Chapter 18 Kill them all
Autumn is here, and the harvest will be in a month.
The land was covered in golden yellow, but this golden hue was swallowed up by the fire. A fiery dragon, bright red, swept in from all directions, determined to burn the land to ashes.
The farmers' cries were carried on the wind; they cried until they were hoarse, but they couldn't utter a single complete sentence.
That was not only his harvest this year, but also the hope for his whole family to survive.
This one fire must burn everything to the ground.
Guan Zhiwei believed that Grand Commandant Gao's desire to move the capital stemmed from a quarrel with the emperor and powerful families. In a fit of anger, he wanted to drive everyone to his own territory, demonstrating that even a powerful dragon cannot suppress a local snake.
But that's not how he did it.
He allowed his soldiers to begin burning, killing, and looting, destroying the wheat harvest, cutting off people's food supplies, and then leaving them to their deaths, leaving them unable to survive there.
There were cries and laughter from all directions.
Guan Zhiwei had witnessed many soldiers breaking into farmhouses along her journey.
If they dare to resist, the whole family will be killed; if they do not resist, their wives and daughters will be raped, and all the valuables in the house will be taken away.
So she went on her way, killing anyone she heard laughing.
There are too many to kill.
The sounds of wind, horses neighing, and horns echoed from all directions, making Guan Zhiwei's ears hurt.
She tried her best to listen; all she could hear were cries and pleas for help.
It's so noisy, she can't find Daya.
Turning the corner, she saw Yao Daya quietly in the glow of the blazing fire.
She's so quiet.
It was as if a blanket of snow had buried Guan Zhiwei.
If I hadn't run away to kill people and had stayed in the mourning hall, wouldn't those beasts have been unable to abduct Yao Daya?
The fallen leaves gathered and were blown away again. Guan Zhiwei was startled awake from her daze. She rushed over, picked up the quiet Yao Daya, and tried to gather her clothes up, but the clothes were in tatters and could not cover the teeth marks on her skin.
She wants revenge. But who will she seek revenge on?
The weather was bitterly cold, and frost covered the ground.
The moonlight cast a long shadow.
The soldiers were drinking and making merry. They stormed into the tavern, killed the owner who tried to stop them, and drank heartily.
Suddenly, they saw a figure on the side of the street.
It was a disheveled girl with blood on her cheeks, a slender figure, who carried a scantily clad girl in her arms as she walked step by step.
“We’re getting bored with drinking.” The soldiers chuckled, then surrounded them in twos and threes, letting out a sinister grin.
She seemed unaware of what she was about to face, and with her somewhat dazed eyes, she said, "Sir, my sister is asleep. I'm taking her home, but I can't find my way. Could you please give me directions?"
"Why go home? Come into my arms." The soldier pulled at her arm.
Everyone was amused by her and burst into joyful laughter.
...
Guan Zhiwei held Yao Daya in her arms, stepping into a pool of blood that was sticky and sticky.
She continued to wander the streets and alleys like a lost soul.
A woman's shrill scream echoed from the alley.
The soldiers had all taken off their pants, and some were already enjoying themselves. They were lining up politely.
The woman's leg was broken, with the bone protruding from the skin for convenience.
"Sirs, I'm lost. Could you please show me the way home?"
Guan Zhiwei was like a lost lamb.
They stumbled into the jaws of wolves.
“Bring her over to play together, the one in her arms looks dead.”
"If it dies, just throw it aside."
...
Guan Zhiwei was covered in blood and smelled terrible. She found a place to wash her face and took off her clothes, leaving her only wearing a camisole.
She carried Daya and continued walking.
When he was in high spirits, he would even hum a soft tune.
They thought she had gone mad.
Even a madman can play with it.
"Come here, you idiot, I have some meat. Let me touch it a couple of times, and I'll give you some meat to eat." The beast laughed and waved the meat in his hand.
Guan Zhiwei smiled sweetly: "Really? Then I'm coming."
...
As she walked home, every soldier who rushed at her could be the murderer who raped Yao Daya.
She wanted to pave a bloody road for Yao Daya to return home, and on the seventh day after her death, Daya would walk this road home.
Weaving through the alleys, at the end there were twenty or thirty soldiers on horseback. We had to kill them all at once, to prevent them from escaping and reporting back.
She held Daya tightly and walked over unsteadily.
"Sir, I can't find my way home. Could you please give me directions?"
The girl, with her hair disheveled and her outer garment gone, shivered slightly as the icy wind lashed her delicate skin.
Her eyes were glazed over, and she was tightly clutching a cold corpse in her arms. The female corpse was also disheveled.
Knowing that you are far away, I feel very heavy-hearted.
This was the home he was supposed to protect, yet it was so ravaged, all because of orders from his superiors.
There was nothing he could do but use his own private treasury to reward the soldiers and satisfy their desires, so that they wouldn't turn into beasts.
He took off the cloak that was originally on top of the armor and covered Guan Zhiwei with it.
"Zheng Shiren and He Shitou, you two escort her home safely. If you harbor any evil intentions, I will behead you both!"
"Yes, Young General."
Guan Zhiwei's face was covered by a cloak. By the time she shook her head and threw off the cloak, the other party had already gathered their troops and turned to leave.
The two soldiers who were left behind turned their heads away from Guan Zhiwei. Zheng Shiren said, "Your sister is dead. Put her down. We'll take you home to find your family and then come back to collect her body."
Guan Zhiwei shook her head: "I'm very strong."
He Shitou asked, "Where do you live? We'll take you home."
Guan Zhiwei wrapped Daya in her cloak, held her tightly, and easily lifted her up: "No need, I can walk back myself."
"That won't do, we have to follow military orders."
"The journey was fraught with danger; you're lucky you even managed to meet our general."
Guan Zhiwei gave a slight smile. "It's very lucky."
"It's all those aristocratic families' fault. They look down on us martial artists and are always going against the Grand Commandant. We've done meritorious service, but they refuse to reward us," He Shitou complained.
Looking at the mess in the city, Zheng Shiren sighed and said, "Go home. Don't be too sad. Life has to go on."
This home is just a stone's throw away.
But she didn't know how to face Sister Ning.
How can I see the disappointment in her eyes?
Guan Zhiwei returned to the blacksmith shop. The mourning hall was in disarray, with corpses strewn everywhere and no living people left.
These people died horribly; some were stabbed through with knives, and others were smashed to death with their brains splattered.
They did not sit idly by and wait to die, but instead resisted, and were therefore brutally murdered.
Sister Ning was holding one of the children, her eyes wide with terror, but the knife had already pierced through them.
They looked at each other.
"Great, there's no disappointment in her eyes. That's wonderful. I don't have to see the disappointment in her eyes anymore." Guan Zhiwei suddenly laughed, a hearty laugh that almost made her double over.
She staggered and placed Yao Daya next to Sister Ning. The whole family was now together.
