Chapter 110 A Couple Working Together to Build a New Stove by Hand (1/2)

Build a new furnace?

Qin Zhenbang and He Shumin were both stunned, thinking they had misheard. This stove was a style passed down from their ancestors; didn't every household in the country use this? How could they possibly make their own? And what kind of stove would they make?

Qin Zhenbang finally realized what was happening and frowned as he asked:

"Tangtang, this is no joke. This stove involves smoke extraction and combustion; if it's not handled properly, it could cause carbon monoxide poisoning, which is a life-threatening situation!"

"Dad, don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Su Tang knew she had to give them a reasonable explanation, and she had already prepared her words. "My father liked to collect old books from overseas. Among his belongings were a few rare notebooks on thermodynamics during the Western Industrial Revolution. I've read some of them, and perhaps I can try to apply the principles described there."

Thermodynamics?

Su Tang wasn't intimidated. She walked to the table, picked up a pen and paper, and quickly sketched a structural diagram. The diagram was much more complex than the existing furnace, containing various winding pipes and partitions.

“Dad, look,” Su Tang pointed to the blueprints and explained in the simplest terms, “The stove we’re using now mostly expels the heat from burning coal directly through the chimney, wasting about 70-80%. My design is called a heat-concentrating circulation furnace. First, I changed the straight-through flue to a vortex type, allowing the heated flue gas to circulate more within the furnace, retaining the heat more effectively in the room. Second, here, I designed a secondary combustion chamber where any unburned coal smoke undergoes a second combustion. This not only increases thermal efficiency but also makes the emitted smoke cleaner, with almost no black smoke.”

She paused, then drew a square on the side of the stove and connected two pipes to it. "Finally, add a hollow interlayer to the stove wall so that water can flow inside. This way, when the stove burns brightly, the water in the interlayer will also get hot. If possible, it can also be connected to the kitchen and bathroom, making it a dual-purpose stove that can provide both heating and hot water at any time."

Qin Zhenbang was stunned.

The swirling flue, secondary combustion... it felt like opening the door to a whole new world. Although the principles were profound, the design was clearly explained, the logic was airtight, and it even sounded... surprisingly reasonable!

"What materials do you need? I'll get them!"

Qin Ye, who had been silent all along, finally spoke.

"What needs to be done? I'll do it! You just give the instructions."

Su Tang felt a warmth in her heart: "Okay. We need some firebricks and some thick iron plates, the thicker the better."

"I'll go ask at the logistics warehouse!" Qin Ye said, about to leave.

“The logistics department definitely doesn’t have it.” Qin Zhenbang stopped him. “Only large factories have this kind of special material. I remember there was an abandoned old chain steel factory in the eastern suburbs of Sunshine City. It stopped production last year, and maybe there are still some leftover scraps in the warehouse.”

"Okay, I'll go right now!" Qin Ye didn't hesitate for a moment.

“I’ll go with you.” Su Tang put on her coat. “The size and structure need to be determined on-site after seeing the materials, and I have to be there.”

Looking at her determined eyes, Qin Ye didn't say anything more. He simply took off his military overcoat and wrapped it over her cotton coat, then wrapped a thick scarf around her tightly, leaving only her bright, sparkling eyes showing.

Qin Ye applied to the military region for a jeep and braved the blizzard that could almost blow a person away, driving with great difficulty towards the outskirts of the city.

In the abandoned old factory, the cold wind howled through the broken windows, making a sound even colder than outside.

Although the factory was abandoned, security guards remained. The two men bribed the guards and were able to enter relatively easily.

With sheer grit, Qin Ye managed to rummage through the mountain of waste and find several intact refractory bricks and a few iron plates, each half a centimeter thick.

"Wife, do you think these are okay?" Qin Ye's eyebrows were covered in frost, and his breath instantly turned into white mist.

Su Tang tapped the iron plate, listened to the sound, and nodded in satisfaction: "It's good! The quality is even better than I expected."

Next, it's time to get started.
