Chapter Twenty-Seven

Chapter Twenty-Seven

When they arrived at the destination, Yu Ning refused to go inside no matter what.

Zhou Mo was puzzled. "What's wrong? It's very safe here."

Yu Ning looked at the three big characters for "police station" and shook her head like a rattle drum, "No, don't go in, I don't want to go in!"

Yu Ning's eyes filled with tears as she looked pitifully at Zhou Mo, trying to gain her sympathy in this way, but unfortunately Zhou Mo wasn't buying it.

Who's chasing you?

"No, no one." Yu Ning's eyes darted around, and she refused to tell the truth.

Zhou Mo didn't waste any words with him and dragged him straight into the police station. Yu Ning didn't dare to shout and could only sob softly, struggling, "Sister, please, don't send me in. I won't be able to get out."

"No, you're not even sixteen yet, you won't be locked up." Zhou Mo said the cruelest words in the most innocent tone.

Seeing that Zhou Mo was serious, Yu Ning, being just a child, couldn't bear the pressure. He grabbed Zhou Mo's leg, sobbing, and hurriedly said, "I'll talk, I'll talk. A man from Shawn is looking for me. Brother Yu Xi wants to send me back. I don't want to go back. Sister, please help me, just like you helped Brother Yu Xi."

Children may not be cunning, but they will imitate others. Just like Yu Xi imitates the speech and actions of characters in TV dramas, children will also choose people around them to imitate their behavior. Obviously, Yu Ning's role model is Yu Xi.

Zhou Mo remained silent. Yu Ning assumed she was still dissatisfied. He wiped away his tears and continued, "Sister, please take me home. I'll be like Brother Yu Xi, I'll listen to you, I'll be your dog, I'll..."

Yu Ning was suddenly gagged and couldn't say a word.

"Who taught you to say that next?"

Although Zhou Mo asked that question, she didn't let go of Yu Ning's hand at all. With her other hand, she grabbed Yu Ning's collar and walked out. Seeing that it wasn't the direction of the police station, Yu Ning didn't struggle.

Zhou Mo took him to a place that wasn't far, just a nearby alley. She unceremoniously tossed Yu Ning aside, and seeing that Yu Ning was about to cry again, Zhou Mo pointed at him and whispered a threat: "If you cry again, I'll send you in."

"I...I'm not crying anymore."

"Who said those things to you just now?"

"Brother Yu Xi".

Zhou Mo sneered, "Stop lying to me." She grabbed Yu Ning's small arm, "With your skinny arms and legs, you think you can find my school? Do you really think I'm stupid enough to be fooled?"

"But I never expected that Yu Xi, who seems quite smart, would be so easily fooled by you, you little liar."

"No!" Yu Ning immediately began to defend herself.

Zhou Mo didn't give him that chance at all. "Back at the steel mill, you saw me a long time ago, didn't you? You deliberately played so happily with Yu Xi, trying to provoke me. Did you really think I couldn't see through you?"

Although she grew up under the protection and love of her parents, there were still people around her who harbored ill intentions towards her. Moreover, after experiencing so much recently, she had become extremely sensitive to the gaze of others.

No matter how clever a child is, he is still just a child.

Seeing that his little trick had been exposed, Yu Ning still stubbornly denied it, "I don't know what you're talking about? If you don't want to help me, then forget it, I'll go find someone else."

"Who should I talk to? Shawn? Get him to give me some advice on how to escape your alcoholic father?"

Yu Ning was surprised that Zhou Mo knew about this. "Did Yu Xi tell you?!"

"Why aren't you calling me 'brother' anymore?"

Since meeting Yu Ning, Zhou Mo asked Zhang Xing to investigate the child's background. Combined with Yu Xi's own background, it's hard not to think that someone deliberately planted this person next to Yu Xi.

At first, she was annoyed that she had asked Zhang Xing to investigate, worried that if this person was someone they had planted, he might not tell the truth. So she tested Zhang Xing and found that he didn't know either.

Zhou Mo thought of another possibility: something so sought-after shouldn't be fought over by only one party; even now, someone is still targeting Yu Xi.

Realizing this possibility, Zhou Mo felt a surge of anger.

"Your background is very pitiful. Your father must have beaten you badly, otherwise you wouldn't have come out to find a way to survive, right?"

Zhou Mo's sudden change of tone caught Yu Ning off guard. Her words struck a chord with the child, and the tears that had just stopped threatened to overflow again.

But Zhou Mo didn't give him a chance to be sad. She grabbed Yu Ning by the collar and said, "But you're pathetic, what's the point of dragging others along? Hmm? I'm only warning you one last time, stay away from Yu Xi, and don't let me hear you refer to yourself as Yu Ning again. He kindly gave you that name, have you ever thought about him?"

"A person is indeed born as a human being, but that doesn't mean they will remain a human being as they grow up, or that they won't turn into trash."

Zhou Mo bent down, and Yu Ning, or rather Li Sang, was so frightened that he took a step back, afraid that Zhou Mo would hit him. His body's conditioned reflex made him subconsciously shrink into a ball.

But Zhou Mo simply picked up a soda can from beside him and threw it into the trash can in front of Li Sang.

Without saying anything more to Li Sang, he left the alley, leaving Li Sang, a child, standing there in fear.

