She had just sat up, her body aching, and put on a warm coat when there was a gentle knock on the door.
"Knock knock knock".
"Tangtang, are you awake?" It was the voice of her mother-in-law, He Shumin.
"I'm awake, Mom. The door isn't locked," Su Tang replied.
The door was pushed open, and He Shumin and her grandmother walked in one after the other.
"Oh my, my bride is awake?" He Shumin's voice was filled with undisguised laughter as she spoke, her eyes scanning Su Tang up and down with the knowing look of someone who had been there and a hint of heartache.
Grandma followed behind, her face full of love, holding a steaming enamel bowl in her hand.
"Quickly, drink this bowl of brown sugar poached eggs while it's hot, it'll help you recover." Grandma handed her the bowl, giving her a reproachful look. "Young lady, you're married now, you should know how to take care of your health."
Looking at the knowing smiles on their faces, Su Tang's cheeks flushed again. She took the bowl and called out softly, "Mom, Grandma."
"Hey!" He Shumin responded loudly. She took the wooden tray from her grandmother and placed it on the bedside table. On it were two bright red hard-boiled eggs and a bowl of fragrant millet porridge.
"Where's Qin Ye?" He Shumin asked casually as she helped her put a pillow behind her back. "Where did he go so early in the morning? Doesn't he know it's your first day of marriage? He just left his new wife alone at home. Wait till he gets back, I'll give him a piece of my mind!"
"Mom, he... had an emergency at work and left early this morning." Su Tang took a sip of warm, sweet brown sugar water, the warmth flowing down her throat to her stomach, seemingly dispelling some of her fatigue. Not wanting her elders to worry, she downplayed the "emergency mission."
"Is something wrong?" He Shumin's smile faded slightly, then she nodded knowingly. "Yes, he's the regimental commander, he has no choice. Tangtang, don't overthink it, that's how soldiers are, the mission is paramount. Try to understand him."
Grandma held a peeled red egg to Su Tang's lips and said with heartache, "Eat something first. Men have their careers to attend to, so we women should take good care of ourselves and the home, and not let them be distracted. That is the greatest support we can give them."
"Yes, I know, Grandma." Su Tang nodded and obediently ate the egg.
Although she still worried about Qin Ye, the care and concern from her elders seemed to have lessened her worries considerably.
After chatting with the two elders for a while and finishing the lovingly prepared breakfast for their new marriage, He Shumin and her grandmother, seeing that she looked well, gave her a few more words of advice to rest well and not get out of bed. Then they took the empty bowls and chopsticks and left, leaving her alone.
The room returned to silence.
Su Tang leaned against the headboard, but she couldn't calm down. She simply closed her eyes, and with a thought, she entered the space.
The scene before my eyes changed instantly.
The black soil stretched as far as the eye could see, so fertile it seemed to ooze oil. Not far away, the potatoes planted last time had already borne huge fruits, and lush green vines covered the ground.
On the other side, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers were all laden with juicy fruit, thriving under the constant temperature of the space.
The gurgling spring water gushes from the springhead, flows over the fields, and carries a refreshing and sweet fragrance.
Su Tang walked to the modern wooden house and pushed the door open to enter.
She ignored the mountains of wealth and resources and went straight to the laboratory's control panel.
"Start the system and query the inter-temporal and spatial transmission protocol."
"Command received." A cold, electronic voice echoed in the room. "Retrieving the 'space-time teleportation' protocol."
