Chapter 49: Mutated Hot Pot

The sun was about to set and the lighting in the room was not very good.

Ye Erniang put down her embroidery, rubbed her sore eyes and said:

"Okay, that's all for today! You've ruined your eyes. Go out for a walk and relax your eyes."

Wen Xi put it down reluctantly and packed up the results of the afternoon's work.

He stretched out his arms and asked:

"Master, what ingredients do you have here? I'll prepare dinner."

"Just some cabbage and radishes, and maybe a piece of pork. Oh, and the things you brought. What do you need? I'll go out and buy some."

Wen Xi shook her head.

"That's all! There's not much to buy. Master, take a rest. I'll go make dinner."

Wen Xi came to the kitchen. Although it was small, it had everything ready.

First, I took out the things I had brought from home this morning. Mao was coming, so I took some meatballs from Chinese New Year, some fried food for breakfast, and a roll of lamb.

Looking at the mutton roll, I thought of this winter and the popular mutton hotpot. I must make it for Master today.

Without touching the main stove, I went to the small stove, found a casserole, cleaned it, and put it on top. I added water and lit the fire.

He also quietly threw some red dates, wolfberries and dried ginger slices from the coffin into the pot.

I found half a cabbage, a small white radish, and a scallion in the cupboard.

Wen Xi first cut the green onions into sections and put them in the pot, then washed the vegetables. She then cut the cabbage into chunks and the radish into chunks about a finger's width thick.

Pour the meatballs into an empty bowl, take out the mutton rolls, and try to cut them into thin slices.

Worried it wouldn't be enough, I kneaded a little more dough and prepared to roll some noodles. Not much, just a handful, mainly to give it some variety.

Then I prepared a bowl of dipping sauce. There was no chili, no sesame paste, nothing at all. I really tried my best. I spent the entire winter developing the ultimate dipping sauce. I'll definitely upgrade it when I get the chance.

The ingredients were ready, and the water was boiling. Wen Xi simply added a little salt, tossed in the slightly fatty lamb slices, and then the radish. She kept the lid on and waited for the radish to release its fragrance before adding the cabbage and meatballs.

After the water boils, add the noodles. When they are almost cooked, pour in all the mutton.

A variation of hot pot—a hodgepodge! After all, two people can't eat by the stove!

Ye Erniang came out following the smell of fragrance.

"Wow, I never realized you're such a talented little girl. What delicious food are you going to make?"

Wen Xi found a wooden board and looked up.

"You'll know after you eat it. It's just right, you can help me carry the casserole into the house. I'm afraid I won't be strong enough and will drop it."

Ye Erniang obediently found two pieces of coarse cloth to pad the ears and held it up. Wen Xi stepped forward and quickly put the wooden board on the table, and then Ye Erniang put the pot on the board.

Curious:

"Why do you need to carry the pot when eating? I have plenty of bowls and plates at home!"

Wen Xi smiled mysteriously, didn't answer, and ran back to the kitchen to bring in the bowls, chopsticks and dipping sauce.

When the lid of the casserole is opened, the aroma becomes even stronger.

Wen Xi put two spoonfuls of dipping sauce in the two people's bowls, and picked up a piece of meatballs, radish and mutton for Ye Erniang.

"Master, try it. Remember to get some sauce on it."

Then Wen Xi picked up a large amount of noodles and radish for herself with her chopsticks.

Ye Erniang was a little curious about eating like this and was looking forward to the taste. Anyway, everything she had eaten was more delicious than what she cooked.

Once I started eating, I couldn't stop. I didn't need Wen Xi's help at all. If the ingredients were gone, I'd pick some more, and if the sauce was gone, I'd just fill it with stuffing sauce.

If Wen Xi ate one-fifth, then Ye Erniang definitely ate four-fifths.

I even drank the soup in the end.

Wen Xi had no idea his master had such a big appetite. He was such a big eater!

Ye Erniang wiped her mouth with a look of unsatisfied feeling:

"Is it mutton? It's surprisingly not smelly. It's different from what I'm used to. Not bad, I like it very much. You have a talent for cooking. In the future... cough! Work hard."

"Hehe, as long as Master likes it, but aren't you full?"

Ye Erniang was a little embarrassed, thinking that she had left a gluttonous impression on her apprentice:

"Well, I'm a little full. I'm going out for a walk. You're tired, so remember to rest early. I've prepared bedding for you."

After saying that, I couldn't wait to go out.