Zhou Mo returned to the school gate. This time, she looked around to make sure there were no strangers before entering the school.

Soon, a second person entered the alley. Shawn kicked Li Sang, who was still immersed in the sadness of being abandoned. Shawn was no kind person and wouldn't give Li Sang time to adjust. "You little brat, you can't even do this little thing. You're really useless."

"No, I...why doesn't she want me?"

"Because you have a father who is still alive. Look at Yu Xi, his father died early and he is all alone. It's not a burden for him to take him back. But you are different. You have a burdensome father and a burdensome self."

Li Sang's eyes were red from crying. He knew in his heart that Shawn was wrong, but that was all he could think. Zhou Mo was a cold-blooded woman. She didn't even offer a helping hand when she saw him so pitiful. Instead, she threatened him. He would definitely teach her a lesson next time he saw her.

"You're no longer useful to me. Just live the life your brother Yu Xi has planned for you."

Li Sang glared fiercely at Shawn, "It's none of your business!"

After saying that, he got up from the ground and ran away.

Shawn scoffed, "You little pup, you're not even grown up yet and you're already trying to bite people."

The school was unusually quiet during the holidays. Occasionally, a few schools would come to the basketball court to play basketball. The dull thud of the basketball hitting the ground was the only sound in the school. She followed the rhythm of the basketball hitting and climbed the stairs step by step.

The homeroom teacher was handling some matters in the office. She waited outside for a while, and only went in when she heard the homeroom teacher calling her from inside.

The homeroom teacher saw her come in and waved to her, "Have you decided what to fill in for the school yet?"

"I've thought it through."

Is there any hope for Tsinghua or Peking University?

Zhou Mo shook her head honestly. It wasn't that she was being modest; she genuinely had no confidence. Unless she performed exceptionally well in this exam, there was definitely no hope.

She recalled her performance in the college entrance examination. There was nothing unusual or extraordinary. It was probably similar to her usual mock exam scores. She couldn't get into Tsinghua or Peking University, but she could still choose schools below Tsinghua and Peking University.

"Really?" The homeroom teacher was waiting outside the exam room for the students to come out when she saw Zhou Mo walking out with a smile. She never worried about Zhou Mo's studies. Her grades in the second half of her senior year were so stable that they hardly fluctuated. It was hard not to suspect that a top student was controlling her scores.

“Really.” Zhou Mo smiled. Since her father’s incident, she had become much closer to her homeroom teacher.

The homeroom teacher sighed and shook his head. "Alright then."

Zhou Mo laughed again, "Teacher, why are you even more disappointed than I am? Did you think your bonus was gone?"

"Yeah, if you get into Tsinghua or Peking University, then I'll be rich!" The homeroom teacher exaggerated, which amused Zhou Mo, who went up to massage her shoulders.

"Then I have let my teacher down, and I can only let him take the smaller scholarship from the 985 university."

“If you perform normally, you’ll already be ahead of others in the college entrance exam. Zhou Mo, you never make your teachers worry.”

"You've chosen a school, but what about a major?"

"I'm still thinking about my major; I'll probably have to wait until the scores come out before I can decide on a specific one."

The homeroom teacher called Zhou Mo in today for two reasons: first, to find out Zhou Mo's self-assessment of her grades, and second, to see how Zhou Mo was doing.

She was worried that Zhou Mo's previous normal performance was because she had been holding on for the college entrance exam and would lose energy after the exam. But seeing that Zhou Mo was in good condition today, she was relieved.

"Okay, if you have any unsure decisions later, you can come to the teacher for advice. It's always better to discuss things together than to do it alone."

"Okay, thank you, teacher."

Looking at Zhou Mo, the homeroom teacher felt a surge of pride. She hoped that her future children would be like Zhou Mo—easy to take care of, sensible and well-behaved yet with their own opinions. It truly takes a very good family to raise such a good child.

pity……

When Zhou Mo walked out of the school, the sky outside had become quite overcast. She looked up at the dark cloud that was about to drift over in the distance, thought for a moment, and then hailed a taxi to the hospital.

As soon as I got into the taxi, the rain started pouring down.

"Young lady, you're really lucky. It's hard to get a taxi after it rains."

Zhou Mo didn't say much, only instructing the driver that the roads were slippery in the rain and he could drive slowly, as money was not an issue.

"Okay."

The entrance to the hospital's inpatient department was still some distance from the taxi stand. Even though Zhou Mo ran as fast as she could, she still ended up getting soaked. Zhou Mo stood outside Yu Xi's ward for a while, feeling chilly, and decided to wait a bit longer to let the chill dissipate so as not to pass it on to Yu Xi, which could really make her catch a cold.

She just didn't expect that Yu Xi wasn't in the ward, but outside.

"Why did you get caught in the rain?"

Zhou Mo turned around and saw Yu Xi holding the IV drip in one hand and taking off his coat and draping it over her shoulders.

A wave of warmth instantly enveloped Zhou Mo's body.

"My clothes are still wet."

"Go in and change in a bit, I'll wait at the door."

"I have no clothes."

Yu Xi laughed, more out of exasperation at her silliness, "Can't I wear my clean clothes? You've gone crazy from getting soaked in the rain."
