Chapter 38 The Man in Purple

Chapter 38 The Man in Purple

When the accident happened, Shen Yuexi was admiring the scenery outside through the car window.

The oxcart was passing through a secluded and quiet valley. The mountain blocked the western sunlight, and the surroundings became dark. The oxcart moved slowly in the shadows.

Although she had walked this way several times, she felt a little uncomfortable this time.

Without sunshine, the trees on the hillside became gloomy and even the air had a chilly taste.

There was not a single pedestrian on the road, and there was neither cicada chirping nor bird singing in the woods. It was as if all the small animals had left, and the silence was unsettling.

"My grandson was too sleepy to get up this morning," Doctor Hua said with a smile as he poured tea, "so I had to hire a driver temporarily..."

There was a muffled "bang" sound from the carriage wall, as if the driver's head had hit it.

Shen Yuexi's heart skipped a beat and she turned to look at Doctor Hua who was sitting opposite her.

The sudden noise made her previous uneasiness even more intense.

Doctor Hua looked bewildered. He put down the teapot, patted the carriage, and shouted, "What happened? Why did it stop so suddenly?"

There was no response, but there was the sound of something heavy falling to the ground.

Shen Yuexi and Dr. Hua looked at each other and saw the shock in each other's eyes.

The two of them stood up and opened the door almost at the same time. Shen Yuexi was the first to jump out of the car. She walked around the open door and saw the driver lying under the shaft of the ox cart with his back to her.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Shen Yuexi thought the driver was having an emergency like a heart attack, so she ran over, squatted down, grabbed the driver's shoulders, and turned him over.

When she saw it, she was so scared that she almost sat on the ground.

There was a feather arrow stuck in the driver's left eye, and blood was dripping down the arrow shaft onto the ground.

Having experienced the massacre at the temple and the enemy's pursuit, Shen Yuexi was only panicked for a moment before quickly calming down. No matter who shot the arrow, the driver must be rescued immediately. She turned around and called out:

"Doctor Hua, this man has been shot by an arrow!"

Doctor Hua had come close. He pulled up his sleeve, extended two fingers, and tested the driver's nose, then placed them on his neck. A look of sorrow flashed in his eyes, and he shook his head.

The bushes on the hillside rustled, and several figures flashed out, walking down the hillside towards the ox cart.

Doctor Hua took a look, nervously held onto the shaft of the cart, and whispered to her:

"It's...it's the bandits."

Shen Yuexi's heart tightened. They actually encountered bandits in broad daylight.

Feng Zhang had mentioned before that there were bandits causing trouble in this area, but she had forgotten about it as nothing had happened since she came here.

Four men came down the hillside, all of them strong and muscular, holding gleaming broadswords. They all wore coarse cloth with short collars, their chests exposed, and their faces were filled with fierceness, making it clear at first glance that they were not good people.

The leading bandit had a tumor on his forehead. He walked in front, carrying a bow behind him.

The first person Shen Yuexi thought of was Xiao Zhuo. If only her husband were right there... But the truth was, Xiao Zhuo wasn't with her, and Doctor Hua was a frail old man. She had to find a way to protect herself.

"Don't resist, they only want money, give them all the money..."

As Doctor Hua spoke, he reached into his pocket to take out his purse. His hand stopped midway. His eyes fell on Shen Yuexi's face in horror, then looked at the bandits walking down the hillside with a look of fear, and whispered:

"Hurry... hurry back to the carriage."

Shen Yuexi naturally understood why Dr. Hua was so panicked.

The original owner was extremely beautiful, but the bandits were ruthless killers who didn't care about rules. Once they saw a beautiful woman, they wouldn't let her go.

In her previous life, she had been a researcher, not an agent, much less a killer. Facing four villains, she had no chance of victory. Her only option was to avoid being seen by them.

There is open space all around, and the only place to hide is in the carriage.

Shen Yuexi quickly ran back to the car, closed the door with her backhand, and locked the door with trembling hands. She tried several times before finally inserting the latch.

At this time, the bandits' laughter could be heard outside the carriage. One of them said:

"Brother, this old man is quite sensible. He prepared the money himself."

"Your Majesty, I am a doctor. This is all the money we have. Please, Your Majesty, have mercy on me."

The sound of shaking purses came from outside the carriage.

"Since that's what you've said, then let's not make things difficult for this doctor. If he really kills us, who will treat us if we have a headache or fever in the future?"

