Chapter 117 I'm scared when I see her

Lin Xiaoxiao carried a hoe to the backyard.

She stood at the edge of the field, gently put down the hoe, and then rolled up her sleeves. She had prepared a piece of cloth and wrapped it around her right palm to prevent blisters.

As the hoe fell, grass roots were stirred up, and soil was turned over. She hoeed rhythmically, each stroke steady and deliberate.

When she encountered areas with thick grass roots, she would stand the hoe upright on the ground, step on the edge of the hoe with her foot, and use her body weight to press the hoe down, allowing it to cut deeper into the soil and completely sever the grass roots.

After hoeing for a while, a small pile of weeds appeared on the ground.

Lin Xiaoxiao straightened up, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and took a breath.

After clearing away the weeds, Lin Xiaoxiao began to turn the soil. Turning the soil was much more strenuous than weeding. Before long, she planted the vegetable seeds. After finishing the vegetable garden, her arms gradually started to ache.

I'm so glad I didn't tell the team leader I wanted to switch to this job; it's really tiring.

After everything was ready, she carried a basket on her back and prepared to go up the mountain to collect some firewood.

After she left her house, everyone in Wangjia Village, whether they knew her or not, greeted her, making Lin Xiaoxiao laugh until she was stiff the whole way.

"Lin Zhiqing, have you eaten?"

"yes."

"Lin Zhiqing, are you gathering pig feed?"

"Hmm, get some firewood."

"Lin Zhiqing, come visit me sometime."

"Okay, I'll go when I have time."

In the past day or two, everyone in the village has learned that Lin Xiaoxiao risked her life to save people and has extraordinary fighting skills, but she has never bullied anyone in the village.

Everyone had a very good impression of Lin Xiaoxiao, the educated youth, thinking that she was a kind and warm-hearted person.

Everyone was relieved that such a good comrade had been assigned to their Wangjia Village.

Because of this incident, Wang Lili's family was already disliked, and because they had bullied Lin Xiaoxiao, they were even more disliked. From now on, no one could bully Lin Xiaoxiao.

As evening approached, Lin Xiaoxiao returned with firewood. Before she could even catch her breath, she heard a knock on the door.

She locked Han Qiushi's room first before opening the gate to the courtyard.

When I opened the door, I saw two elderly women, Zhou Cunhua and Lin Mudan.

"Aunties, what brings you here?"

She noticed that the two elderly women were carrying a lot of things in their hands.

Lin Xiaoxiao was waiting for them to speak.

I saw two old women pushing and shoving each other.

Finally, Lin Mudan's lips trembled a few times, as if she had a thousand words to say but didn't know where to begin. She simply stuffed the things into Lin Xiaoxiao's hands.

His face was full of gratitude: "Thank you, Lin Zhiqing. If it weren't for you, our family might have fallen apart. We don't have anything nice at home, so please don't mind."

Lin Xiaoxiao was somewhat taken aback by this sudden action.

Just as I was about to politely decline, the two elderly women, as if they had accomplished some important mission, put down their things, turned around, and left in a hurry, disappearing from the courtyard gate in no time.

Lin Xiaoxiao stood there, still holding those things in her hands, looking in the direction the old ladies had left, feeling both amused and exasperated.

After leaving Lin Xiaoxiao's courtyard, the two elderly women slowed down.

Lin Mudan followed Zhou Cunhua's footsteps and couldn't help but complain, "Why are you running so fast? I wanted to talk to Lin Zhiqing for a while, but you left so quickly, so I had no choice but to follow."

Zhou Cunhua replied, "Lin Zhiqing is a good person, I know that."

"But when I see her, my legs start to tremble."

"Lin Zhiqing is too amazing. Just thinking about what happened that day makes me scared whenever I see her." The old woman said, patting her chest as if the thrilling scene from that day was replaying in her mind.

They felt both gratitude and awe towards Lin Xiaoxiao. They were grateful that she had saved their family from crisis, but they were also afraid of the powerful aura she displayed at the crucial moment and her bloody methods of beating people.

After they walked away, Lin Xiaoxiao had no choice but to bring the things into the yard.

Open it and take a look.

The contents of the cloth bag were brought by Zhou Cunhua. Inside was a pound of precious White Rabbit milk candy, the candy wrappers reflecting the light slightly, and some peach shortbread wrapped in paper.

Lin Mudan was carrying a bamboo basket containing 20 plump eggs, with a bundle of firewood next to it.

It was filled with a lot of mountain produce, including dark, sun-dried wood ear mushrooms and a salted fish that smelled salty.

These gifts were quite substantial, representing the old lady's good intentions, so Lin Xiaoxiao accepted them all to avoid them having any ulterior motives.

She closed the door, rearranged her things, and continued organizing the firewood she had collected.

In such a large place, one person can leave their things anywhere, but Lin Xiaoxiao has obsessive-compulsive disorder and everything must be neat and tidy.

When it was time for dinner, Lin Xiaoxiao began preparing dinner.

Lin Xiaoxiao prepared to start a fire and cook rice.

That evening, she steamed a large bowl of rice, took out the braised pork from the state-run restaurant, and added a lot of cooked soybeans to the braised pork.

Then, using the boiled soybean soup, I made an egg drop soup. Finally, I stir-fried some green beans.

They brought the food and rice to the room to eat.

Han Qiushi was numb to the sight of the dishes; he figured he'd gain several pounds after living here for a few days.

As he enjoyed the delicious food, he asked, "I just heard you chopping firewood. Did you go up the mountain?"

Lin Xiaoxiao picked up a piece of braised pork and ate it: "Hmm, we didn't have much firewood at home, so I went to collect some."

"If you have enough time in the next few days, it's best not to go up the mountain."

“Our people have already alerted those inside. We’re worried that if you go up there, they might do something. It would be dangerous for you to go up alone.”

"I have already written to the army here, and I estimate that my comrades have already made arrangements. It will be safer for you to go up after this situation has calmed down."

Lin Xiaoxiao knew that this person was worried about her, so she nodded in agreement and didn't say anything more.

Han Qiushi continued, "Has anyone from the village gone up the mountain recently?"

Lin Xiaoxiao: "Some children from the village would cut pig feed at the foot of the mountain."

“It’s still not safe enough…” Han Qiushi frowned and thought.

Lin Xiaoxiao wasn't afraid to be alone, but she could roughly guess that things in the mountains were no small matter, so she took the initiative to take on the task. "Leave this problem to me. They all know me very well, and I'll talk to them tomorrow."

"Okay, I'll have to trouble you with everything."

"I've already spoken to my boss, and there should be a substantial reward, so your hard work won't be in vain," Han Qiushi added, worried that he had become a burden to Lin Xiaoxiao.

There are so many things to worry about when you're out there.

"This isn't too much trouble. The kids in the village are quite well-behaved, and I quite like them..."
