Chapter 355 Reverse Hunting
When Qin Zheng received the call, he was cleaning his gun in the basement of Tangdixuan.
Before he could finish assembling the parts, Bai Shu's cold voice came through the microphone.
"Qin Zheng, abandon the large-scale search."
Qin Zheng paused for a moment, "Young Miss?"
“That clumsy method is too slow.” Bai Shu’s voice was devoid of any emotion. “I need you to change your approach.”
Qin Zheng lowered his gun and stood up. He instantly entered a fighting stance.
"Please speak."
“Choose your most elite men, two will be enough.” Bai Shu paused for a moment.
"Disguise yourself as a bounty hunter from the black market and take the initiative to contact that ground rat."
Qin Zheng narrowed his eyes.
"You want us to sneak in?"
“It’s not about sneaking in,” Bai Shu corrected him. “It’s about getting them to take the bait willingly.”
Qin Zheng gripped the phone tightly, his mind racing.
"Young Miss, what if they realize we're from the military..."
“So you have to act like a mercenary,” Bai Shu interrupted him. “You only work for whoever pays you.”
Qin Zheng remained silent for a few seconds.
"Understood."
"Du Kangnian in Shanghai will prepare ample funds for you." Bai Shu's voice grew even colder. "You can spend the money however you like, but you must find the person."
"yes."
“One more thing,” Bai Shu added, “You should act like you’re hostile to the military, and it would be best to fabricate a story about being discharged from the army.”
Qin Zheng was stunned for a moment, then realized what was happening.
That's a ruthless move.
"Eagle's Nest" and Black Wolf are the kind of people who trust those with whom they have a grudge. A veteran who has been discharged from the army, willing to betray anyone for money, is the most sought-after person on the black market.
"I know what to do." Qin Zheng's voice became hoarse. "Don't worry, Miss."
He hung up the phone and turned to walk out.
The basement lights lengthened his shadow.
When I went upstairs, my two men were already waiting there.
One was named Zhang Hu, and the other was named Li Qiang. They were both brothers Qin Zheng brought back from the battlefield, who had risked their lives with him.
Qin Zheng looked at them and got straight to the point.
"Change your clothes and get ready to work."
Zhang Hu and Li Qiang exchanged a glance, asked no further questions, and turned to leave.
Ten minutes later, the three of them changed their clothes.
Wearing a worn-out leather jacket, faded trousers, and muddy military boots, Qin Zheng even smeared some cigarette ash on his face, making it look like he had been soaking in sandstorms for half a month.
Li Qiang pulled out a dagger and scraped it a few times under his fingernails.
"I look so bad that even my mom wouldn't recognize me."
Qin Zheng sneered, "You shouldn't recognize me."
He took out a stack of money from the drawer, dozens of ten-yuan bills, and slammed them on the table.
"Take it."
Zhang Hu put the money away and stuffed it into his pocket.
"What's still missing?"
Qin Zheng thought for a moment, picked up a bottle of Erguotou from the table, took a swig, and then poured some on himself.
He instantly reeked of alcohol.
"That's more like it." He nodded in satisfaction.
When the three of them went out, it was already completely dark.
The streetlights cast a dim yellow light on them, making them look like three ghosts crawling out of hell.
...
In the study of the Lu family compound.
Lu Jingyuan placed a thick document in front of Lu Zhenguo.
"Uncle, this is the search and rescue plan I put together after staying up all night."
His voice was filled with undisguised smugness.
Lu Zhenguo picked up the document and flipped through a few pages.
The map was densely marked with topographical maps, marching routes, personnel deployments, and detailed analyses of three hiding places.
“These three locations were deduced based on the Northwest Military Region’s operation report,” Lu Jingyuan said, pointing to several points on the map. “The terrain is concealed, easy to defend and difficult to attack, which best suits Black Wolf’s combat habits.”
Lu Zhenguo finished reading the last page and closed the document.
“Jingyan will not go to these places.”
Lu Jingyuan was stunned.
"Uncle, you..."
“These are standard approaches.” Lu Zhenguo pushed the documents back. “Jingyan never takes the conventional route.”
Lu Jingyuan's face turned red.
"But according to military theory..."
“Theory is theory, and people are people,” Lu Zhenguo interrupted him. “How much do you know about Jingyan?”
