Chapter 390 A Different Her

Chapter 390 A Different Her "What if, I mean what if," Bai Wei's voice was like icy poison, slowly eroding her will, "what if one day you can't hold on anymore and let it slip, dragging Su An into it? Then, the two of you will be 'allying a defense' and 'fighting to the end,' making your crimes even more serious! You will not only harm yourself, but also completely kill Su An!"

"You think you're protecting her, but you're actually the biggest threat to her!"

These words struck Wang Xiaoya's soul like a bolt of lightning.

Am I the biggest threat to Sister Su An?

This thought sent a chill down her spine, as if she had fallen into an ice cave. Yes, as long as she was still alive, the instructors would not give up trying to find a breakthrough through her. What if one day she really couldn't hold on... then she would become the culprit who killed Sister Su An!

This realization is even more terrifying than letting her die on her own!

"Then...what should I do?" Her voice was filled with desperate sobs. "I don't want to hurt Sister Su An...I really don't want to hurt her..."

"So," Bai Wei finally revealed her true intentions, grasping Wang Xiaoya's cold hands and speaking slowly in an incredibly gentle and compassionate tone, "Xiaoya, if you want to protect Su An, if you want to protect your family, actually... there's another way..."

...

When Su Tang returned to the dormitory, it was quiet inside; all the girls were fast asleep.

She walked to Wang Xiaoya's bedside. The little girl was sleeping soundly, breathing evenly, but her brows were still slightly furrowed, as if she was having some uneasy dream.

She didn't think much of it, tidied herself up, and went to sleep fully clothed...

The next morning, the whistle for emergency assembly sounded as sharp and piercing as ever.

The dormitory building instantly descended into chaos, but Su Tang's dormitory was a little different.

Wang Xiaoya was the first to spring out of bed, even faster than Su Tang.

Unlike usual, she didn't rush around frantically. Instead, she dressed and folded the blankets with astonishing speed, her movements as nimble as a veteran.

"Xiaocao, wake up! Don't sleep!" She even had the energy to push the still drowsy Chen Xiaocao.

"Sister Su An, let me help you with the buttons!" She ran up to Su Tang and, without saying a word, began to button up the complicated military uniform. Her fingers were nimble, and her face was filled with an excited smile.

Su Tang looked down at her, her eyebrows slightly raised.

Having endured the torment of solitary confinement, she was like a frightened rabbit yesterday, but after one night, she seems to be in almost too much spirit, like... like she's been injected with chicken blood.

"Little girl, what's wrong with you today?" Su Tang asked casually.

"It's okay, Sister Su An!" Wang Xiaoya looked up, her smile so bright it was dazzling. "It's just that being able to come out for training and be with everyone is so great! I feel so energetic!"

After she finished speaking, she ran to help Chen Xiaocao pull up her pants, and then was the first to rush out of the dormitory.

That silhouette was full of "vitality" that was inconsistent with her usual image.

As Su Tang watched her retreating figure, a hint of doubt flashed through her mind.

On the playground, the hellish morning exercise began.

Five kilometers of cross-country running with a load.

Contrary to her usual behavior, Wang Xiaoya not only didn't fall behind, but instead stayed close behind Su Tang. Her breathing was heavy, and sweat soaked her hair, clinging to her pale face, but her steps were unusually firm.

Halfway through the race, Chen Xiaocao in the team ran out of energy and slowed down, and it looked like she was about to fall behind.

"Xiaocao, let me help you!" Wang Xiaoya actually turned back, snatched the military water bottle from Chen Xiaocao's back, and hung it on her own body.

"Little girl, what are you doing! You were already..." Chen Xiaocao became anxious.

"Don't talk! Follow me!" Wang Xiaoya gritted her teeth, grabbed Chen Xiaocao with one hand, and supported the two heavy water bottles on her back with the other, and caught up with the group again.

Everyone was stunned.

Even Gao Kai and Jiang Yan couldn't help but cast surprised glances at them.

Su Tang's heart sank little by little.

She slowed her pace and walked alongside Wang Xiaoya.

"Little girl, give me a water bottle."

"No need! Sister Su An, I can do it!" Wang Xiaoya gasped for breath, but a stubborn smile remained on her face. "I can't keep holding you back. I want to become stronger and protect you all!"

She gazed greedily at Su Tang's profile, as if trying to etch this older sister's image deeply, deeply into her mind and into her very bones.

Su Tang didn't insist anymore; she just ran in silence.

The morning training session ended in an eerie atmosphere.

Wang Xiaoya was like a tireless spinning top, giving her all in every project, as if she wanted to use up all the energy she had never had in her life in just one morning.

At lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the enticing aroma of food.

Everyone was starving and wolfed down their food.

Su Tang got her food and sat down at a table with Wang Xiaoya, Chen Xiaocao, and Liu Landi.

As soon as she sat down, she saw Wang Xiaoya using chopsticks to pick up the few pieces of meat that were left in her enamel bowl and put them into her bowl.

"Sister Su An, eat!" Wang Xiaoya said with a grin. "You need to eat more, you're too thin! Look at your arms, they're as thin as sticks."

"You eat it yourself," Su Tang said calmly, putting the meat back on her plate. "You haven't eaten properly for several days, and it's time for you to nourish yourself."

Wang Xiaoya's love for meat was well-known throughout the camp. Whenever there was meat in the canteen, she would eat two extra steamed buns.

But today, she didn't even glance at it.

"I don't want it!" Wang Xiaoya put the meat back on her plate, her attitude firm. "I've been in solitary confinement these past few days, and my appetite has shrunk. I can't eat greasy food. Really, Sister Su An, please eat it for me. Wasting food is shameful!"

As she spoke, she broke off a large half of the white steamed bun in her bowl and stuffed it into the hands of Chen Xiaocao, who was sitting next to her.

"Little grass, you should eat more! You're so thin, you'd be blown over by the wind!"

Chen Xiaocao stared blankly at the steamed bun in her hand, then at the pitiful amount of rice and pickled vegetables in Wang Xiaoya's bowl, and whispered, "Xiaoya, why aren't you eating?"

"I told you, I don't have a good appetite!" Wang Xiaoya said loudly, as if to cover something up. "Besides, I need to lose weight! Otherwise, I'll drag Su An down again next time we have a mud pit battle!"

lose weight?

The fact that Wang Xiaoya said this word was even more unusual than the sun rising in the west.
