As the banquet reached its climax, Gu Li was struck up a conversation with two strange men. Before she knew it, Chu Yaofeng had been lured away by Gu Qingqing. She raised her phoenix eyes and, with a casual glance, saw the handsome man and beautiful woman holding hands, chatting and laughing. The woman was overjoyed and leaned her head against his chest, seemingly unintentionally.
Gu Li held a glass of red wine that was more than half full, and she slowly drank it down, sip by sip. Finally, she curled her lips into a smile, her eyes holding a half-smile.
—We're all ancient foxes, why are you trying to play these ghost stories with me?
Trying to use Gu Qingqing to provoke and anger me, Chu Yaofeng, you underestimate my temper. I'm not angry. Why should I be jealous? I'm not jealous at all. Even if you put on a passionate show right in front of me, I won't even flinch.
Gu Li watched for a while, and Gu Qingqing became increasingly outrageous, even reaching into the lining of Chu Yaofeng's suit jacket. She narrowed her beautiful eyes, her fingers unconsciously digging into the flesh of her palms. She didn't feel any pain at all. She turned around, intending to find a quiet place out of sight to be alone for a while, but accidentally bumped into Gu Ziqian, who was walking towards her. Instinctively, Gu Ziqian reached out to support her waist, while she gripped his shirt tightly.
This scene caught Chu Yaofeng's deep eyes, and his expression immediately darkened with displeasure.
Gu Qingqing saw that he was smiling just a moment ago, but in the blink of an eye he became gloomy and terrifying. She didn't understand what had happened. When she saw his unpredictable gaze fixed on a certain spot, she looked over and saw a white figure nestled in her brother Gu Ziqian's arms.
"Shameless vixen, don't you even know your own worth? You think you can seduce my brother? My brother isn't blind." Gu Qingqing coldly curled the corner of her mouth and said with disdain, completely unaware that there was anything wrong with her last sentence.
Chu Yaofeng's gaze sharpened as he looked at her, but he said nothing.
"Distinguished guests and friends, thank you all for coming and for your blessings today. Now, please enjoy the entertainment that Mr. Gu has carefully arranged for you. Please give a round of applause to our guest performer – Why is the watermelon so round, little friend?" The emcee's infectious voice came through the microphone.
A thunderous round of applause erupted from the audience. Before the program even began, everyone was already laughing at the child's humorous name.
A small figure slowly walked to the center of the temporary stage amidst enthusiastic applause. He was playing the role of Spider-Man, with only a pair of big, round, bright eyes, two nostrils, and a small mouth showing. He stood up straight and then bowed at a ninety-degree angle. The little guy, who had received Western cultural education in London since childhood, was a true gentleman.
"The performance I'm going to give you is magic," the child said in a clear, confident voice.
Gu Li held her breath as she looked at the poised little guy standing on the stage. Even though he was masked and no one would recognize him, she was still worried. Perhaps it was because she felt guilty, but she couldn't help but overthink. What would happen if Chu Yaofeng found out about Chengcheng?
The more I thought about it, the more terrified I became.
Seeing that she was trembling, Gu Ziqian took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.
Gu Li simply smiled at him, deciding to play along. If he thought she was cold, then so be it.
Chu Yaofeng's originally indifferent gaze narrowed upon hearing the clear children's voice, and his body stiffened as well. The people around him could not perceive this subtle change, but Gu Qingqing, who was holding his arm, felt it clearly.
"Yaofeng, what's wrong with you?" Gu Qingqing looked at him, puzzled.
Chu Yaofeng ignored her words, his dark eyes, filled with emotion, staring intently at the person on the stage. After the little person finished speaking, staff members immediately carried a rectangular wooden cabinet, resembling a wardrobe, onto the stage.
"Ugh..." A gasp of disbelief suddenly filled the room.
Is this tiny little guy going to perform a magic trick of turning people into real beings?
