Chapter 12: Dedicated to the cause until death

The apes watched helplessly as their leader became haggard from day-to-day hard work, feeling anxious but helpless to do anything.

They were eager to find a tribesman like Qi who possessed great wisdom and could share the heavy responsibility carried by their king.

But the truth is cruel. Qi is a special existence. No one can replace him, and no one can share his burden.

Under Qi's leadership, ape civilization developed rapidly, and farming, medicine, animal husbandry, hunting, etc. all reached the level of primitive human tribal civilization.

For the apes who were used to eating raw meat and drinking blood, this was an earth-shaking feat and the most incredible miracle their species had ever experienced.

The development of civilization has also allowed the ape community to gradually gain a foothold outside the protected areas. They are no longer afraid of ordinary wild beasts. Except for the immortal creatures that have become spiritual beasts, they are confident that they can fight against all life in the world!

When Qi was 57 years old, he could no longer bear the excessive fatigue and fell ill.

On the Blue Planet, apes can usually live to over 150 years old if they receive the baptism of spiritual energy.

Even if one has not experienced the baptism of spiritual energy, it is not uncommon to live to be a hundred or eighty years old if one has no worries about food and clothing.

But Qi overworked himself, and in his forties he began to suffer from some ailments that only elderly apes would have.

By the time he was in his fifties, he was already sick all over and would be unable to straighten his back due to the pain after working for three or four hours.

At the strong request of his tribe members, Qi sighed, put down his work and concentrated on recuperating.

As soon as Qi left, the ape civilization fell into stagnation and even regressed to some extent.

This made the apes realize the wisdom, strength, and irreplaceability of their leader.

But everyone will die one day. Even if Qi recovers from his illness, he will leave this world sooner or later.

What would the apes do then? Would they watch helplessly as their painstakingly developed civilization regressed or even perished?

No, the leader’s excellent bloodline must be passed down!

The apes discussed for an hour and soon reached a unanimous conclusion.

Qi lived a life of integrity and focused on the development of his tribe. He had not been close to women for decades. Needless to say, he had no descendants. How could this be possible?

The apes gathered almost all the young and beautiful women in the tribe and sent a few of them to Qi's residence on a regular basis every day, hoping that Qi would suddenly come to his senses one day and follow his instinct to reproduce.

But for some reason, Qi just refused to follow the wishes of his tribesmen.

He was even annoyed by the fact that his tribesmen sent beautiful women on time. He was even prepared to end his recuperation early and continue working, forcing the apes to temporarily give up this idea.

No one knew why Qi was so paranoid, but someone occasionally heard him muttering to himself towards the sky: "Father God, you said you would watch over us from heaven. If that's the case, you must also know about me.

For over forty years now, from a young man full of ambition to an old man riddled with illness, I have almost forgotten your voice and my memory of you has faded. Please forgive my willfulness, Father God. I will not marry you until you come down."

Yang Fan, who was observing the development of ape civilization from a God's perspective, couldn't help but sigh after seeing the tears in Qi's eyes.

"Qi, I have always been watching over you from heaven and have never left. Leave behind descendants, Qi. You have already given your whole life. What remains to be done will be left to the next generation, and the next generation after that."

After many years, Qi heard Yang Fan's voice again, and tears welled up in his eyes uncontrollably.

On that day, Qi and Yang Fan talked a lot. They did not talk about the development of civilization, but instead talked about some trivial things that seemed not very important.

The apes who occasionally passed by Qi's residence would be surprised to see their leader talking and laughing, because in their impression, Qi was a serious person who never smiled.

For some reason, after that day, Qi seemed like a different person and became very active in reproducing offspring.

In just three years, Qi married 32 beautiful women. Not yet satisfied, he worked hard in the following years and added another 17.

Qi's changes made his people very happy, and the ape civilization, which had been at a stalemate in development, also ushered in a turning point because of Qi's changes.

Not only did the reproduction of offspring change dramatically, but Qi's entire mental outlook was also completely renewed.

He used to be so serious that people were afraid to approach him. He did things meticulously and would not tolerate any carelessness.

Now he is kind and amiable, and is especially patient with newborn children.

After other leaders leave offspring, they basically hand them over to their partners to raise and ignore them themselves.

Qi was different. As long as his offspring were born safely, they would be sent to his side to be educated and guided by him personally.

More than ten years later, Qi's descendants grew up healthily. Except for a very few who died due to accidents, the others grew up successfully. With the knowledge taught by Qi, they made great strides in the tribe.

The development of ape civilization has once again reached a small climax.

Qi's descendants have inherited Qi's excellent genes. They not only make great contributions to the development of civilization, but also actively reproduce offspring.

Five years later, Qi became seriously ill and fell on the wooden bed. His breathing was shallow and his consciousness was a little blurred. He often could not tell the difference between day and night.

But he still used the last bit of his strength to tighten his throat, repeating two words in his mouth: "Father God."

"Qi, I'm always by your side."

Hearing Yang Fan's voice, Qi could no longer hold back his tears and choked out, "Father God, Qi started his apprenticeship at the age of twelve and became seriously ill at the age of sixty-eight. In the past fifty-six years, our tribe has grown from nothing to the rudiments of civilization we have today. Qi, you have lived up to my trust."

Qi passed away. Yang Fan stared at him for a long time, and finally let out a long sigh.

Yang Fan did not expect that Qi's death would shock him so much.

After Qi's death, Yang Fan personally erected a tombstone for him, writing the following eight characters: "Devote all my life to the cause, and never stop until my death."

The eight characters written by Yang Fan were transformed into the hieroglyphics created by Qi, so the apes could understand them.

When the apes who came to pay tribute to Qi saw these eight words, they all burst into tears and cried bitterly.

Yang Fan waved his hand, and suddenly the sky was filled with thunder and lightning, and a cold wind blew.

The heavy rain lasted for three days and three nights, as if the sky was weeping.

Some apes speculated that this was the Father God weeping for their dead leader.

Although Qi has passed away, his efforts over the past decades have enabled ape populations to gain a foothold outside protected areas and laid a solid foundation for the formation of human civilization.

In the following 70,000 years, although the development of ape civilization did not advance rapidly, it was steadily improving.

Since much of the knowledge left by Qi requires strong learning ability to master, the importance of wisdom always ranks first among the ape community, which in turn affects the process of natural selection within the ape community.

Under this subtle influence, apes evolved rapidly and in just 70,000 years they evolved into primitive humans.
