Chapter 203 Should I Hate Him?

Chapter 203 Should I Hate Him?

When the news of the emperor's death reached the Changxing Marquis' Mansion, Jiang Lan had just gotten on the carriage to leave when she heard the noise outside. She pulled aside the curtain and looked out, only to see carriages hurriedly passing by, all heading in the same direction, as if something big had happened.

She looked back and saw that it was the direction of the imperial palace. She immediately realized something and her expression was shocked. Her mind seemed to go blank for a moment, and a complex emotion surged in her heart. She had respect, gratitude, fear, and resentment towards the emperor... At this moment, all of these turned into sadness, and she felt infinitely desolate.

As an emperor, he possessed supreme power, with the power of life and death at his fingertips. However, he could not enjoy the happiness of family life like ordinary people. Fathers and sons turned against each other, brothers killed each other, and finally became victims of the power struggle...

"Lan'er?"

Jiang Lan finally came back to her senses from the vague sadness when she heard someone calling her. Jiang Shen asked someone to stop the carriage over.

"It's His Majesty..." Her expression tensed and she paused without saying anything else. Jiang Shen nodded slightly with a heavy expression, and she knew the answer. The emperor really... passed away!

Jiang Shen restrained his heavy expression and said, "My father and I are going to the palace now. You go back first."

Jiang Lan also reminded him to be careful. Jiang Cheng, who was waiting in front, turned back and urged Jiang Shen to hurry up and not delay entering the palace. He told him to talk about it when he came back. He hurriedly reminded Jiang Lan that it was a mess outside and asked her to go back quickly and not go out.

At Jiang Cheng's urging, Jiang Shen left first. He lifted the curtain and looked back. Seeing that Jiang Lan's carriage had also left, he felt relieved.

On the way back, Jiang Lan's mind was full of Qi Wuhan. She wondered where he was and what he was doing...

He entered the palace this morning. I wonder what the emperor said to him before he died. Is he still in the palace or has he left?

She suddenly wanted to see him, hug him tightly, and tell him that he was not alone and that she would always be with him.

But given his personality, if he has something on his mind, he will probably find a place where no one is around and drink to drown his sorrows.

If drinking could really dispel worries, then she would let him get drunk, put all his worries behind him, and have a good sleep...

When Jiang Lan returned to the mansion, she saw white silk hanging everywhere and heard the servants crying in the distance.

She suddenly remembered the scene when her grandmother passed away. Everyone was crying, but she couldn't cry at all. People pointed at her and pointed at her. She secretly ran to the garden and hid there. She squatted on the ground and watched the little ants crawling around. Suddenly, a voice came from above her head and asked her,

“Why aren’t you crying?”…

"Madam?" Qing'er called her. Jiang Lan withdrew her thoughts and asked Qing'er to ask the housekeeper whether the Marquis had returned. Then Qing'er came back and told her that he had not returned yet. She took Qing'er and Gui'er back to her residence first, thinking that if he had not returned after dark, she would go out to find him, so as not to be picked up by others as a homeless drunk.

After entering the room, Jiang Lan didn't notice anyone on the bed at first. The next moment, she heard a voice calling "Xiao Lan'er", which startled her. She thought there was a thief in the room. She immediately realized who was calling her and searched for the other person with her eyes. Then she found someone lying on the bed.

When she walked over, she saw Qi Wuhan lying on his back on the bed, one leg dangling over the edge of the bed and stepping on the ground, his shoes still on, one hand resting on his forehead, his eyes closed, looking very tired.

Jiang Lan sat down on the edge of the bed without saying anything, intending to stay with him quietly for a while. The next moment, he hugged her from behind, buried his head in her shoulders, and his voice sounded a little low, "Why don't you speak?" He hugged her a little tighter, as if only by being close to her could he feel calm and peaceful.

"Your Majesty," Jiang Lan paused and asked softly, "what did he say to you?"

"He asked me if I hated him."

His tone sounded calm, but beneath that calmness there seemed to be a dark and sharp emotion lurking, wanting to be released.

"Do you think I should hate him?"

Jiang Lan didn't know what to say to comfort him. She blamed herself for being tongue-tied and unable to utter a few words of comfort. Suddenly, she asked, "Are you sad?"

Qi Wuhan smiled, and the suppressed emotions deep in his heart seemed to be suddenly swept away by this irrelevant question. Then he told her that he would take her to a place.

Half an hour later, the carriage stopped at the door of Huajian Cottage.

Jiang Lan pulled aside the car curtain and looked out. The surroundings were still as quiet as usual, giving people the illusion that nothing had happened and everything was still the same.

He said he wanted to drink, and the wine here was the best.

The garden is still as quiet as ever, making people feel as if they have escaped into another world and don’t have to worry about the chaos and noise of the outside world for the time being.

The waiter left after bringing the wine over. Qi Wuhan poured the wine for himself. When Jiang Lan took the wine pot and prepared to pour the wine, he gently pressed her hand and said softly, "You can't drink now."

"I know." Jiang Lan poured a glass of wine into the glass in front of him. Qi Wuhan smiled slightly, picked up the glass and drank it all.

So she poured the wine and he drank it.

The pot of wine was soon empty. Qi Wuhan was not drunk at all, but the corners of his eyes were slightly red, and it was obvious that he had been drinking. Jiang Lan called the waiter and asked him to bring the strongest wine.

Qi Wuhan smiled slightly and asked the waiter to bring some more food.

After the waiter brought the wine and snacks, Jiang Lan ate the snacks and Qi Wuhan drank the wine.

After he finished the glass, his face flushed.

Jiang Lan watched him pour the second glass of wine and had no intention of stopping him. She had originally intended to let him get drunk.

After pouring the second glass of wine, he didn't rush to drink it. He said, "Haven't you always wanted to go to Jiangnan? I'll take you there in two days."

Before he finished speaking, Jiang Lan frowned and looked a little unhappy.

"I'm not going anywhere," she said angrily.

Qi Wuhan explained, "The capital isn't safe, but your uncle's family is still there to take care of you in Jiangnan. If you don't want to live there, I've bought you another house. I'll come pick you up after I finish dealing with things in Beimo, okay?"

Jiang Lan turned her head away without answering. She didn't want to be angry with him, but when she thought about how he didn't recognize her the last time they met after he went back, she became scared and didn't want to be separated from him again.

"Don't worry, the Soul Seal is with me." Qi Wuhan seemed to sense her worry and comforted her, "Now that I have remembered, no matter what the high priest used before, it will no longer work on me." He reached out and held her face, making her look at him. His rosy peach blossom eyes looked at her with incomparable affection, and his voice was as firm as a rock, "I will never forget you again, believe me."

"When will you come back?" Jiang Lan asked.

A gentle smile blossomed in his peach blossom eyes, and he swore on his finger, "One month, at most one month, I will come back to pick you up."

When Qi Wuhan woke up, it was already dark.

"This wine has a really strong aftereffect." He said with a smile, raised his hand and pinched his forehead, feeling a little headache.

Jiang Lan brought him a bowl of sobering soup and asked him if he remembered how he got back.

He smiled, took the bowl of sobering soup and drank it.

He was so drunk that he couldn't even open his eyes, but he still held her hand and walked forward...
