Chapter 204: Thank You Gift
Jiang Cheng and Jiang Shen were still keeping vigil in the palace. In the second half of the night, Qi Wuhan was summoned into the palace again.
When Qi Wuhan arrived, thick smoke was still billowing above the palace, but the fire had been put out.
The fire was in Concubine Qing's bedroom.
There were two stretchers in the yard, covered with white cloth, emitting a pungent smell of burning.
When the fire broke out, there were only Concubine Qing and her personal maid Cai Lian in the bedroom. Although the two bodies were burnt beyond recognition, everyone present believed that they were undoubtedly the same two people.
Commander Li led his men to surround the inside and outside of the palace to prevent anyone from leaking the news.
The Crown Prince looked at the burned-out bedroom in front of him with a solemn expression. When Commander Li brought Qi Wuhan over, the Crown Prince said, "Commander Li went in to investigate and it seems the fire was set by someone."
Qi Wuhan walked to the stretcher, squatted down, lifted a corner of the white cloth, took a look, and then covered it.
"You go in and take a look." said the prince.
Qi Wuhan went into the hall to check it out. When he came out, he patted the black ash on his hands and walked over to say, "How does Your Highness intend to deal with this matter? In my opinion, it is best to keep it secret from His Highness the Sixth Prince for now."
The prince said, "How long can we keep it a secret? Sixth brother will find out sooner or later."
"The Queen has been worshiping Buddha outside the palace before. After a few days, we can tell everyone that she has left the palace to recuperate. I believe no one will be suspicious." Qi Wuhan suggested.
The prince turned his head to look at him, and when he looked away he looked thoughtfully. Then he asked Commander Li to take the stretcher away first. When there were only two people left in the yard, an atmosphere of silence spread between them.
"Father has told me everything about your life story." The prince spoke first, his tone calm and without any intention of challenging.
Qi Wuhan smiled faintly, his eyes looking at the twinkling stars in the night sky, his expression softened, "I don't have any big ambitions, I just want to live with my wife. As long as my wife is safe, I don't mind being a peddler."
The prince smiled after hearing this, and then he looked up at the deep night sky and asked, "Do you think I can be a good emperor?"
"Who can predict what will happen in the future?" Qi Wuhan turned around and patted his shoulder, then turned and walked away, "At least you want to be a good emperor now. Don't let down your innocent heart today in the future."
"A pure heart..." the prince murmured again, looking at the bright moon in the night sky, his expression relaxed.
After Qi Wuhan left, he walked to the Koi Pond and stood there for a while. Hearing movement behind him, he looked away and listened to the other person's footsteps getting closer and closer. After stopping, a clear voice sounded behind him, "Brother Wuhan, is that you?"
He turned around and when his eyes swept over, Changle lowered her head slightly, feeling both happy and nervous. Then when she raised her eyes again to meet his gaze, he had already looked away. Her gaze stayed on that well-defined face, her eyes full of attachment.
"Brother Wuhan,"
"Princess, please call me Marquis."
Hearing his indifferent tone, Changle felt as if someone had poured a bucket of cold water on his heart. He suddenly looked panicked, wondering if Jiang Lan had told him everything he had done. He asked tentatively, "Brother Wuhan, what's wrong with you? Do you hate me?"
"The princess is already married. There are differences between men and women. You should be more careful in the future." Qi Wuhan was about to leave when Changle reached out to stop him. She grabbed his sleeve and said excitedly, "Brother Wuhan, please take me away."
"Let go." His expression turned cold, and his eyes were like knives, gleaming with a cold light.
Changle withdrew her hand fearfully and said unwillingly, "I know you like me. You were the best to me when we were young. If it weren't for my father's disapproval, I would have married you long ago."
"You want to marry me?" Qi Wuhan curled the corners of his lips indifferently, his tone sounding like a mockery.
Changle felt humiliated and raised his hand to hit someone, but was swept over by those intimidating peach blossom eyes. He stepped back in fear. Those cold pupils were like the cold pupils of an animal, emitting a creepy cold light, which made people instinctively tremble and want to run as far away as possible.
"Let's go." He suddenly turned around and said.
Changle was stunned and didn't understand what these two words meant.
"Don't you want me to take you away?"
The pair of peach blossom eyes looked back slightly, with a deep and dark light in the bottom of the eyes.
Changle watched his back as he walked away. Although she was still a little scared, she couldn't help but want to follow him. She had an excited anticipation in her heart. This anticipation was as addictive as poison and could not be quit.
…
After leaving the palace, the carriage headed towards the Marquis' Mansion, with Qi Wuhan driving the carriage.
After parking the carriage outside the Marquis's mansion, he climbed over the wall and entered the mansion like last time.
The person in the carriage reached out to open the curtain, stuck his head out to look, then retracted his head and sat inside waiting, with a feeling of excitement stirring in his heart.
Soon, Qi Wuhan came back. The people in the carriage could not wait to open the curtain and threw something into her arms.
"Eat it."
Changle picked up the brocade box in her arms, opened it, and saw a snow-white pill inside. She asked anxiously, "What is this?"
