Su Tang glanced at the higher ground not far away and replied lazily in his soldierly tone, "Number Three Battalion? You can't see anything! It's all trees and fog, completely obscuring everything. But there's been some noise over there, clanging and banging, probably building fortifications."
"Understood." Wolf Brother's voice sounded completely trusting. "Stay hidden and report any incidents immediately."
"Sizzle..."
The agonizing static finally stopped, and a busy tone came from the walkie-talkie; the other party had cut off the conversation.
The forest returned to its chilling, deathly silence.
Liu Landi also loosened her grip on the dagger. She leaned against a large tree, her chest heaving violently, and looked at Su Tang with disbelief in her eyes.
Gao Kai moved his slightly weak legs, struggled to his feet, leaned forward, his Adam's apple bobbing several times before he finally managed to squeeze out a sentence.
"Teacher Su... Teacher Su, how... how do you know this?"
Su Tang glanced at him indifferently, then skillfully clipped the walkie-talkie to her waist and casually replied:
“Back in the village, I learned some ventriloquism from my neighbors for a few days, imitating the crowing of chickens and barking of dogs, but it’s nothing special.”
Ventriloquism?
How many days have you studied?
Gao Kai's lips twitched violently, and he almost couldn't help but kneel down.
My goodness, Teacher Su! Is this what you call learning ventriloquism for a few days? This is more like possession! This isn't just imitating a voice; it's copying the personality, tone, and even the emotions at the time! If you were to perform crosstalk like this, all the crosstalk performers in the world would be out of a job on the spot and have to pack up and go home to grow sweet potatoes!
He was internally churning with complaints, but he didn't dare utter a single word.
Su Tang ignored Gao Kai, who was too shocked to speak, and instead made a "warning" gesture to the two of them. She then squatted down and began to focus on handling the trophy.
"Teacher Su, what are you doing?" Gao Kai asked in a low voice, full of curiosity.
"Looking for something." Su Tang didn't even look up, her fingers expertly turning the frequency knob on the walkie-talkie.
"That was their command channel, used to transmit orders. But in a battle, it's impossible for everyone to use the same channel; that would be too chaotic. They must have separate tactical channels for squad coordination."
Looking at Su Tang's focused profile, Liu Landi asked, "Can you find it? It's like looking for a needle in a haystack..."
Su Tang did not answer; she pressed her ear tightly against the walkie-talkie, carefully discerning the sounds coming from it.
"Zzz... rustling..." The majority of the frequencies were a noisy electrical sound.
Occasionally, some faint civilian radio broadcasts would come on, singing "Sailing the Seas Depends on the Helmsman".
She patiently filtered through this useless information, like a miner panning for gold in the sand. Gao Kai and Liu Landi held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
Suddenly, her fingers stopped.
The sound in that frequency band was very faint, but unlike the ordinary "hissing" sound, it had a regular, low "humming" background sound.
"Found it."
