Chapter Thirty-Four: The Food Processing Plant (I'll Be Waiting for You in Hell)

Chapter Thirty-Four: The Food Processing Plant (I'll Be Waiting for You in Hell)

After a long and complicated negotiation with Ding Tianyi's family, and a whole day of work, a compensation amount was finally agreed upon.

The manager took a break from his busy schedule and wanted to have a good chat with An Caiyun.

An Caiyun gave the manager a deep look, then revealed an enigmatic smile. "Great! It's almost time to get off work. Let's find a place to grab some skewers and have a good chat."

Then, she turned to Yun Xin and asked, "Why don't you go too?"

Let's have dinner together after get off work...

Yun Xin hesitated for a moment, then agreed.

So the three of them set off. The manager and An Caiyun each drove, while Yunxin rode in the manager's car.

Ten minutes later.

"Let's go with this restaurant," the manager suggested.

“Okay,” An Caiyun agreed.

Manager An Caiyun went to park the car. Yunxin received a call from General Manager Yang's wife on the way, so she walked aside to talk on the phone.

“My husband loves to drink too much! I’m still worried. Others might not dare to call me and tattle on him because he’s a boss. How about this, you keep an eye on him for me. If any of his colleagues mention him drinking in front of you, remember to let me know.” Mr. Yang’s wife is truly worried sick about her family, trying every possible way to keep an eye on things.

“President Yang already has a perforated stomach and ended up in the hospital from drinking, he probably won’t drink anymore…” Yun Xin found it hard to understand, “He’s an adult, shouldn’t he have this basic judgment?”

Drinking any more won't just land you in the hospital, it'll kill you.

“Men, sigh.” Mr. Yang’s wife sighed deeply.

Yunxin always felt that there were many unspoken grievances hidden in the sighs.

“People say gambling addiction is hard to quit, and I think alcohol addiction is about the same. You don’t know, I’ve been trying to persuade him to quit drinking for years. But he’s the same as always, he’s always sneaking a drink behind my back, and he just can’t quit…” As Mr. Yang’s wife spoke, she recalled some painful memories.

Yunxin listened attentively, occasionally exclaiming "Wow—", "Ah—", and "How could he do that?" to create a lively atmosphere.

Mr. Yang's wife felt like she had met a kindred spirit, and she got more and more excited as she talked, unable to help but accuse her husband of all sorts of despicable acts, including but not limited to concealing, deceiving, and conspiring with others to trick her.

Time passes by unknowingly.

On the other side.

The manager and An Caiyun parked their car in the parking lot and then walked side by side toward the barbecue restaurant.

Whether it was the shock of Ding Tianyi's death or the shock of An Caiyun's change in attitude, the manager spoke much more politely, "Xiao An, everything is negotiable. It's not like I can't give you that senior sales position."

"I was just too busy at the time, and my mind didn't quite catch on."

"On second thought, who else in our sales department is qualified for this position besides you? Of course, it should be reserved for you!"

"It's alright." An Caiyun smiled. "I've thought about it carefully, and I don't necessarily need the senior salesperson position."

She once thought that her rival Ding Tianyi was the root of her misfortune, but after Ding Tianyi's death, she realized that the manager was an even greater evil.

With the manager around, her life won't be easy.

Actually... why be so fixated on being promoted to "senior salesperson"? Wouldn't it be better for her to just become the sales manager since the manager position is vacant?

An Caiyun outwardly agreed to find a place to talk to the manager, but inwardly she had already made up her mind to reveal the matter of the evolution game unintentionally.

In this way, the manager will die quietly, just like Ding Tianyi.

When An Caiyun first learned of Ding Tianyi's death, she panicked for a moment. Not because she was worried about the death itself, but because she feared being implicated and discovered.

But she repeatedly recalled that she had not done anything suspicious, and the police could not possibly suspect her.

An Caiyun was relieved and began a new round of hunting.

As for whether the manager will be alright...

After being told about the evolution game, Ding Tianyi first encountered an elevator crash, then a falling object from a height, and finally died of a myocardial infarction.

Even a manager couldn't avoid such a dense barrage of unexpected attacks every time.

An Caiyun spoke casually, already planning how to steer the conversation toward the evolution game later.

It would be best to tell them both when Yunxin is present.

"Um," the manager said, a bead of sweat appearing on his forehead, as if he'd just thought of something, "I know I've made a lot of mistakes in the past, I've realized it, and I'll change from now on. You see, the curse..."

"A curse?" An Caiyun was taken aback, stopped in her tracks, and looked at the manager.

"Ding Tianyi mentioned it to me before he died. But don't worry, I didn't tell anyone else," the manager hurriedly explained. "I'll treat you well from now on. Could you please help me lift the curse?"

An Caiyun didn't understand at first, but then her expression changed drastically. Just as she was about to move away from the manager, there was a sudden loud bang, the glass window shattered, and the shockwave sent the two of them flying a long way.

"Why? I told you I would treat you well from now on, why won't you let me go?!" the manager demanded angrily.

When he turned around, he saw that An Caiyun was also seriously injured and lying on the ground, her face covered in blood.

The manager's heart sank – An Caiyun couldn't even save herself, so how could she help him?

"Retribution, this is all retribution."

The manager gave a bitter laugh, then collapsed weakly a moment later, closing his eyes forever.

Not far away, Yun Xin heard the explosion, hung up the phone, and rushed over.

The entire street was severely damaged. Glass shards were scattered everywhere, and more than ten people were lying on the ground. Some were seriously injured and unconscious, while others had minor injuries and were vomiting blood; their conditions were very poor.

"What's wrong?"

