Chapter 2 Helping the Daughter-in-Law Break the Deadlock (2/2)

Please don't make it every year!

Zhou Yue rushed over and saw a child struggling in the water from afar. Her legs immediately went weak and she cried out, "Help! Someone save my Niannian!"

Liang Guiying, who was behind her, had already passed her and jumped into the pool.

Liang Guiying grabbed Zhou Xiaonian and struggled to lift her up and swim towards the shore.

The people by the pool quickly took the child and then hurriedly pulled Liang Guiying up.

The Jiangcheng Airport residential area consists of a dozen or so separate two-story villas and several five-story brick-concrete buildings, all with Suzhou-style arched windows and porches, which are very beautiful.

The residential area includes a canteen, an airport children's school, a health clinic, a department store, a basketball court, and an open-air cinema, making it an independent residential community.

Zhou Xiaonian fell into the water in a small grove of trees between buildings 6 and 7.

There's an abandoned lime pit left over from when a house was built in the grove. It's two or three meters deep and usually doesn't hold much water, but a few days ago, a heavy rain caused it to fill up, and the security department hasn't come to deal with it yet.

Older children know it's dangerous and won't come here. Even a child as young as Zhou Xiaonian wouldn't come here if an adult was watching over him!

Even though it was clearly Grandma Si who was engrossed in playing mahjong and hadn't been watching the child, she preemptively struck: "You good-for-nothing! I told you to sit there and play quietly, but you wouldn't listen and insisted on playing! You deserve to drown!"

Zhou Yue hugged Zhou Xiaonian, her mind still blank, only able to cry, unable to utter a single word in response.

Liang Guiying couldn't stand it!

She rushed over and kicked Granny Si, knocking her to the ground. Then she quickly straddled Granny Si and started kicking her face from both sides:

"My daughter-in-law invited you back to do the laundry, cook, and take care of the kids! You cheated and shirked your responsibilities! You played mahjong and enjoyed yourself! You almost ruined my granddaughter and you still dare to turn around and blame me! I'll beat you to death, you old hag!"

Liang Guiying was 1.6 meters tall, not particularly tall, but very sturdy. Because of years of hard work, she was very strong, and her fists seemed to be made of iron. She beat the pampered old woman, Si Po, without any chance to fight back.

Bystanders quickly intervened:

"Stop hitting him! If you keep going, someone will die!"

"She almost killed my granddaughter, I'd be letting Niannian down if I didn't beat her to death!"

"You'll go to jail even if you beat her to death!"

"With her at the bottom, I'm not at a loss!"

Seeing that Liang Guiying was determined to beat Granny Si to death, someone had a sudden idea: "Oh dear! Why isn't Xiaonian crying anymore! Could she be dead?"

This sentence successfully made Liang Guiying stop.

She kicked Granny Si viciously: "You old hag, you just wait!"

Zhou Xiaonian did cry, but she cried so hard she couldn't catch her breath. Liang Guiying took Zhou Xiaonian from Zhou Yue's arms, helped the child catch her breath in a few moments, and then carried the child to the clinic.

After examining her, Dr. Yu told Liang Guiying, "She's fine. She just swallowed a few mouthfuls of water. Take her home and take good care of her. But if you're worried, you can take her to the hospital for another checkup."

Liang Guiying was naturally worried.

Children's digestive systems are so weak, and they're drinking sewage from an abandoned lime pit—how could they possibly handle it? They'll likely get diarrhea very quickly, and might even develop a fever or more serious consequences.

Thinking of the little girl who died at the age of fifteen in her previous life, Liang Guiying felt as if her heart was being torn apart.

She can't even protect her granddaughter; she's not qualified to be a grandmother at all!

Suddenly, Zhou Xiaonian in her arms burst into tears. Liang Guiying snapped out of her daze, resisting the urge to lash out and kill the old woman, and shouted to the crowd:

"Does anyone have a tricycle they can lend me? Don't worry, I, Liang Guiying, won't take advantage of anyone. I'll pay whoever borrows my tricycle!"

"Uncle Zhong at the department store by the entrance has a tricycle!" A teenager raised his hand. "Grandma Niannian, I'm going to find Uncle Zhong!"

"Thank you, good child!"

Seeing that Zhou Yue was still just crying, Liang Guiying couldn't help but yell, "Stop crying! Hurry home and get Niannian some clean clothes! She needs to change her wet clothes right away, or she'll get sick!"

Zhou Yue was completely disoriented. She only started moving when she heard Liang Guiying's command. Liang Guiying patted her granddaughter's back to help her catch her breath while running towards the department store.

On the way, they met Uncle Zhong, who had come looking for them on a tricycle.

Liang Guiying picked up Zhou Xiaonian and sat down on the tricycle: "My granddaughter fell into the water. The doctor at the clinic said she just swallowed some water. I'm worried and want to take her to the hospital for observation for a few days."

Uncle Zhong answered simply: "My son is at the Workers' Hospital; he's on duty today. Where's Zhou Yue?"

"Go back and pack your clothes."

Uncle Zhong immediately went to Zhou Yue, and met her on the way.

Zhou Yue staggered while carrying a duffel bag. Seeing that she didn't even have the strength to climb onto the car, Liang Guiying reached out and helped her.

The tricycle quickly pedaled out of the airport living area.

The baby in her arms trembled uncontrollably. Liang Guiying held her tightly, gently comforting her while praying silently in her heart:

—Oh God, please take all the pain and suffering upon me alone, please don't let anything happen to my precious granddaughter!
