Chapter 7 The Miraculous Effects of the Spiritual Spring: Subduing the First Person
Su Wantang helped Wang Ma into her bedroom and locked it.
Wang Ma sat awkwardly on a small stool by the bed, while Su Wantang looked down at the wound on her hand.
Under the light, the gash was so deep that bone was visible, the flesh rolled outwards, and dark red blood was still seeping out—a horrifying sight.
"Miss, it's nothing serious. I'm just an old woman with thick skin. I'll be fine in a couple of days." Although Wang Ma said it was nothing, a fine layer of sweat appeared on her forehead from the pain.
Su Wantang remained silent, her eyes as deep and cold as a still pool.
This wound was a slap to Su Wantang's face from Liu Liyun and her vicious dog.
"Please sit still, I'll go get the first-aid kit."
She stood up, walked to the corner of the room, turned her back to Wang Ma, and opened a dusty red cross wooden box. Her body conveniently blocked the old woman's view.
With a thought, a clean enamel cup appeared in her palm. She walked to the spring, bent down, and scooped half a cup of clear spring water.
Just then, the begonia flower mark on her right palm felt slightly warm.
A thought struck her, and she bit the tip of her index finger, squeezing a drop of bright red blood into the cup.
The blood droplet fell into the spring water, but instead of dissolving, it vanished instantly like a ruby, leaving the entire cup of water shimmering with a faint glow.
After doing all this, she had a thought and returned to her room.
The whole process takes only a second or two.
She carried the glass of water back to Wang Ma, her voice devoid of emotion.
"Wang Ma, drink this, it will calm your nerves."
Wang Ma was a kind and honest woman her whole life. She didn't doubt her young mistress's words at all, taking them as just sweet soup. She took the cup, tilted her head back, and drank it all in one gulp.
Upon entering the mouth, an indescribable sweet and refreshing sensation instantly slid down the throat, then transformed into a warm current that flowed into the abdomen and spread throughout the body.
Wang Ma breathed a sigh of relief, feeling that the pent-up frustration and fear of the past few days had been largely dispelled by this warm current.
But the next second, she realized something was wrong.
She subconsciously looked down at her injured left hand.
That one glance was like a thunderbolt, freezing her blood in place.
The gruesome wound that was still bleeding... the bleeding... stopped.
No, it's not just stopped!
The everted skin and flesh seemed to be being pulled and stitched together by countless invisible tiny hands, healing at a speed that was visible to the naked eye and completely defied common sense!
The wound is closing up! New pink, tender flesh is growing!
In just a dozen breaths, a deep, bone-revealing wound was reduced to a faint pink scar!
Wang Ma's mouth opened wider and wider, her eyes widened like copper bells, and her whole body trembled like a leaf in the wind.
What... what is this?
She suddenly raised her other hand and pinched her thigh hard.
pain!
It's not a dream!
"Ah..." She let out a gasp that was hard to understand, then quickly covered her mouth, afraid of alerting the people outside.
That's not all.
After that warm current circulated through her body, her old, cold legs that ached terribly on rainy days, her back that was so tired from years of housework that she could hardly straighten up, and all her long-standing chronic ailments felt as if she had been soaked in a hot spring, and all her aches and pains were relieved by more than half!
She suddenly looked up, staring intently at Su Wantang with an expression as if she were looking at a deity.
His lips trembled, and he couldn't utter a single word.
Thump!
Wang Ma's knees buckled, and she knelt heavily on the ground, her aged forehead striking the cold floor with a firm thud.
"Young Miss...you...you are a living Bodhisattva descended to earth! It's the heavens who have taken pity on us and opened their eyes!"
Suppressed sobs escaped her throat, tears streaming down her face as she wept uncontrollably.
What was happening before her eyes had completely shattered her decades of understanding. This was not something an ordinary person could do; it was a miracle!
"Wang Ma, what are you doing? Get up quickly!" Su Wantang hurriedly went to help her up.
“Wang Ma, the ground is cold. What happened today is known only to heaven, earth, you, and me. If even a single word gets out, neither of us will survive, understand?”
Wang Ma was helped to her feet, her whole body still trembling with excitement.
She nodded emphatically, her eyes filled with a mixture of awe and fervent loyalty.
"This old woman understands! Even if it means death, this old woman will never utter a single word! Miss, please rest assured!"
Su Wantang was very satisfied with her reaction. She helped Wang Ma sit down on the stool and looked at her calmly.
"Wang Ma, the Su family has so many servants, why were you the only one willing to stand up for me downstairs just now?"
Looking at the loyal old man before her, she asked the question that had been nagging at her for a long time.
In the original owner's memory, this family was all about scheming and flattery; only Wang Ma was the only person who truly cared for her.
She had to get to the bottom of this.
A person's loyalty doesn't come without reason. She needs to know how solid the foundation of that loyalty is.
Wang Ma wiped away her tears, sighed, and gazed out the window, as if lost in distant memories.
“I was your mother’s maidservant, and I have been by your side since I was a child. That year, my family suffered a disaster and we were about to starve to death. It was you who gave me a bite of food and saved my life.”
"Madam is kind-hearted and extremely intelligent. The Su family's current success is all thanks to Madam's help in building the empire for Master. But..."
A hint of hatred and resentment appeared on Wang Ma's face.
"But everything changed after that woman surnamed Liu entered the house. Madam's health deteriorated day by day, and finally... finally she passed away..."
Su Wantang's heart sank suddenly.
"You mean, there's something fishy about my mother's death?"
Wang Ma's lips moved, but her face showed a troubled and struggling expression.
“Miss, there are many things I… I have no evidence for. It’s all just my own wild guesses. That Liu Liyun is petty and ruthless. I’m afraid… I’m afraid that if I tell you, it won’t help you, but will instead harm you!”
Having lived in the Su family for so many years, she knew the mother and daughter all too well.
Without absolute certainty, she dared not let the young lady take this risk.
Su Wantang did not press the matter further.
She simply looked at Wang Ma quietly, her gaze calm yet carrying a convincing power.
"Aunt Wang, I've grown up."
Just five simple words.
Looking at the face before her, which bore a striking resemblance to the mistress, Wang Ma noticed that all the innocence and timidity had vanished from those eyes, replaced by a calmness she had never seen before.
The young lady before me is no longer the soft persimmon that everyone could bully! She can see through the treacherous schemes of that adulterous couple at a glance, force Su Zhenhong to bow his head, make the big shot from the capital obey her every word, and even bring out the magic potion to save lives!
What do I have to be afraid of!
A surge of immense courage rose from the depths of Wang Ma's heart.
She stood up abruptly, her eyes becoming incredibly resolute.
"Young Miss, please wait!"
She strode into her small, dark servants' room, with Su Wantang following behind.
Wang Ma knelt on the ground, groping to move the bed leg and laboriously prying open a loose floorboard.
From a hidden compartment under the floor, she took out a bundle wrapped tightly in oilcloth.
Unwrapping the layers of oilcloth, one finds a simple yet exquisite sandalwood box with a small lock covered in patina.
Wang Ma held the wooden box in both hands, turned around, and solemnly handed it to Su Wantang, as if she were carrying a heavy burden.
"Young Miss, this was secretly given to me by Madam before she passed away, when no one was around."
Her voice trembled slightly with excitement.
"My lady instructed me that when you come of age, when you are able to protect yourself, I will pass this on to you."
Wang Ma raised her head, her cloudy old eyes glistening with tears, a mixture of relief and heartache.
She said that this is her real dowry for you, the foundation for your future!
