Chapter 19

Chapter 19

"Coach Luo?"

The low voice calling woke Luo Jingyao from her excessive shock. She blinked and found that Brother Zhao had opened the door at some point and was now standing at the door looking at her curiously.

"Is this corridor too dark? How about you wait until I finish taking the medicine before I send you out?" As he said this, his forehead and nose, which were sweating due to the pain, reflected light slightly under the sensor light above his head, making the wrinkles on his face more realistic.

"No, I'm not afraid." Luo Jingyao's heart tightened, and she tried to respond in a normal tone, then slowly turned around.

Before turning around, she took a look at the room behind the man, but unfortunately the light was not good and she couldn't see what was inside clearly.

Ta-da, ta-da, ta-da.

Her unhurried footsteps echoed in the long, empty corridor until she heard the sound of a door closing. Only then did Luo Jingyao dare to turn around stiffly.

Brother Zhao's figure had disappeared, and the sudden extinction of the sensor light above plunged the end of the corridor into endless darkness.

Taking a deep breath, she unconsciously quickened her pace and finally even ran out of the side door of the mall.

Letting the cool evening breeze brush against her cheeks, Luo Jingyao looked at the cars speeding past on the street, and suddenly she felt as if she was in another world.

She turned her head again to look at the mall behind her, and without thinking too much, she rushed back to the subway station without delaying for a moment.

About an hour later, Luo Jingyao appeared downstairs of the Jinshi Public Security Bureau.

After signing a contract with the Public Security Bureau, she got an access card for the main gate. Unfortunately, it only allowed her to enter the compound but not the solemn office building in front of her.

Fortunately, before long, someone pushed open the glass door and strode towards her.

"Coach Luo! Our boss asked me to come down and pick you up." The person who came was Pang Guang, a typical person who arrived before the mouth. His loud greeting almost spread two miles away.

Luo Jingyao glanced at the time on her watch uncertainly. It was already past ten o'clock in the evening. Why was this man so excited, as if he was wound up?

Just as she was wondering, Pang Guang had already approached. He looked down and saw the bag in her hand, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he immediately stretched out his arm and took it attentively: "Hey, Coach Luo, just come if you want to. Why are you so polite?"

"...The porridge here is good. I need to eat something to have the energy to stay up late on the case." Luo Jingyao said, but for some reason she looked away feeling guilty.

"Come on, let's go upstairs and talk." Pang Guang couldn't wait to take her into the building. After getting on the elevator, he took out a sugar biscuit from the packaging bag and stuffed it into his mouth. Then he said with a mischievous look on his face, "I heard...you went to that training camp by yourself today?"

"You're the best, Coach Luo. Don't you find Captain Lin's face scary? Over the years, everyone who's dared to so blatantly contradict him, as far as I know, is probably in jail, except for you."

"What am I afraid of?" Luo Jingyao glanced at the young man curiously. "It's you who are with him day and night, not me."

Besides, she planned to run away after completing this job, so she was even more fearless.

Upon hearing this, Pang Guang looked at her with admiration, then swallowed the food in his mouth with great effort. "Team Lin sent the few photos of handwriting you sent to the laboratory earlier, but unfortunately, they didn't find anything unexpected after comparing them."

"I'm still working on the background check on the owner of the training camp and the medical records of the two deceased. I haven't been able to find anything from the public security system. I'm trying to get information from the court and hospital, but it's a cross-system operation, so the paperwork is quite cumbersome."

Just as the young man was explaining the latest progress of the case investigation to her, the elevator arrived at the seventh floor.

As the elevator doors slid open, Pang Guang rushed out first. Then, carrying a large bag of porridge, he staggered to the Special Case Investigation Team's office and kicked the door open. "Surprise! Coach Luo is paying for everything today!!!"

He was answered by an endless silence.

Even Luo Jingyao, who was following behind him, lowered her head and held her forehead. She felt that her old habit of being embarrassed for others had come back again, and her toes were so tired.

"Thank you for your hard work, officers. Have some porridge to warm your stomachs first!" Since she was already here, she finally suppressed the urge to turn around and run away, and walked carefully into the office to help greet everyone.

After seeing her figure, the atmosphere in the office instantly became much warmer. Guo Zhen and Pan Chang stood up to greet her and thank her, and worked together to pull Pang Guang to the coffee table on the side to share the food.

Luo Jingyao was left standing there in a daze, staring at the tall figure that was getting closer and closer.

Lin Jiafan wanted to say something after he stopped, but suddenly he smelled a faint scent in the air: "Have you been drinking?"

His tone was a little bit incredulous at this time, and his sword-like eyebrows were directly twisted.

Taking a small step back embarrassedly, Luo Jingyao rubbed her hands with a dry laugh. "It's an unavoidable, necessary exchange between colleagues. Officer Lin should understand, right?"

understand?

