Chapter Twenty-Eight
While Zhou Mo was changing clothes, Yu Xi went to the nurses' station to find a place that sold hot water bottles, filled them with hot water, and prepared to return to the ward. However, she encountered an uninvited guest on the way.
"I haven't visited you in so long, you don't hold a grudge against me, do you?"
“One or two of them like to talk like that nowadays.” Yu Xi gave a mocking smile. “What, at least they know not to be cowards. What about you? You’ve cleared all your debts, and now you dare to show your face.”
Shawn glanced at the pink hot water bottle in his arms. He knew Yu Xi didn't like pink, so it was obvious who this hot water bottle was for. "You're living like a normal person now. Are you going to tell her about your past? Who in your right mind would accept you? Someone without parents suddenly has a family. It's ridiculous."
Yu Xi pointed to her head. "Has your brain injury from when you were little still not healed? Otherwise, why can't you control your mouth and say such envious and jealous things? Oh, Shawn."
Shawn's expression suddenly changed. "Don't call me that name!"
"What's wrong?" Yu Xi blinked innocently, looking exactly like Zhou Mo when she feigned innocence, showing she had mastered the trick. "Don't you like the name you gave yourself? Sorry, did it remind you of your mother's past?"
Yu Xi curled her lips into a mocking smile and walked towards Shawn. "You're right, I have no parents, so don't mess with me. If I'm in a bad mood, your grave will be overgrown with weeds."
Sean looked ahead, his eyes blazing with barely suppressed anger, but he didn't confront Yu Xi.
Originally, he didn't want to provoke Yu Xi, but when he saw the oblivious and happy smile on Yu Xi's face, he couldn't accept it. Yu Xi was clearly the most miserable, the most humiliated, and the most deserving of contempt among the four of them, yet he was the first to have a family.
A person like light.
On what grounds?
On what grounds?!
This is unfair! People are divided into different classes from birth. If you have parents who can help you, your life will be smooth sailing. Or if you come from an ordinary family, you may not have power, but at least you have a home to shelter you from the wind and rain. What if you have neither?
Love or money, you have to choose one.
Why is it that someone like Yu Xi has both money and love?
Yu Xi was unaware of Shawn's twisted mind. From the moment they chose not to be friends, they had already parted ways. People grow up, and growth isn't always a positive thing. A sapling that isn't disciplined probably doesn't even know what it will grow into.
Growing up requires nutrients.
Without external help, all that's left is internal strife.
Fortunately, just when he was exhausted by internal strife, he found new nourishment.
The ward door was ajar. Yu Xi knew that Zhou Mo had left it ajar on purpose, so he didn't knock and just pushed the door open and went in. Zhou Mo had changed his clothes and was sitting on the edge of the bed waiting.
The rain outside was getting heavier and heavier, pounding against the window and shrouding the view in a hazy veil. You had to get very close to see what was outside clearly, but Zhou Mo didn't move. Sometimes, looking at the scenery in the rain had a unique charm.
Moreover, does one have to live so clearly and thoroughly?
"When I got back, it started raining as soon as I got into the taxi. The driver praised me for being lucky, but when I got out of the car, I still got soaked. What do you call this? You can dodge the first day of the month, but you can't dodge the fifteenth."
"If you're destined to be rained on, then you're destined to be rained on."
Hearing Zhou Mo's sudden remark, Yu Xi replied, "If there's a big tree nearby, you can hide under it."
Zhou Mo turned to look at him, a faint smile on her face, "What if there isn't one?"
"Call me and wait in your car. I'll come pick you up with an umbrella."
"real?"
"Fake."
Yu Xi stepped forward and placed the hot water bottle into Zhou Mo's arms. Taking advantage of Zhou Mo's current lack of aggression, she touched her hair and found it was still a little wet. "I'll go to the nurses' station to see if I can borrow a hairdryer for you."
"It's okay." Zhou Mo grabbed Yu Xi's wrist. "Have you finished your medication?"
"Um."
Yu Xi followed Zhou Mo's lead and sat down next to her. The two of them sat side by side, gazing at the rainy scene outside the window.
"With such heavy rain, what will happen to the flowers in the yard?"
"I asked my neighbor to help open the awning, so there shouldn't be any problems."
"Won't they think we're incredibly irresponsible owners?"
"Won't."
"Why?"
"Plants and trees have no heart, but people have feelings."
The two engaged in a question-and-answer session, and the atmosphere was quite harmonious.
"I saw Yu Ning today. He's not a bad person, but he's too cunning. I don't like him."
"He went to see you?" Yu Xi was completely unaware of this matter. He subconsciously reached for his phone to check, but when he looked up, he met Zhou Mo's dark eyes and realized that her pupils were black, pure black. "I don't know."
Do you like that child?
"I just felt sorry for him."
Zhou Mo sighed, "What can we do then? I've already taken away the name you gave him, Yu Xi. There's always a reason why someone is pitiful."
"Because I was powerless, I could only watch helplessly as my father's story came to an end. From that day on, I told myself that as long as something happens in my life, I will do my best to do it, regardless of the consequences."
"You are also within my sphere of influence."