"It seems there was a gas explosion at a shop, which blew up the whole street."

“Besides those lying outside, there are people inside the house.”

"This looks serious. Have you called an ambulance?"

"They called out, and they're on their way."

Yunxin found the manager and discovered that he was seriously injured and had stopped breathing.

An Caiyun lay to the side, appearing to be seriously injured.

"Hang in there, the ambulance will be here soon."

As Yun Xin approached, An Caiyun grabbed her clothes and said haltingly, "This world is actually playing a game, an evolutionary game. All the accidents and incidents are forcing humanity to evolve."

Those who cannot pass the challenges and cannot evolve will be eliminated.

"Ding Tianyi is dead, the manager is dead, and you're next."

Yun Xin paused, "Did you kill Ding Tianyi?"

An Caiyun chuckled softly, "I originally just wanted him to stay in bed for a few months, but I didn't expect him to die so easily. It's better that he's gone; without that kind of scum, the world will be a better place."

"Did you also cause the manager's downfall?" Yunxin asked again.

She's almost dead, there's nothing to hide.

An Caiyun confessed, "I had considered sending him to see Ding Tianyi, but the plan hadn't been implemented yet. The manager must have heard something from Ding Tianyi, and then he was involved in a major accident, taking me with him before he died..."

Finally, she looked at Yun Xin, a triumphant smile on her face, and uttered a few words with difficulty, "I'll be waiting for you in hell."

Yun Xin remained silent and told her, "I already knew about the evolution game, so nothing will happen."

An Caiyun's smile froze.

She suddenly remembered that the time when General Manager Yang was taken to the hospital after drinking, Yun Xin had called an ambulance in advance.

At the time, she only noticed that Mr. Yang didn't look well, and she didn't suspect anything. Now, looking back, it seems everything was foreshadowed.

After figuring it out, An Caiyun tilted her head, her eyes wide open, dying with her eyes wide open.

Looking at the ruins of the entire street, Yun Xin was secretly alarmed—several major accidents had occurred throughout the Federation this year, resulting in countless deaths and injuries. Could it be that informed players had leaked information carelessly?

Rescue workers worked until dark before finally getting the injured to the hospital.

The final statistics showed that 18 people died and 33 were injured.

At this point, everyone in the sales department except Yunxin was wiped out.

Unexpectedly, the boss happened to be nearby when the incident occurred and unfortunately injured his leg, requiring him to stay in bed for two or three months.

The employees panicked, worried that the factory might have to close down.

At a critical moment, the boss's wife stepped in to save the day, issuing instructions and arranging daily work in an orderly manner.

She even converted the sales department into a warehouse overnight, specifically for storing miscellaneous items.

"This is not superstition, but caution. As the factory manager, I care equally about the safety of every employee."

The employees were deeply moved, feeling that their boss was truly reliable. "Boss, it's okay if you stay in bed a few more days and never come back."

After the others were appeased and the factory returned to normal operations, the boss specifically asked Yunxin what her plans were. If she wanted a job transfer, she could make an exception.

However, Yun Xin refused. She said, "Too many things have happened recently, and I want to take a break for a while."

The landlady comforted him and gave him an extra month's salary.

Yunxin suddenly had a thought—each job lasted anywhere from seven days to half a month, but she could get one to three months' salary when she left. Just drifting along like this didn't seem so bad.

Well... it's a bit of a burden on the boss, the leaders, and the colleagues.

An Caiyun is dead, and the matter has come to an end, but the problems that have been exposed have not been resolved.

For example, An Caiyun only told Ding Tianyi about the evolution game, and the manager learned about it from Ding Tianyi through various channels. Why did he also encounter an accident? Was it just a coincidence, or was the manager also considered an "illegally informed person"?

For example, if finding out through intermediaries also counts as being an "illegally informed person," besides the manager, did Ding Tianyi mention it to anyone else? And if the manager found out, would he treat it as a joke and tell others about it?

If games spread like the flu, it's only a matter of time before they spread throughout the entire Federation.

Based on my past experience studying philosophy, not all questions have answers. Constant thinking may not lead to understanding, but overusing your brain will definitely cause a headache.

Therefore, Yunxin happily gave up thinking.

She changed into her usual comfortable clothes and went shopping alone.

On this weekday morning, the streets were deserted.

Yunxin went to the cinema and bought movie tickets.

It's worth noting that movie tickets are admission tickets. That means you can enter the theater after buying a ticket. Once inside, just find an empty seat.

If no one else enters before her, she can choose any seat in the theater.

Yunxin found a seat in the back row, then drank a beverage and ate popcorn.

Because it was a weekday, the theater was nearly empty. And even those few people weren't necessarily watching the same movie.

Yunxin bought an admission ticket and sat alone in the screening room, experiencing the joy of having the whole theater to herself.

She watched five movies in total. In the middle, she got hungry, went out to find a restaurant to eat, and then came back to continue watching.

By the time the last show was over, it was already 9 p.m.

"After watching five movies in a row, I feel much better." Yunxin strolled slowly towards her rented apartment.

The newly rented house is in an urban village.

That area is known as one of the city's poorest neighborhoods.

The area has many alleyways and a diverse population, so it's generally not recommended to leave your home after nightfall.

Yunxin is highly skilled and daring, unafraid of trouble, so she moves around outside with confidence.

As she walked, she realized something was wrong—there was a young woman, around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, wandering around alone late at night.

And the other person was dressed very beautifully.

She wore a knee-length skirt, leggings, and black boots. Her hair was dark brown and wavy, and upon closer inspection, she was wearing makeup.

Strolling through the alleyways and streets, they seemed completely unaware of the potential danger.
