Mu Wanyu shook her head frantically, raising her hands to try and push away the blood-covered man in front of her, but her frail body was too weak to budge him. The man's eyes were terrifying, and with her mouth covered, she was having trouble breathing, especially since she was already suffering from illness.
Seeing her rapid breathing and extreme fear, the man felt a pang of pity, but still said fiercely, "Don't make a sound, and I'll let you go. Otherwise, I'll kill you right now!"
Mu Wanyu felt like she was suffocating and quickly nodded. The man slowly released her, and seeing that she wasn't screaming anymore, he relaxed a lot. He suddenly fell to the ground, staring at Mu Wanyu with his eyes wide open.
Mu Wanyu huddled on the soft couch, panting heavily. It took her a while to catch her breath. Once her breathing was steady, she realized the man was staring at her, and she shuddered in fright. A look of despair crossed her face. What incredible luck she had! First, she encountered a womanizer last night, and now she'd run into an assassin!
Whose time traveler is so unlucky! She screamed inwardly, turning her eyes away from the man's scarlet eyes.
She spoke in a low voice, her eyes darting around, her tone filled with fear: "Who are you? What will it take for you to leave?"
The man didn't speak, only staring intently at her face, which made Mu Wanyu even more panicked. She wished she could faint right then and there, so she wouldn't have to face it. This was terrifying!
After a brief standoff, Huichun and Huiqiu arrived with their entourage: "Miss, we've come in!"
As if hearing the sounds outside, the man sat up abruptly, as if he were on his deathbed. In a flash, Mu Wanyu's slender throat was once again gripped in his hand.
"No matter what method you use, you're not allowed to expose me, or you won't live either!" the man threatened in a low voice.
As the door to the room was about to be opened, both of them nervously swallowed and stared intently at the door behind the pale purple curtain.
"You're pinching me like this, cough cough cough... I can't speak!" Mu Wanyu was almost frantic.
The man slightly loosened his grip: "Hurry up!"
Mu Wanyu tried to make her voice sound normal, but it was weak: "Huichun, you can put the water in the outer room. I want to rest for a while before taking a bath. Put it down and then leave!"
Huichun and Huiqiu pushed open the door and heard a few soft coughs coming from the inner room, which made them somewhat worried. They ordered someone to place hot water behind the screen in the outer room, and after the maids went out, Huichun asked a few questions out of concern.
"Miss, are you alright? I heard you cough a few times."
"It's nothing. I want to be alone now. You can all leave," Mu Wanyu replied, suppressing a cough and frowning.
The man beside him nodded, seemingly satisfied.
“Miss, we servants are at the door.”
"good."
Huichun and Huiqiu exchanged a glance; their young lady was acting strangely today. But they didn't think much of it, since Mu Wanyu did indeed prefer to be alone, so the two of them obediently went outside to keep watch.
The door to the room was closed. Mu Wanyu took a deep breath and finally left.
The man sneered, clutching the wound on his shoulder blade as he sat down on the soft couch: "I didn't expect Consort Xian to be so cowardly. I heard that she was arrogant and domineering in the palace in the past, and didn't take anyone seriously. Now it seems that's not the case."
The moment he sat down, Mu Wanyu immediately shrank to the other side, trying to keep her distance from him.
"Who are you! This is the Grand Scholar's residence, how did you get in!" Mu Wanyu was furious. Her identity had been so easily discovered, and she had no sense of privacy whatsoever.
The man was badly injured. He clutched his chest, a metallic taste rising in his throat, and soon blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. Mu Wanyu frowned, covering her mouth and nose, feeling nauseous.
"Heh, uh, what? Do you have a first-aid kit here?" The man raised his hand to wipe the corner of his mouth and spoke in a suppressed voice.
Mu Wanyu raised her hand and pointed to the cabinet behind him: "There... there, it's on top of the cabinet." Then she withdrew her hand and covered her mouth and nose, her big eyes watching his every move in fright.
The man staggered to his feet, took out his first-aid kit, and began cleaning his wounds, applying medicine, and bandaging them with practiced ease.
"Don't be afraid, you're not in any danger right now. It's not appropriate for you to know my identity; knowing too much won't do you any good."
Mu Wanyu nodded obediently. Now, no matter what he said, nodding was the right thing to do!
The man was amused by her terrified expression: "I'll leave tomorrow, so don't mention this to anyone."
Mu Wanyu nodded obediently.
The man ignored her, cleaned his wounds, and walked to the sandalwood table next to him. He sat down, poured himself a cup of tea, and then picked up some snacks and fruit to eat.
Mu Wanyu observed his every move. He was dressed in black, his face no longer visible, but he was quite handsome, with an extraordinary air about him. His eating manners were also refined and elegant, suggesting he was no ordinary person. The fact that he knew her identity so easily indicated that he was no simpleton either.
Seeing her curled up motionless on the soft couch, the man shook his head helplessly: "You look like I'm going to eat you." Then he got up and went to the inner room, where Mu Wanyu changed her clothes. As soon as he entered, he saw women's underwear hanging on a golden nanmu wood rack.
He immediately came out, looking somewhat uneasy. "Fine, I'll just spend the night on the roof beam," he thought. With a light leap, he lay down on the horizontal beam, leisurely watching the still motionless woman below.
Mu Wanyu dared not move an inch. The man of unknown origin had gone back to the roof beam, but what about the pool of blood on the ground? And how was she going to bathe and change her clothes later? Her sleeping posture would be exposed to strangers!
She felt that tonight would be a sleepless night.
The man wasn't in a hurry; he just watched her.
Half an hour later, Huichun and Huiqiu outside called out again, "Miss, Miss!"
Upon hearing this, Mu Wanyu moved her stiff body, slowly got up, wrapped herself in a warm wool blanket, and went out: "Huichun and Huiqiu are taking a bath in the side room today. Come in and move your things over there."
Huichun and Huiqiu were extremely puzzled. What was wrong with Miss today?
"I'll stay in the side hall tonight. You all go and make the arrangements." Mu Wanyu opened the door and watched as people carried their things over.
She stopped Huichun and Huiqiu from helping her into the inner room to prepare a change of clothes, gave them a wink, and then shooed them out before hurriedly going inside to pack her things.
"Miss Mu, where are you going?" The man climbed down from the roof beam and appeared beside Mu Wanyu, who was busy packing her clothes, his eyes full of mockery.
Mu Wanyu looked frightened, timidly clutching the clothes in her hands, and biting her lower lip: "I... there's only one bed here. Since you're injured, you can sleep on the bed. I'll stay in the side room for the night."
"I never expected Miss Mu to be so kind."
Mu Wanyu blinked nervously: "Although I am a bit arrogant, I will not hold a grudge against an injured person."
The man sneered, guessing that as soon as she went out, a large number of guards, or even Emperor Jingcheng's men, would come in and arrest him.