After saying that, Zhou Mo got up and walked out. Before Yu Xi could ask, she spoke again, "I still want to be a responsible hostess. I've ordered dinner for you. I'll come see you again tomorrow."
Regardless of Yu Xi's expression, he left decisively.
"Tsk."
There were people selling umbrellas outside the hospital, transparent umbrellas for twenty yuan each. They weren't very good quality, but the transparent umbrellas had a nice atmosphere. Zhou Mo bought them not for the atmosphere, but simply because they could keep her out of the rain.
Yu Xi is wrong. Big trees can't shelter you from the rain. Standing under a tree on a rainy day will get you struck by lightning. It's human nature to seek advantage and avoid harm. Anyone who's willing to stand under a tree on a rainy day is either doing it willingly or is out of their mind.
Given Yu Xi's upbringing, Zhou Mo didn't know whether he understood this principle or not, but she didn't correct Yu Xi's 'misconception'. She figured it was fine as it was; even if she did correct him, he might not listen to her anyway.
Zhou Mo walked back to the courtyard. The hospital was not far from the courtyard, which was one reason, but another reason was probably that she felt her mind was not clear and needed some fresh air to clear her head. She didn't want to make things too complicated, or rather, she didn't want her life to be multi-threaded. Keeping things simple was just fine.
Having Yu Xi means you can't have Simplicity.
A man holding a black umbrella stood at the entrance of the courtyard. Zhou Mo knew who he was—Zhang Xing—even before she could see his face clearly.
Zhang Xing was still very friendly with Zhou Mo.
Zhou Mo suddenly felt a little confused. What exactly was her relationship with Zhang Xing?
She had never heard her father tell her story about Zhang Xing, yet she so easily accepted Zhang Xing's version of the story. Zhang Xing truly did think of her in everything, except for what happened with her father...
Aside from what happened to my dad...
Zhou Mo suddenly understood everything, and she couldn't help but laugh. Zhang Xing, who had walked over, didn't know what Zhou Mo was laughing about, and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
Zhou Mo waved her hand, "I just thought of a funny joke."
"What joke is so funny?"
"Uncle Zhang, have you seen The Truman Show?" The topic changed so abruptly that Zhang Xing didn't react for a moment, but he still answered Zhou Mo's question, "Yes, I have."
What do you think the ending of the movie conveyed?
"Find yourself and be reborn."
Zhou Mo looked at Zhang Xing with a half-smile. Zhang Xing's heart skipped a beat, and he had a bad feeling. When he looked at Zhou Mo again, she had already withdrawn that uncomfortable expression. Zhang Xing blinked, and Zhou Mo was still the well-behaved girl she always was.
"That's well said, I think so too."
Zhang Xing was completely confused. Wasn't this supposed to be a joke? How did it suddenly turn into a movie?
Zhou Mo took the key and opened the door. The awning had been opened, but the person who opened it was clearly not a flower lover. Several potted plants were not covered by the awning at all, and their leaves and flowers had withered from the rain. Zhou Mo put down her umbrella, moved the flowers into the awning, and then grabbed a towel from the side to wipe away the excess rainwater.
Zhang Xing followed behind her, holding an umbrella for her.
By the time Zhou Mo finished her work, it was completely dark outside.
Suddenly, a message popped up on Zhou Mo's phone. It was from Yu Xi, showing a photo of her dinner being completely empty, with the caption: "It was delicious."
Zhou Mo returned a smiley face and then put her phone away.
"Uncle Zhang, you've already found out about the matter, right? Is it very troublesome?"
After finishing everything, things are finally on track.
Zhang Xing glanced at Zhou Mo's wet hair and said, "Why don't you go take a shower first? I'm afraid you'll catch a cold."
"Well, it seems like this is going to be a long story."
During this meeting, Zhang Xing felt that Zhou Mo had changed, becoming more like Zhou Qinian. Thinking of this, Zhang Xing narrowed his eyes slightly and tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table. Zhou Qinian.
Zhou Mo took a very quick bath, and Zhang Xing suspected that she had only gone in for a short while, but he couldn't say that.
"The person who attacked Yu Xi and Qi Kai is called Sun Zhe. He is the sworn brother of Hun Tou Zai, a local bully from the next city. Hun Tou Zai's name is Li Zhenliang, a man who can command a lot of influence. He sent Sun Zhe to Ming'an, supposedly for a shipment of goods. I checked with the relevant departments and it wasn't drugs or smuggled goods. So the small-scale friction wasn't reported and was just treated as a regular brawl."
Hearing that it wasn't those things, Zhou Mo breathed a sigh of relief. She thought so too; Yu Xi wouldn't be so despicable. If it were true, then she would have no choice but to uphold justice and even kill her own family.
After all, this concerns the bottom line of the nation and personal morality.
As Zhou Mo thought this, she couldn't help but smile self-deprecatingly. Her kinship with Yu Xi was truly shallow, no wonder Yu Xi kept things from her.
"What is it that would make them fight to the death? And that they would even unite with people from Ming'an?"
Zhang Xing hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.
When Zhou Mo saw Zhang Xing's appearance, a bold but bad thought popped into her mind.
"Is this a person?"
