Chapter 189: Success or Failure

Chapter 189: Success or Failure

After Shen Yuexi asked Dr. Hua, she finally understood what had happened.

When General Jia first captured them, he was indeed very ferocious. However, Dr. Hua, a skilled physician, could tell at a glance that General Jia was ill. He explained this to General Jia, but he refused to believe it, believing he was healthy and could not possibly be ill. Only after Dr. Hua pointed out some of the symptoms he was showing did General Jia finally believe him.

After believing it, General Jia begged Doctor Hua to treat him, but Doctor Hua said that only Shen Yuexi had the prescription.

Shen Yuexi understood. These people were always hanging out with sick armadillos, so many of them probably had leprosy without even realizing it. This disease had an incubation period, so even if they looked fine, they were already sick.

She transformed herself from a hunted person into a doctor.

The soldiers in the village came to ask Dr. Hua for a diagnosis. He found that half of them had been infected with Mycobacterium leprae, but were still in the incubation period.

Knowing that he would become like a demon in the future, not only did General Jia beg her, but even the sick soldiers knelt on the ground.

Shen Yuexi hadn't intended to treat them. These people knew they were harming others, yet they refused to stop. They deserved their illness. Then she thought, there were hundreds of them. If she refused them, if they got angry and started violence, she wouldn't be able to stop them.

I pulled Qiang Lin over to discuss it privately, and Qiang Lin also agreed to appease this group of people first.

Shen Yuexi comforted General Jia kindly, saying that she did not have the prescription and had to go back to Yongwei to get the medicine. She wondered if General Jia was willing to go with her.

"Go, why not?" General Jia jumped up and pointed at Nanfang, cursing, "Xiao Kai, you son of a bitch! I've suffered so much here for over two years without any reward, and you've even made me sick... I've finally seen through you."

The sick soldiers also felt the same way. Only Shen Yuexi could cure their illnesses, and they had no choice but to follow Shen Yuexi.

Everyone packed up their luggage. Since Xiao Kai would not allow General Jia to go back anyway, they decided not to go south to join the army, but to follow Shen Yuexi to Yongwei.

One hundred Jingzhou cavalrymen escorted the carriage and set off towards Longsheng Town.

"Madam Shen, you know that our Jingzhou army of 200,000 is here," General Jia said to Shen Yuexi, riding a horse beside the carriage. "We don't want to join Xiliang. If you cure our illness, we will leave."

Shen Yuexi understood his thoughts. Joining Xiliang meant fighting against Xiao Kai's army. They only wanted to protect themselves.

As long as they return to Yongwei, with the protection of the Xiliang army, these few people will no longer be a threat.

She said to General Jia, "General, I understand your intentions. When you arrive in Yongwei, you don't have to go into the city. Find a place to stay on your own. I'll prepare the medicine and send it to you."

"How long will it take to cure?" General Jia was still worried.

"It can be cured in seven to fourteen days, a month at the latest." Shen Yuexi turned back and checked with Doctor Hua. With experience treating severe Meipu cases, she was fully confident in treating these patients who were still in the incubation period.

"I haven't eaten yet. Let's take a rest when we get to Longsheng Town." Li Wan interrupted.

After she saw Madam Li, the mother and daughter hugged each other and cried. Shen Yuexi was busy dealing with General Jia and the sick soldiers at the time and had no time to talk to them.

Now that Li Wan had calmed down, she immediately wanted to eat again.

"Anyway, there's food in Longsheng Town. We can get there before dark," Shen Yuexi said to Li Wan, "We can rest there for a night before continuing on our journey."

"Let's hurry up," General Jia urged. "You're not cold in the carriage, so why do you need to rest? We're all riding horses and we're not cold either."

Shen Yuexi knew that he was anxious for her to treat him, so he urged her. But in order to appease these people, he casually agreed:

"General, since you are so anxious, let's buy some food to eat on the way."

Just as he finished speaking to General Jia, Qiang Lin came chasing after him, saying nervously, "Master, the Jingzhou cavalry are chasing us."

"Jingzhou Cavalry?"

Shen Yuexi and General Jia both turned around and looked towards the south in surprise.

Without Qiang Lin's explanation, they all felt the ground shaking slightly.

"Madam Shen, the general's cavalry is here." General Jia looked at the smoke rising from the south.

The group of people escorting the carriage were not moving very fast, and the Jingzhou cavalry galloped at full speed and soon caught up with them.

