Chapter 356 She Decides to Take Action Personally
Under the dim yellow light in the backyard of the teahouse, Qin Zheng held the microphone and lowered his voice.
"Young Miss, the ground rat said that Black Wolf is looking for Black Doctor."
"They have a tough nut to crack, he's about to be killed, but the higher-ups want him alive."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
Those few seconds felt like an eternity to Qin Zheng.
“It’s him.” Bai Shu’s voice was very soft, almost inaudible.
Qin Zheng thought about it. He knew without even realizing what kind of suffering that man would suffer if he fell into Black Wolf's hands, given his unyielding nature.
"Young Miss..."
“Listen to me,” Bai Shu interrupted him, his voice turning cold again. “Go back to Jedi Rat right now and tell him this job is too risky, you’re not taking it.”
Qin Zheng was stunned.
“But,” Bai Shu paused, “you should let him know that you know of a Mr. Bai in the capital who is a master of medicine and specializes in treating all kinds of difficult and complicated diseases.”
Qin Zheng's eyes lit up.
"Tell him that this Mr. Baizhu is elusive and charges exorbitant prices, but his medical skills are absolutely worth the price."
Bai Shu's voice carried a hint of coldness, "The rest, let the ground rat figure it out himself."
Qin Zheng instantly understood her intention.
This would make Black Wolf's side beg them to find White Magic, putting all the initiative in their hands.
"Young Miss, you mean to..."
"I want to go to the Northwest myself," Bai Shu said calmly.
Qin Zheng suddenly stood up, knocking the chair to the ground.
"Young Miss, you've gone mad!" His voice changed completely. "You're pregnant, and those people over there are all desperate criminals... you..."
“I am the only person in the whole world who can save him,” Bai Shu interrupted him.
"Qin Zheng, you know better than anyone what those so-called quack doctors are capable of. If Lu Jingyan is really seriously injured, only I can pull him back from the brink of death."
Qin Zheng opened his mouth, but couldn't say a word.
"Do as I say." Bai Shu hung up the phone.
Qin Zheng stood there, trembling all over.
Zhang Hu and Li Qiang walked over, but seeing his expression, they didn't dare to speak.
"Let's go." Qin Zheng took a deep breath, turned around and walked into the teahouse.
The ground mouse was still sitting there, eagerly waiting for a reply.
Qin Zheng walked to the table and put the stack of money back into his pocket.
"We're not taking this job."
The ground rat's expression changed. "Sir, the price is negotiable..."
“It’s not about the money,” Qin Zheng interrupted him. “Black Wolf’s firepower is too strong; we don’t want to lose our lives.”
He turned to leave, but stopped at the door.
“However…” Qin Zheng glanced back at the ground rat, “If they really want to save people, I do know someone.”
The groundhog's eyes lit up. "Who?"
“There’s a Mr. Bai in Beijing whose medical skills are divine,” Qin Zheng said casually. “He can cure any kind of difficult or complicated disease, but he has a strange temper and his prices are frighteningly high.”
The ground mouse rubbed its hands together, "Then you..."
"I'm not familiar with him," Qin Zheng sneered. "If you really want to find him, figure it out yourself."
After saying that, he strode out of the teahouse.
The ground mouse stood at the doorway, staring at their backs, its eyes darting around.
...
The atmosphere in the living room of Courtyard No. 1 was frighteningly oppressive.
Meng Wan's hand holding the teacup trembled, and the tea spilled out.
"Wantang, you can't go." Her voice was choked with sobs. "It's too dangerous there, and you're pregnant..."
Bai Zhu stood in front of the sand table without even raising his head.
"Mom, I have to go."
"No way!" Lu Zhenguo stood up abruptly, his face ashen. "Wantang, this is no joke. Those are all desperate criminals over there. You're a pregnant woman..."
"Only I can save him in the whole world." Bai Shu raised his head, his eyes calm. "By stopping me, you are killing him."
Meng Wan's tears fell.
Lu Zhenguo opened his mouth, but couldn't say a word.
Bai Shu's gaze swept over everyone in the living room.
"When Lu Jingyan fell into the hands of the Black Wolf, you thought those quack doctors could only bandage and stop the bleeding. They wouldn't be able to treat any more complicated injuries."