Qi Wuhan said calmly, "This is called the Love Pill. I accidentally found it when I went to Southern Xinjiang to quell the rebellion. Once you take it, you will be completely devoted to the person you love and will never change your mind for the rest of your life. Didn't you say you love me? Then prove it to me."
Changle hesitated.
"Heh~" Qi Wuhan sneered, "It seems like it's just talk."
When he reached out to take the box back, Changle grabbed the pill and put it in his mouth, then swallowed it with his neck tilted back.
"Now you believe it?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt a strong sense of sleepiness coming over her, and she began to feel scared, "You...you gave me...what...to eat..." The cold face quickly became blurred in her sight, and she fell back on the stool and fell into a deep sleep.
…
When she heard someone calling her name and opened her eyes again, the first thing she saw was Cui Yan's face. She immediately stood up and hugged him very tightly, fearing that he would abandon her.
"Changle, are you okay?" It was the first time that Cui Yan was hugged by her so actively and so tightly. He felt happy and worried, afraid that something had happened to her.
He was keeping vigil in the palace at the time when a guard came to him with a message, saying that the princess had fainted by the koi pond and asked him to go there quickly.
He hurried to the koi pond and saw Changle fainted by the pond, so he immediately carried her away.
Later, the imperial physician came to take Changle's pulse, but could not find any problem, but the person remained in a coma.
Cui Yan stayed by her side until she showed signs of waking up three days later. He excitedly called her name over and over again. When Changle woke up and saw him for the first time, he was the only one left in her heart. Just like a baby that has just opened its eyes, it will be particularly attached to the first person it sees, and will regard him as the most important person in its life, and will never leave him again...
"Brother Yan, please don't leave me, okay?"
Cui Yan was overjoyed and excited, and wanted to rub her into his body. He promised with full heart and eyes, "Okay, I will never leave you again."
…
Two days later, at the same time and place.
Qi Wuhan came to the peach blossom forest in the back mountain as promised, but the person waiting there was not Manager Hao, but Miao Rong.
"Greetings, Lord Marquis." Miao Rong bowed and stepped aside, revealing a package on the table behind her. "This is the thank-you gift my adoptive father promised to give you, Lord Marquis. I hope you won't break your promise."
"Godfather?" Qi Wuhan's tone rose slightly.
Miao Rong replied, "My sister and I had our parents killed by the Black Lotus Cult. They then captured us and trained us as assassins. It was my adoptive father who helped me and my sister escape the Black Lotus and found us a place to live. From then on, we no longer have to endure the violence of life." She bowed deeply. "Thank you, Lord, for your kindness in sparing my sister's life. I am deeply grateful. My sister and I will leave the capital and never set foot here again."
After saying that, Miaorong bowed again and walked away slowly.
…..
"When can I go into the city?" Xie Yun muttered to himself while lying on the table and looking at the bright full moon in the night sky.
He originally wanted to drag Ling Feng to drink in the yard, but Ling Feng refused to drink, so he drank alone. When he got a little drunk, he started talking to himself.
"The Marquis said that the city is not peaceful now and we cannot enter the city." Ling Feng said.
Xie Yun propped up his head and muttered to himself to the moon, "I wonder how Sister Lan and Cousin Shen are doing?"
"Everything is fine." Ling Feng replied.
Xie Yun sighed and said, "Year after year, the flowers are the same, but year after year, the people are different..."
Ling Feng suddenly stood up and bowed towards the door.
Xie Yun looked over with his drunken eyes and thought he saw a figure walking towards him. He opened his eyes wide and looked carefully. Only when the person walked up to him did he recognize him. He happily called out "Brother-in-law" and glanced behind him, "Where's Sister Lan? Why is she gone?"
Qi Wuhan went into the house carrying a package. When Ling Feng came in with Xie Yun, he put a booklet from the package into his arms and asked Ling Feng to get ready as they would set off tomorrow.
"Where are you going?" Xie Yun asked incoherently.
Qi Wuhan said: "Send you home."
"Go home..." Xie Yun shook his head, "I don't want to go back. If I go back, they will force me to go on blind dates. I won't go back. I will be alone and free. How nice..." After Ling Feng helped him lie down, he fell asleep while talking drunkenly.
The next day at noon, when he woke up, he found himself in a carriage. He immediately stuck his head out and saw another carriage behind him. Ling Feng was driving the carriage. He called out to Ling Feng.
At this time, Jiang Lan also stuck her head out. He greeted her with surprise and asked the carriage to stop and wait for the carriage behind to come over. When he was talking to Jiang Lan, he found that there was another person in the carriage and greeted her happily, "Brother-in-law, you are here too~"
......
In the evening, the group stayed in an inn.
Qi Wuhan received a message from Black Hawk that something had happened in Dingcheng. After discussing with Jiang Lan, he took An Yue and left overnight.
The next day at breakfast, Xie Yu found that Qi Wuhan was not there and asked him where he had been. Jiang Lan said that he had gone back first because of something.
"Then let's rest for two more days and take it as a sightseeing trip. Don't rush, just take your time."