Lin Jiafan was almost laughing out of anger. He thought he was a well-behaved kid based on his appearance, but he turned out to be a crazy one.

Feeling a slight headache, he pinched his brows and decided not to dwell on the issue any further. "Since you've been drinking, you should go home and rest early. Coach Luo, don't worry. Once the further investigation results regarding Boss Jiang and the two victims are out, we will inform you truthfully, provided we are sure it won't affect the investigation."

After all, it was she who provided the relevant clues, and she should have the right to know.

"I always trust Officer Lin." Luo Jingyao smiled ingratiatingly, turned around, took a bowl of porridge from the coffee table and stuffed it into Lin Jiafan's hand: "Oyster seafood porridge, you work so hard every night, you need to replenish your energy!"

"Poof!" Pang Guang, who was eating on the sofa, couldn't help himself and spat out the porridge that had just entered his mouth back into the bowl.

The slightly older Guo Zhen was more direct: "Oysters...Captain Lin, are you suffering from kidney deficiency?"

Pan Chang followed suit, shaking his head and jokingly saying, "Coach Luo, you can't just say a man is incompetent!"

What responded to them was Luo Jingyao's bewildered look and Lin Jiafan's sidelong glare.

After successfully stopping the three people from saying more outrageous things, the man returned to his desk with the bowl of porridge. He sat on the chair, drank the porridge, and continued to coordinate the cross-system material retrieval on his phone.

Looking at his profile as he worked diligently, Luo Jingyao hesitated for a while, and finally gritted her teeth and moved closer.

"Um... Officer Lin, when you were following Brother Zhao from the logistics department at the mall today, did you find anything suspicious?" Before coming to the Jinshi Public Security Bureau, she had been thinking hard all the way on the subway, and she hadn't figured out how to bring up the matter so that it wouldn't be awkward.

She couldn't just say she suspected Zhao Ge was the murderer, right? Where was the evidence? The police never relied on their sixth sense to solve cases.

Should she confess to the police that she had seen the crime scene before, and that the sweater worn by the murderer was exactly the same as the one Brother Zhao was wearing?

It is not known whether Brother Zhao will be arrested at that time, but it is certain that she will be sent to a psychiatric department.

After much hesitation, he finally chose a relatively safe approach, which was to test the police's attitude first.

"Zhao Weiqing? I took a picture of his signature at work and sent it to the laboratory department, but the handwriting does not match the letters found in Wang Guifen's home." Lin Jiafan recalled briefly and replied casually.

Zhao Weiqing was able to enter and leave the weight loss training camp freely, so he was considered a suspicious person, so he naturally would not let him go.

"That doesn't fit..." Luo Jingyao's face was filled with visible disappointment, but she soon remembered something and asked anxiously, "I remember Officer Guo said before that based on the marks left on the two victims' bodies, the murderer this time was left-handed?"

"That's right." Lin Jiafan glanced at her while speaking, as if he was puzzled as to why she was so obsessed with a logistics staff of a shopping mall.

"Did this inference also get indirectly confirmed when the handwriting in those letters was later identified?" Luo Jingyao asked again.

The man put down the spoon and mobile phone in his hands and did not deny it, which was considered as confirming her statement.

"So which hand does Zhao Weiqing use to sign when he's working? His right hand?"

Lin Jiafan nodded slightly, and the look in his eyes when he looked at her became even deeper.

"Boss Jiang mentioned that he had been injured in an accident. About an hour ago, I met Zhao Weiqing outside the mall. He said that his right arm was in great pain due to his old injury. In the end, I was the one who sent him back to his residence." Luo Jingyao truthfully told the police what she had seen and heard tonight.

Then she paused, and when she spoke again, she was a little speculative: "That is to say, is there a possibility that he can also write and work with his left hand?"

Squinting his eyes and carefully recalling his interactions with Zhao Weiqing during the day, Lin Jiafan had to admit that this possibility did exist. "For some difficult moves, he does need to use his left hand to assist his right hand. Also, he's in and out of training camp so often, so it's reasonable for him to get some magnesium powder on him."

As he spoke, there was even a hint of admiration in his eyes as he looked at Luo Jingyao.

“…”

Seeing this, Luo Jingyao lowered her head even more. The current situation was like a poor student who got full marks in the exam by cheating. It was the kind of situation that made her feel guilty and have nightmares at night.

She believed that it was only a matter of time before the police would find Zhao Weiqing, and she just accidentally possessed a cheating tool to speed up the process. Otherwise, even if Zhao Weiqing did not have his right arm, it would be difficult for her to connect him with the murderer.

Of course, these are just unfounded speculations at the moment, and the final truth will still depend on the results of the police investigation.

"Coach Luo, you just said you sent Zhao Weiqing back to his residence?" Lin Jiafan picked up his phone again and confirmed something on it. "Zhao Weiqing should be on the afternoon shift tomorrow. Are you interested in going with me to visit my new 'master'?"
