Chapter 36 Good Dog
Everyone sat at the same table, witnessing the open and covert struggles unfold before their eyes.
Madam Feng sighed inwardly, "Why can't a woman only marry one man? If she could marry two men, wouldn't there be so many problems?"
Hei Lao Er thought that even if Doctor Xiao Guan were a man and married both of them, there would still be a hierarchy. Si Lang would definitely be the principal wife, and what would happen if Gou Ya was wronged? After all, Gou Ya was a child he had watched grow up, and he felt a little sorry for him.
Only the village chief remained aloof, repeatedly expressing his overwhelming gratitude and deep honor at being seated at the same table as Silang.
"To be able to sit at the same table with a scion of a distinguished family like yours in this old age is enough to make my life worthwhile." The village chief was so moved that he was almost in tears.
The young master remained silent.
Aside from giving Guan Zhiwei a nice look (which he was forced to), he didn't really like to talk to other people.
He had figured it out: Guan Zhiwei wasn't particularly close to these people; they were just neighbors who had come together. She was a very strange person. Living among ordinary people, she exuded the air of a common farmer; living amidst violence, she was a murderous maniac. The alternation of these two auras made her seem harmless and approachable when she wasn't killing.
It's all an illusion.
Guan Zhiwei asked the village chief with concern, "Has your injury from last time healed?"
The village chief smiled and said, "Thanks to Dr. Guan, you are in good health and can live for another fifty years."
"That's great! Then you'll be my living advertisement as a miracle doctor."
"Within a radius of ten miles, everyone knows that we have a miracle doctor in Xiahe Village."
After the neighborhood chief finishes saying the nice things, he has to state the purpose of his visit.
He kept a close eye on Xiao Guan's expression while Xiao Guan ate. Feeling obligated because of his meal, he finally said dryly, "Xiao Guan, you give me some advice."
Guan Zhiwei casually picked up some food and said, "This is simple, just report the truth."
The village chief was stunned. "What if they come to arrest you?"
Guan Zhiwei felt there was nothing to discuss about this; it would only delay their meal. She waved her hand and said only four words:
"Let them come."
In her view, this land belonged to them because of their noble sentiments, outstanding character, or profound knowledge.
Neither.
It's because they have big fists.
Now her fists are bigger than theirs.
If they don't think so, then we can just compare.
Faced with her assertive and bold personality, everyone was at a loss for words.
But they were all used to listening to Xiao Guan.
Gao Huan chuckled softly.
Guan Zhiwei asked curiously, "What are you laughing at?"
"Doctor Guan has the demeanor of my father," Gao Huan said slowly.
Grand Commandant Gao was second only to the emperor, no, he even dared to threaten the emperor, so he wasn't necessarily below the emperor. He possessed immense power and formidable martial prowess, and apart from his untimely death, his life could be considered quite glorious.
But Guan Zhiwei still didn't take it as a compliment.
She said with disdain, "I'm not like your dad. Your dad thinks that's right. I know it's wrong, but I just want to have fun."
There are many times in life when you regret not cursing someone in that moment—"Damn it, you idiot!"
She did this to ensure she wouldn't regret it, not because she wasn't thinking clearly.
Gao Huan fell silent.
Even Dogtooth could sense the sudden chill in the surrounding atmosphere and, unusually, remained silent.
Gao Huan's gaze drifted to Guan Zhiwei, who still looked sleepy with her eyes half-closed. He tugged at the corners of his mouth, but couldn't manage a smile, before getting up and going back to his room.
"Did he just stare at me sideways?" Guan Zhiwei asked, puzzled.
Hei Lao Er didn't want to get involved, so he helped the village chief up and saw him off.
Madam Feng sighed, picking up the table as she said, "I don't know what Si Lang's father does, but you openly despise him like that. If he had any temper, he would have drawn his sword and dueled with you. How many people are like my son, who's like a clay figure, dead and unyielding no matter how much you poke him? It's normal for him to get angry."
Yan Chunsheng pretended not to hear his wife's complaints and picked up the bowl to wash it.
"It's no big deal. His father's dead, what's wrong with saying a few words?" Guan Zhiwei said awkwardly. She killed him, and he didn't do anything about it. What could he possibly do?
Madam Feng shook her head helplessly: "Excuse my bluntness, Xiao Guan, do you not have a father?"
"You can tell from that, you've got some skills." Guan Zhiwei gave a thumbs up.
Madam Feng smiled and said, "You shouldn't be praising me with such glib words right now; you should be flattering me instead."
“Why should I coax him? If he’s angry, that’s his fault. I won’t be angry with Xiao Guan.” Gouya said confidently, puffing out his little body.
Guan Zhiwei wasn't very moved, and only said, "You're being very sycophantic."
Dogtooth paused for a moment, then asked in confusion, "What kind of dog is a 'licking dog'? Is it a good dog?"
Guan Zhi smiled, patted his head, and replied, "Yes." Then he left.
Dogtooth was so happy that he spun around in circles and even diligently helped Madam Feng pick up the table. He had so much energy he didn't know what to do with.
When Madam Feng saw Guan Zhiwei go into the room and take something out, she went straight to Si Lang's room. She thought to herself, no matter how much a half-grown child is loved, he is not as good as a handsome young man.
"Dogtooth, you need to grow up quickly."
“I’m already quite big. I’ll be fourteen after the New Year. Listen to how I speak; it’s hoarse. Doesn’t it sound a bit like a man?”
Madam Feng just smiled and said, "Fourteen is nowhere near as good as eighteen."
Dogtooth thought what she said made sense and wanted to ask her for advice, "Sister Feng, why did you marry Brother Yan?"
Yan Chunsheng ate in the kitchen with A-Tu. The children and the elderly didn't sit at the table. He knew he was disliked, so he wisely avoided showing his face in front of Guan Zhiwei. After taking care of the elderly and children and finishing his meal, he finished eating himself, then came out to clean the table and wash all the dishes, being extremely attentive.
Madam Feng's smile faded slightly. "I was sold to their family."
Dogtooth stammered, unsure of what to say. Although he was young, he was quick-witted and could tell that Madam Feng's marriage was not happy.
"During years of famine, there is a large number of people being bought and sold, but if they really can't make ends meet, they can leave. The government has not said that men and women cannot be separated."
“I can’t leave.” Madam Feng rubbed Dog Tooth’s head. “If Atu grew up to be your age…”
She paused, then smiled at Dog Tooth: "You can't buy Xiao Guan; she could kill your whole family."
Dogtooth pondered, "It's just me and my grandma in my family, Xiao Guan can buy both of us."
"You're so clever."
"Of course, I'm the smartest." Dogtooth looked around: "Where's Xiao Guan? I'll discuss this with her."
Lady Feng said with pity, "She went to find Si Lang."