From inside the carriage, Shen Yuexi could hear the rumbling of hooves outside, the ground shaking. She couldn't tell how many cavalrymen had passed them. She looked at Madam Li and Li Wan, who were once again embracing each other, like ostriches. Doctor Hua, on the other hand, had his head bowed, a look of worry on his face.

The sound of horses neighing could be heard outside the carriage, followed by a strange man's voice: "General Jia, why are you acting alone instead of joining the army?"

General Jia chuckled and said, "So it's General Zhang. Didn't His Royal Highness order me to do something here? He...he has another secret order, ordering me to go to Yongwei and deliver another batch of armadillos to the Prince of Xiliang."

"Where's your armadillo? Why can't I see it?" asked the strange man.

Shen Yuexi's heart tightened.

General Jia can't even lie well. It will be troublesome if the other party finds out their true intentions.

"I have asked the soldiers to take the armadillo first, and I will set off... later." General Jia tried his best to support himself.

"What are you thinking, General?" the strange man asked. "Our Jingzhou army is about to wipe out Xiliang. Why would you send us an armadillo?"

"That's right. I don't know what the general is thinking either." General Jia echoed, "It's just that the general has given an order, and I dare not disobey."

"Since it is the general's order, then you can proceed. Zhang will take his leave first."

The sound of hooves rang out, gradually becoming smaller as we moved forward.

"Hey, General Zhang, wait a minute," General Jia called out. "Where are you going with all these cavalrymen? Are you planning a surprise attack on Yongwei City?"

"General Jia, are you kidding?" a strange man's voice came from afar. "How can our cavalry attack a city? We are following the commander's orders to clear the town ahead first to prevent anyone from informing the Xiliang army."

Clean it up?

Shen Yuexi's heart was shocked. This sounded unlucky.

After General Zhang led the Jingzhou cavalry to leave, Shen Yuexi opened the car window and asked General Jia, "What did General Zhang mean by cleanup?"

General Jia didn't dare to answer and urged, "Let's go quickly."

Seeing him hesitant, Shen Yuexi went to the other end of the carriage to ask Qiang Lin what he meant. Qiang Lin whispered, "They want to exterminate everyone in Longsheng Town."

Li Wan looked up in shock. "How cruel! How could they be so cruel?"

Shen Yuexi also deeply felt the same way.

"The Jingzhou Army is planning a surprise attack this time. If the Xiliang Army learns of this, it will be meaningless," Qiang Lin sighed. "In war, victory is achieved by any means necessary."

Shen Yuexi had seen it many times and could understand it, but she felt a little sad.

When war breaks out, the first to suffer are the ordinary people who have no power to resist. If the world were unified, without these separatist princes, perhaps the world would not be so chaotic.

The carriage hurried on for a while and arrived at Longsheng Town before dark.

The once bustling town of Longsheng was now deserted, a dead town. All sorts of debris littered the deserted streets. Horse hoof prints and bloodstains littered the landscape.

Shen Yuexi didn't want to see these cruel things, so she urged the carriage to leave quickly.

Unexpectedly, just after leaving the town, the convoy was stopped by a cavalry group led by the same General Zhang.

"General Jia, I'm sorry," General Zhang said, bowing on his horse. "I just received an order from the commander-in-chief. To ensure that no one can tip off the Xiliang army, no one is allowed to pass through here."

"Asshole, I was following orders from the general," General Jia roared. "Can you handle the consequences of delaying orders?"

"Our Jingzhou army of 200,000 is also under the command of the general to attack Xiliang," General Zhang said. "I believe you, General, can clearly distinguish between 200,000 troops and a cart of armadillos. The commander-in-chief has issued an order, and I apologize for the offense."

After saying this, General Zhang waved his hand without further ado: "Five hundred cavalrymen, escort General Jia and his entourage back to reunite with the main army."

Everyone in the car was speechless after hearing this.

Shen Yuexi knew that she could only follow the Jingzhou cavalry and act accordingly. She called General Jia over and told him her intentions.

General Jia was still unconvinced and complained, "If the general finds out, General Zhang, you will be held responsible. I'm not disobeying orders."

While they were arguing, a famous soldier came running over and said, "General Zhang, there's a group of Xiliang cavalry coming!"

"How is it possible? We've been discovered... Let's go and meet the enemy!"

Taking advantage of the panic of the Jingzhou cavalry, Shen Yuexi's convoy immediately slipped away.