Her voice was cold. "If I don't go, by the time the military finds him, he will be dead."
The living room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Meng Wan covered her mouth, crying and trembling all over.
Lu Zhenguo had his back to her, his shoulders trembling slightly.
Just then, the door was pushed open.
Lu Jingyuan strode in, his face frighteningly pale.
"Su Wantang, are you crazy?" His voice rose sharply. "You're carrying the Lu family's child, and you still want to go to a place like the Northwest? You're playing with the Lu family's future!"
Bai Shu glanced at him but didn't say anything.
“Uncle!” Lu Jingyuan turned to look at Lu Zhenguo, “You can’t agree to this crazy plan. What if something happens to her…”
"Then let the Lu family be wiped out."
An old voice came from the doorway.
Everyone turned their heads.
Grandpa Lu stood at the door, leaning on his cane, his back ramrod straight.
“Grandpa…” Lu Jingyuan was stunned.
Grandpa Lu walked into the living room and sat down in the main seat.
He raised his head, his cloudy eyes staring at Bai Shu for a long time.
"Wantang," his voice was deep, "how confident are you?"
Bai Shu met his gaze without backing down.
“I went there, and at least 50% of them were there.”
“If I don’t go…” she paused, “there’s not even a 10% chance.”
Grandpa Lu closed his eyes.
The living room was eerily quiet.
About a minute later, he opened his eyes and looked at Lu Zhenguo.
"Second son."
Lu Zhenguo turned around, "Dad..."
"Send the best guards to accompany Wan Tang to the Northwest." Old Master Lu's voice left no room for doubt. "Use the highest authority in the military region to ensure her safety along the way."
Lu Zhenguo swayed slightly.
"Dad, this..."
“A daughter-in-law of the Lu family is not a canary that can only hide behind a man.” Old Master Lu patted the armrest. “If my son is in trouble, it is only natural for her to go and save him.”
Meng Wan cried so hard she couldn't speak.
Lu Jingyuan's face flushed red. "Grandpa, you're risking the lives of the whole family!"
"Shut up!" Old Master Lu slammed his hand on the armrest. "Jingyuan, who do you think you are, to dare point fingers here?"
Lu Jingyuan's face turned pale and then red.
"Wantang is Jingyan's lawfully wedded wife and the matriarch of the Lu family." Old Master Lu's voice was cold. "It's none of your business to question what decisions she makes."
Lu Jingyuan gritted his teeth, turned around and walked out.
As he reached the door, he suddenly turned back.
"I will report this to my superiors."
Old Master Lu sneered, "Go and report it."
Lu Jingyuan slammed the door shut.
Bai Zhu stood still and took a deep breath.
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Grandpa Lu waved his hand, "Go and prepare, we'll set off at daybreak."
Bai Zhu nodded and turned to walk out.
Meng Wan stood up to stop her, but Lu Zhenguo held her back.
"Let her go." Lu Zhenguo's voice was terribly hoarse. "Jingyan is waiting for her."
Meng Wan covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.
Bai Zhu returned to the bedroom and opened the wardrobe.
Wang Ma had prepared a large bag filled with medicinal herbs and medical equipment.
"Miss, is this enough?" Wang Ma's voice trembled.
Bai Zhu examined it and nodded.
That's enough.
She took Lu Jingyan's military uniform out of the closet, folded it, and put it in her bag.
Looking at her, Wang Ma's tears fell again.
"Miss, please be careful."
Bai Zhu didn't say anything and continued tidying up.
It's late at night.
The lights in Courtyard No. 1 are still on.
Bai Zhu sat in front of the sand table, her hand gently resting on her swollen belly.
The child kicked her.
She lowered her head and spoke very softly.
"Baby, be good."
"Mom will take you... to get Dad back."
Moonlight streamed in through the window and fell upon her.
Her profile was both gentle and resolute.
The wind outside the window was strong, rustling the leaves.
Bai Zhu stood up, walked to the window, and looked in the northwest direction.
It was pitch black there.
I can't see anything.
But she knew.
Lu Jingyan was there.
Waiting for her.