"That's right, big brother is right."

"I thank you... Your Majesty for not killing me."

Another bandit's voice rang out: "Brother, someone just ran into the car, and from what I heard, it was a woman."

"Female?"

Huddled in a corner of the carriage away from the door, Shen Yuexi, who was painting her face with ink, suddenly stopped and felt her heart skip a beat.

The bandits heard her turn around and call for Doctor Hua.

"Your Majesty, that is..." Doctor Hua's voice just sounded, and then it stopped abruptly with a muffled sound.

"This old man actually dared to stop us."

The bandits' evil laughter rang out from behind the car door, and then the door banged twice, but it couldn't be opened because the latch was locked.

Shen Yuexi felt as if something was blocking her chest and she couldn't breathe.

The tiny latch on the car door was no match for the bandits. They would burst in any moment.

She reached into her bosom and tightly grasped the knife. If the bandits broke into the carriage, she would fight them with her life.

This knife was a scalpel that Da Xiong had made in the cave when she and Xiao Zhuo were fleeing. It was incredibly sharp. If she took advantage of the other party's carelessness, it wouldn't be impossible to stab them to death. As for what would happen next, she hadn't considered it yet.

The car window rolled up, revealing the face of a man with a fierce look and a tumor on his forehead. It was the bandit leader. He looked at Shen Yuexi like a wolf looking at its cornered prey.

"Open the door, or else..."

He had only said half of his words when Shen Yuexi had already thrust out the knife.

Opening the door would definitely not have any good consequences, so she thought it would be better to strike first.

The knife's impact was unexpected. The bandit leader let out a sharp scream, shielding his eyes with his hands as he retreated. The knife was lodged in his left eye, and blood trickled down through his fingers.

"Ah...kill her," the bandit leader roared outside the car, "Kill her!"

As soon as Shen Yuexi's eyes fell on the two closed car doors, she heard a "ding" sound. Half of a sharp blade penetrated from the upper part of the door and cut down. The thin latch was bent in an instant. Another blow would surely smash it open.

Shen Yuexi was thinking rapidly in her mind.

The universal manufacturing machine cannot harm life, so expecting it to kill directly is impossible. The bandit leader told them to kill her, and to kill someone, they had to use a knife. All they had to do was have Big Bear use up all the raw materials for the four knives and the small knife in an instant.

"Big Bear, please help me make..."

My mind was full of knives, and I couldn't think of anything else for a moment. But what kind of knife would use so much iron?

"Green Dragon Crescent Blade!" she blurted out.

"Dear Master, I'm collecting the raw materials needed for the Azure Dragon Crescent Blade... Progress 40%... 60%..."

There were unanimous screams from the bandits outside the carriage.

"Where's the knife?"

"Where's my knife?"

"Damn it!"

"60%... 60%... Dear Master, insufficient raw materials, production is interrupted."

"Stop making it." Shen Yuexi put her hand on her chest and let out a long sigh. Big Bear couldn't make it, which meant there was no more iron left.

The carriage door was opened with a bang, and the bandit leader appeared at the door in a rage, stepping on the pedal of the carriage.

"Kill you!"

The knife in his left eye had disappeared, half of his face was covered in blood, and he roared as he stretched out his hands to grab Shen Yuexi.

In Shen Yuexi's eyes, these blood-stained hands were the chains of impermanence that would take her life.

With nowhere to retreat, she lifted the teapot from the table with both hands and was about to smash it at the bandit leader. Suddenly, a purple shadow flashed outside. A sharp, cold sword tip suddenly emerged from the bandit leader's throat, then flashed away, leaving a terrible wound on his throat.

The bandit leader suddenly stopped, clutching his hands at his neck, his throat gurgling as he turned away. Blood gushed out of his throat like a fountain, spraying onto the car door and the ground like spilled red dye.

As the bandit collapsed to the ground, a young man emerged.

The man wore a purple, embroidered robe. His face was as handsome as a jade, his figure was upright, and his clear eyes and brows shone with elegance and shrewdness. He held a long sword pointed at the ground, a string of blood dripping slowly from the blade.

Behind him, the other three bandits had fallen to the ground and died, all of them stabbed in the throat.

Four corpses surrounded the man in the center, front, back, left and right.

Shen Yuexi was stunned.

This man actually killed four bandits in the blink of an eye.