Lu Jingyuan opened his mouth, but couldn't say a word.
Lu Zhenguo stood up, put his hands behind his back, and walked to the window.
“Jingyan never fought according to textbooks.” His voice was calm. “Your theory might work against others, but it won’t work against him.”
Lu Jingyuan clenched his fists, his whole body trembling.
"But what does Su Wantang know?" His voice rose. "She's a woman, why should she know my cousin better than I do?"
Lu Zhenguo turned around and looked at him coldly.
"She is Jingyan's wife."
One sentence left Lu Jingyuan speechless.
"You may leave." Lu Zhenguo waved his hand. "I've reviewed the plan; it doesn't need to be implemented."
Lu Jingyuan gritted his teeth, saluted, and turned to walk out.
As he reached the door, he suddenly turned back.
"Uncle, you'll regret this."
Lu Zhenguo ignored him.
The door was slammed shut.
Lu Jingyuan stood in the corridor, exuding a fierce aura.
He took out a small notebook from his pocket, turned to a page with a phone number written on it.
That was a classmate he met at the General Staff Department, who is now working in the Northwest Military Region.
Lu Jingyuan stared at the number, countless thoughts flashing through his mind.
...
The black market teahouse is located in an alley in the west of the city.
A worn-out lantern hung at the entrance, and the inside was pitch black, with only a few tables scattered around.
When Qin Zheng pushed open the door, there were only three people in the entire teahouse.
One boss, and two guys who look like thugs.
Qin Zheng walked to the innermost table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
Zhang Hu and Li Qiang stood behind him, one on his left and one on his right.
The owner came over with a teapot, smiling, and said, "Guest, what would you like to drink?"
"I won't drink." Qin Zheng pulled a dagger from his pocket and slammed it onto the table. "I'm going to find the groundhog."
The boss's smile froze.
"Sir, our shop doesn't have that name..."
"Enough with the nonsense." Qin Zheng raised his eyelids, his eyes chillingly cold. "Tell him he was introduced by Du Kangnian from Shanghai."
The boss's expression changed.
"Please wait a moment."
He turned and walked towards the backyard.
Qin Zheng sat there, motionless.
Zhang Hu and Li Qiang didn't say a word; the entire teahouse was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
About five minutes later, a thin man came out of the backyard.
His eyes were small, with a rat-like appearance, and he always looked at people with a sideways glance.
"So you're the ground rat?" Qin Zheng looked at him.
The thin man smiled. "May I ask your surname, sir?"
Qin Zheng didn't answer. He took out the stack of money from his pocket and slammed it on the table.
"Whether it's your surname or not is none of your concern." His voice was cold. "I only need the information."
The groundhog's eyes were fixed on the stack of money, and its Adam's apple bobbed.
"Is the guest here because of Black Wolf?"
"nonsense."
The ground mouse sat down and lowered its voice.
"This intelligence isn't cheap."
"How many?"
"Fifty small yellow croakers."
Qin Zheng sneered.
"You have quite an appetite."
“It’s worth the price.” The ground mouse rubbed his hands together. “I not only know where the Black Wolves’ hideout is, but I also know what they’re doing.”
Qin Zheng narrowed his eyes.
"explain."
"It's not convenient here," the ground mouse stood up. "Come with me."
He turned and walked towards the backyard.
Qin Zheng, Zhang Hu, and Li Qiang exchanged a glance and followed.
The backyard was a small courtyard, piled with broken tables, chairs, and tattered rags.
The ground mouse carried a box out of the corner, opened it, and inside were several photos and a map.
“I got this at great expense.” He handed the photo to Qin Zheng. “Black Wolf’s stronghold is in an abandoned mine outside the city. It has a strong firepower, at least thirty people.”
Qin Zheng took the photo and quickly glanced at it.
The photo shows a dilapidated mine with a few low-rise houses surrounded by barbed wire.
"I understand that." Qin Zheng put the photo down. "Anything else?"
The ground mouse grinned.
“This is the most valuable information,” he said in a low voice. “Black Wolf is looking for Black Doctor.”
Qin Zheng's fingers clenched tightly.
Why would you want to see an unlicensed doctor?
"They've got a tough nut to crack, and he's about to be killed." A hint of excitement flashed in the ground rat's eyes.
"But the authorities want someone alive, so we need to find a doctor."
