?" Yu Jun greeted his older brother as he entered carrying a briefcase.
"I'm done with work, I can take a day off tomorrow. What about Yu Yin and the others?"
Brother Yu didn't see Yu Yin and Bai Xiaoyu; he wondered where they were.
"I'm in the kitchen with my sister-in-law preparing food. She ordered food from a restaurant, and it just arrived." Lu Shurui also greeted her brother-in-law; it had been several years since they last met.
"How many more years until Dr. Shu Rui graduates?" Brother Yu envied Lu Shu Rui, who could continue his studies, while he couldn't, and dared not easily try to change.
"There are still two years left." Dr. Lu Shurui's program is three years long, and he has only completed one year.
The two academics were discussing professional knowledge, which Yu Jun couldn't understand, so he got up and left.
"Why did you come out? I heard my older brother came back?"
Bai Xiaoyu was quite puzzled as to why he wasn't chatting with his older brother and the others.
"Sigh, my brother and brother-in-law were talking about motivation and other things, but I couldn't understand a word of it. I'd rather chat with you guys."
Yu Jun felt that his education level was not low and he had even attended a military academy, so why did he feel like an illiterate person in front of Lu Shurui?
"Brother, we don't understand what they're saying, so there's no need to listen. Just listen to what we can understand."
Yu Yin didn't understand their professional knowledge either, but what did it matter? She wasn't going to pursue academic studies. She didn't like socializing, and she hadn't joined Lu Shurui's social circle. There was no need; pretending to know what you don't is too tiring.
Before long, dinner was laid out, with the children at one table and the adults at another.
"Dinner's ready!" Aunt Yu's shout startled all the children out—more than a dozen of them, big and small, outnumbering the adults.
Yu Anze is the oldest, followed by Anna, and so on down the list. Kuai Kuai and Man Man are the youngest, but actually there's not much difference between them.
The restaurant that Sister-in-law Yu booked is quite famous. The chef used to be a celebrity in the culinary world, but now he runs his own restaurant. He only cooks a few tables a day, and you have to book in advance.
"Sweet and sour pork, stir-fried prawns with scallions, stew, cold noodles..." These are all distinctive dishes, and Yu Yin hasn't eaten them in a long time, so she misses them very much.
With delicious food, nothing else matters; apart from the sound of chewing, no other sounds can be heard.
By the time everyone put down their chopsticks, they were all stuffed, and the plates on the table were empty.
"Mom, I like these dishes. I'll ask Grandpa Hu to make them when we get back!" She ate her fill and, before she had even digested the food, she was already making plans for the rest of the meal.
"You're already thinking about the future after you've just finished this meal. You're such a little foodie," Yu Yin teased her youngest son before turning her gaze to her older brother.
"Yinyin, why are you looking at me like that?" Yu Jun felt a little uncomfortable being stared at, as if Yinyin knew something.
"Brother, we're twins, so we should have some kind of telepathic connection. I sensed the slight anger you had the moment you walked in. And since you came from the hospital, I know something must have happened, and it must be something bad. Now that we've finished eating, tell me, what is it?"
Yu Yin spoke with certainty, and Yu Jun could no longer keep it a secret; he would find out sooner or later.
"Our mother's condition, she and Yu Qing didn't tell the truth. It's not nephritis, it's uremia."
"What? It's not nephritis, it's uremia? Then why won't they tell the truth? What do they mean by this?"
Sister-in-law Yu got so excited that she couldn't control her voice, which startled everyone.
"There's nothing strange about it. They're afraid I won't come if I find out the truth. If I don't come, who will they get a kidney transplant from?" Yu Yin understood what was going on as soon as she heard about uremia. They were after her kidney; they had a pretty good idea.
"What? Your kidney? Are you suggesting I get a kidney transplant?" Lu Shurui asked nervously. A kidney transplant? Is the current medical technology capable of that? He'd never heard of kidney transplants before!
“Mom…” An’an and the others heard it and couldn’t help but call out.
"What kidney transplant? It's not your turn anyway."
Brother Yu spoke very firmly, saying that they were also his children, so why were they targeting Yin Yin?
"Are you going to get a kidney transplant too? If so, you'll have to leave the army!" Bai Xiaoyu's face was full of resistance. Her husband, Yu Jun, had a bright future ahead of him and couldn't just let it go to waste. What would all his previous life-and-death sacrifices have amounted to?
"Don't worry, the tests haven't been done yet. To get a kidney transplant, you have to meet the requirements." Yu Jun was too angry today and forgot to ask the doctor about the specifics.
"Yinyin, don't agree, understand? This has nothing to do with you. No one can force you to get a kidney transplant, not even yourself. I won't agree." Yu Jun stared at Yu Yin, trying to get her to agree. His sister was living a happy life, and no one had the right to take that away from her.
"Brother, you're overthinking it. Do you think I'd rush over and say, 'Fine, I'll give you my kidney, consider it repayment for giving birth to me, and we'll be even from now on.' I won't do that. Was I the one who wanted to be born?"
"It wasn't my fault they asked me to give birth to them, and it's not my fault the baby is unhealthy; shouldn't it be their fault? Because of my slow reaction time, she dislikes me and wishes I would just die on the spot to avoid embarrassing them. I was forced into all of this, so now they want me to donate a kidney? Dream on!"
Yu Yin was calm. She was no longer bound by maternal love; she had long since let go of the past.
After Yu Yin finished speaking, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They were afraid that Yu Yin might act impulsively and recklessly try to repay any debt of gratitude or the kindness of being born and raised.
"It's good that you can figure it out. Tomorrow we'll go to the hospital and ask the doctor what exactly happened. We can't just listen to Yu Qing's side of the story. I feel like her personality is getting weirder and weirder. It feels like she has a lot of prejudice against Yin Yin and doesn't want her to have a good life." Yu Jun had this feeling, and it was very strong.
"She herself was unhappy, so she didn't want others to be happy, especially Yu Yin. In Yu Qing's mind, she was the most pampered girl in the Yu family. She was outstanding since childhood, beautiful, graduated from university, and married into a good family. That was the pinnacle of her life."
However, with the policy changes, many people went into business, and her advantages became less obvious, which made her feel resentful. Especially since Yu Yin was doing very well in business, and she heard some things about it from Yu Kang, she felt extremely unbalanced.
Sister-in-law Yu knows Yu Qing too well; she's a spoiled brat.
"You're talking nonsense. We're all brothers and sisters. Who wouldn't want their sister to have a good life?"
Brother Yu felt that his wife had gone a bit too far; it wasn't that bad.
“I believe my sister-in-law. Yu Qing is that kind of person. When we were little, someone praised me for being hardworking and diligent, and she cried and threatened to stop me from doing any work.” Yu Yin thought back to her childhood and realized how silly she was. Because of Yu Qing’s words, she didn’t do any work for two days and was scolded by her mother, who said that she was only good for doing chores and had even learned to be lazy.
She didn't tell her brother about these things, afraid that he would argue with Yu's mother again and might get a beating.
"Alright, let's talk about it tomorrow. I'm tired and want to go back to the hotel to sleep. Hey buddy, are you going to sleep here or come with us to the hotel?"
Yu Jun had some things to discuss with his older brother that evening, so he didn't go to the hotel. Yu Yin and her family of six went home by themselves; they were too tired, so they took a bath and got some sleep before continuing.
