Chapter 3 Don't be afraid, I'm here
For a moment, Ji Zheng didn't know how to get along with this sudden daughter-in-law.
So there was no reply.
Ji Hean was used to Ji Zheng's indifference to him and didn't expect Ji Zheng to respond to him.
After shouting this, he concentrated on his work.
For a while, both of them were silent and did their own work.
Although the spring sun is not as hot as the summer sun, Ji Zheng gradually felt overwhelmed after being exposed to the sun for a long time and doing a lot of physical labor.
At this time, the others in the family had already started working in the fields. Even the five-year-old Ji Hui was bending over and pulling weeds.
Sweat oozed from his forehead and slid down the corners of his eyes. Some of it dripped onto the ground, wetting the soil, and some of it flowed into his eyes.
Bending over for a long time caused extreme pain in the waist and back, so Ji Zheng had to stop and rest for a while.
Although he was not born into a wealthy family in his previous life, he had never done farm work.
I didn't expect it to be so tiring.
"Would you like some water?"
As the sound rang out, a pot of water held by a pair of skinny hands appeared in front of Ji Zheng.
Looking at the owner of the hand, it was Ji Hean.
Ji Hean's head was still lowered. Ji Zheng discovered that every time Ji Hean spoke to him, he lowered his head.
"Thank you." Ji Zheng took the water, tilted his head back and took a sip.
The water was warm from the sun.
After drinking the water, Ji Hean stretched out his hand again. Ji Zheng thought he wanted to drink too, so he gave him the water.
When giving water, I found that Ji Hean's palms were full of knots, and it was obvious that he was the type who did a lot of work.
Ji Zheng looked in the direction of Ji Hean's hand and found that Ji Hean's cheeks were red and his forehead was covered with sweat.
Looking at Ji Hean like this, Ji Zheng suddenly felt a little uncomfortable.
Ji Hean took the kettle but did not drink from it. Instead, he threw down the hoe in his hand and put the kettle in a cooler place.
Was it someone who brought him water? Ji Zheng watched Ji Hean's actions, and suddenly he felt that the water he had just drunk was like a warm current that warmed his heart.
Ji Hean put the water down and came back. As if knowing that Ji Zheng was not going to do anything, he said, "Alang, you are just fine. Why don't we just leave it at that for today? You can go back and have a rest. Dad and Mom will definitely understand."
The sound is still small.
Ji Zheng really couldn't move anymore; the sun was making his forehead hurt.
Looking at Ji Hean's appearance, Ji Zheng thought for a moment and said, "You come back with me."
"No, I still have to work." Ji Hean shook his head, "You can go back alone."
Ji Zheng didn't think too much when he said this. He simply felt that Ji He'an must be tired, so he wanted him to go back with him to rest.
But what he didn't expect was that he was no longer in a state where he could feed the whole family. It was okay for him to not work because he was sick, but if Ji Hean didn't work, then other people would definitely have opinions.
Hearing that Ji Hean was not going back, Ji Zheng also had no plans to go back. He felt really embarrassed to leave Ji Hean alone here.
"Forget it. I won't go back. I can still hold on."
Ji Zheng picked up the hoe and started turning the soil.
Seeing this, Ji Hean remained silent.
The sun slowly moved westward, and after Ji Zheng drank the water for the nth time, he finally finished his work.
The family gathered in groups of three or four and set out on their journey home.
After returning home, the married people went back to their rooms to wash and change clothes.
Ji's mother came back an hour early to cook, so the hot water was ready when they got home.
Each family can get some hot water and go back to their room to wash up. After washing up, they can go out for dinner.
Dinner also consisted of pancakes, but since they were fresh out of the pan they were not that hard, along with two stir-fried vegetables and a meat soup.
However, it was called meat soup, and to Ji Zheng it looked like it only contained a little bit of meat foam.
Looking at such food, Ji Zheng felt sad, it was poor, really poor.
There is no rule of not talking while eating or sleeping in their family, so during the meal, Ji Hean and Ji Zheng were the only ones chatting about miscellaneous things.
Of course, the main topic was what each of them would do after the crops at home were planted.
The family was accustomed to Ji Zheng's silence, because he was like this in the past, speaking so little that people almost thought he was dumb.
After dinner, Ji Hean went to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen.
The others also went out one after another.
There is an open space in the center of the village, where people usually gather after dinner to chat.
In this way, we can save some oil lamps and kill boring time. After all, the lower class people really have no ways and means of entertainment.
Ji Zheng did not go, firstly because he was not used to coming here, and secondly because he was really tired today.
After returning to the room, he collapsed on the bed and let out a breath of foul air. He hadn't felt this tired in a long time.
Just when he was dozing off, he heard the sound of something falling to the ground outside.
And the sound was so loud that it woke him up from his sleepiness.
The sound came from the kitchen. Thinking of Ji Hean in the kitchen, Ji Zheng hurried out.
When I arrived at the kitchen, I saw Ji Hean lying on the ground in a mess, with a broken earthenware bowl beside them.
As soon as he saw Ji Zheng, Ji Hean quickly got up, looking extremely scared.
"Yes, yes, I'm sorry." He lowered his head, not daring to look at Ji Zheng.
For a family like theirs, every stitch and thread is a property, not to mention so many broken bowls.
One bowl was worth one cent. Ji Hean broke four or five bowls, which was worth four or five cents.
Ji Hean curled up into a ball, as if he was ready to be beaten by Ji Zheng.
Ji Zheng didn't care about the broken bowl, he was more concerned about whether the person was okay.
"Are you injured?" Ji Zheng asked.
Ji Hean didn't expect that Ji Zheng's first sentence was about him. He was stunned for a moment, but quickly came to his senses and shook his head gently.
In fact, his arm was cut, but he didn't dare to say it.
Hearing that no one was injured, Ji Zheng breathed a sigh of relief. He said, "You go back to your room first. I'll clean up here."
After saying that, he squatted down and started picking up the debris on the ground.
Hearing this, Ji Hean wondered for a moment whether he had heard it wrong or whether he was dreaming.
He still remembered that last month, he accidentally tore Ji Zheng's clothes while washing them, and Ji Zheng beat him so hard that his hand was almost broken.
Seeing that Ji He'an was still standing there, Ji Zheng thought that he might be frightened, so he stood up and grabbed Ji He'an's hand, wanting to take him back to the room.
Ji Hean was originally thin and small, and now that he had gotten into trouble, he wanted to curl up into a ball, his whole body was shaking, and he looked pitiful.
After Ji Zheng brought him back to the room, he looked at his appearance, sighed in his heart, and touched his head soothingly.
"It's okay, don't be afraid, I'm here."
