After Chu Wanwan finished assigning the tasks, the little animals scattered.
The next morning, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, Chu Wanwan eagerly arrived at the meeting place she had arranged with the animals the day before. She was filled with both anticipation and a touch of nervousness, wondering if these little creatures would bring any useful information.
As time passed, the first rays of sunlight pierced through the thin mist, illuminating the earth and bringing the dawn of hope.
Just then, a series of urgent caws broke the morning's tranquility. Immediately afterward, several crows flew quickly toward Chu Wanwan, their eyes seemingly filled with excitement.
"We found it! We found it! In a secluded grove of trees east of the city, a large clearing has been cleared. There are many strange, large metallic birds perched there, and there are also what humans call Japanese soldiers guarding the area." A crow cawed excitedly.
Chu Wanwan was overjoyed; this must be the enemy's fighter jet base!
"Wait a moment, our scouts in the city haven't sent any news yet. We'll set off to intercept the enemy's warplanes once they return!" Although Chu Wanwan was anxious, she knew she couldn't act rashly. She reassured the excited crows, asking them to wait, while silently praying that her scouts in the city would return safely and bring more detailed information.
Time passed slowly, and the sun gradually rose higher, bathing the earth in golden light. Just then, a faint rustling sound came from the ground, and Chu Wanwan immediately looked alertly towards the source of the sound. She saw several wild dogs cautiously emerging from the bushes, their eyes filled with weariness and fear.
“We’re back. The city was terrifying. People were being arrested and killed everywhere. We searched very carefully, afraid of being discovered by bad guys and turning into dog meat char siu buns.”
Chu Wanwan's heart tightened. She quickly squatted down and gently comforted the tired and frightened stray dogs: "You've worked hard. Tell me quickly, what's the situation in the city? Have you found any fighter jets parked in the city?"
“Found it, in the square in the center of the city,” said the lame golden retriever.
"About how much?" Chu Wanwan asked anxiously.
"Uh! I'm a dog. Even if we can communicate now, I'm still just a dog. You want me to count?" The lame dog barked a few times, expressing its dissatisfaction.
"Ahem... I was too impatient. You've done a great job; finding the fighter jet's location is a huge help. Thank you so much, thank you so much." Chu Wanwan coughed lightly, expressing her embarrassment.
"You're welcome, but don't look for us when you go inside to fight. Humans are terrifying; they even kill their own kind! So scary, so scary!" The lame golden retriever finished speaking and ran off. Seeing this, the other stray dogs all scattered…
Having obtained the exact location of the fighter jet in the city, Chu Wanwan no longer insisted on the animals' help. She waved to the wild dogs and then looked at the crows.
"Please take me to the fighter jet base. I won't bother you with anything else after that!"
"Caw! Caw!" The crows cawed a few times, then flapped their wings and flew away into the distance. Chu Wanwan lightly touched the ground with her toes and chased after them.
Chu Wanwan followed the crows closely, passing through dense forests and over rugged mountains, finally arriving at a secluded forest clearing.
Here, just as the crows described, a large clearing has been cleared, and the clearing has been modified, with the land compacted to form a landing pad with certain taxiing conditions.
Hundreds of bombers and helicopters of various shapes were parked on the open ground, their fuselages gleaming with a cold metallic sheen, making them particularly dazzling in the sunlight.
At the edge of this airfield, Japanese soldiers patrolled continuously, their shadows elongated in the morning light, appearing both stiff and tense. Armed, they frequently glanced around, clearly placing great importance on the security of this crucial military base.
Chu Wanwan hid in the shadows of the woods, carefully observing the guards' formation and movements. After a moment, she lightly touched the ground with her toes and left.
Chu Wanwan arrived at the Eighth Route Army camp and went directly to the commander-in-chief.
"Commander Zhao, I need about 120 pilots. I have located the enemy's base, which contains about 100 aircraft of various types. There are some more in the city, but I don't know the exact number."
Chu Wanwan gave a military salute and spoke to the old man in front of her.
"Oh? You found the enemy aircraft base so quickly? Is it really because of the little animals?" Commander Zhao said in shock. Even now, he was still somewhat skeptical of Chu Wanwan's abilities, which was why he made two arrangements.
"Mm!" Chu Wanwan nodded.
Upon hearing this, Commander Zhao's eyes flashed with a glint of light. He knew that Chu Wanwan would not joke about such a matter, so he spoke:
"There are only three fighter jets in the army, and only three pilots. I will send a telegram to the Central Committee now, asking them to send pilots over. If we can capture more than a hundred enemy fighter jets, we can break through the enemy's defenses tomorrow and reach Yongzhou City directly."
Early the next morning, the roar of helicopters pierced the sky, bringing with them a reinforcement team of pilots dispatched by the central government.
Commander-in-Chief Zhao personally greeted them and quickly formulated an action plan with them. Chu Wanwan was also invited to join the discussion, and she provided a detailed description of the layout and defenses of the enemy's air base, offering crucial intelligence for developing a precise attack plan.
The final plan was for the main force of the Eighth Route Army to feign an attack, thus tying down the enemy's frontline troops. Meanwhile, Chu Wanwan and Si Mingye would be responsible for intercepting the Japanese aircraft…
