"Young master, what do you think of the chicken feet?"
A Yuan cautiously asked her young master, Sun Chengen, who surprisingly did not turn hostile but instead nodded calmly.
When the skewers were served, Sun Chengen's actions spoke louder than his words.
The roasted pork belly, brushed with barbecue sauce, was crispy and fragrant. Sun Chengen took a bite and nodded unconsciously.
The second bite of cucumber slice neutralized the greasiness of the grilled meat; it was neither particularly good nor bad.
The third bite was followed by another bite of grilled meat, and it was impossible to stop.
The fourth bite was a single clove of garlic, which was surprisingly soft, tender, and refreshing.
Sun Chengen had just finished his first skewer when A Yuan handed him another one, but A Yuan didn't touch it himself.
The others each tried one skewer and didn't take any more.
Sun Chengen glanced at the plate, then handed the skewers back to A Yuan, saying, "Young Master, I'm full. You can have these!"
Ruan Meng heard this and slightly curved the corners of her lips.
From afar came the second brother's joyful voice, "What is this?"
"How is my sister so amazing? She's always inventing delicious things!"
"Oh my god! I'm so happy! What have I done to deserve such a wonderful sister!"
He walked up to the nearest third brother, grabbed his shoulders, and shook him vigorously. "Isn't that right? Third brother, don't you think so?"
The third brother said indifferently, "Third brother, you're right, but don't say anything more!"
"Why?"
The third brother asked in shock.
"I'm ashamed!"
The third brother suppressed a laugh and shook his head a couple more times, "I'm praising my sister, what are you ashamed of?!"
The people around them were amused by the two of them. Ruan Meng handed him the half roasted chicken foot that she had left behind from inside the house.
"Second brother, this is for you. Three chickens, half a chicken each."
The second child widened his eyes and exaggeratedly said, "Isn't that right? I told you, I have the best sister in the whole world!"
Unbeknownst to anyone, the person next to him had a dimmed gaze and looked somewhat forlorn.
A Yuan looked at her young master with concern.
Ruan Meng reminded, "The one for Second Brother was left out a bit cold. It would be even more fragrant and delicious fresh out of the oven."
"It's okay, it was my sister who made it, and they're all delicious!"
The second son, always eager to please, put the chicken foot in his mouth, his attitude surprisingly less exaggerated than before.
After politely spitting out the bone, the second brother said, "Even though it's cold, it's still so delicious. My sister is amazing!"
"The flavor is richer and more mouthwatering than the previous braised chicken feet. Even with rice, a few braised chicken feet might become too rich..."
"But even if my second brother doesn't eat rice, he can still eat half a plate of these roasted chicken feet!"
The second son's praise was more specific and included comparisons, which softened Ruan Meng's heart. This was probably the most encouraging praise a cook could receive.
"Second brother, haven't I been good to you?"
Ruan Meng suddenly leaned closer and asked her second brother.
The second son was taken aback. "Is that even a question? Of course my sister is good to me!"
"No, Second Brother doesn't know! I can be even better to Second Brother!"
Ruan Meng turned around with a smile and said mysteriously:
"I saved some good food for my second brother, but my eldest and third brothers didn't get any!"
The second child, innocent and naive, widened his eyes, somewhat overjoyed, "Really?"
Ruan Meng picked up the pot. "When have I ever lied to you?"
The second son thought about it, but really couldn't remember.
Third brother: Second brother, you need to be more careful!
Have you forgotten your past frights, half of which were from insects, snakes, and seafood, and the other half from your sister's "surprise"?
When the younger sister said that she had saved a surprise for her second brother, the third brother wasn't envious at all.
If it's really something good, even if she doesn't get a share, wouldn't her sister give it to her older brother and sister-in-law?
Sigh! Why is it that my second brother always seems to be bewitched by his sister?
The eldest sister-in-law sighed, suppressed a laugh, shook her head, and walked away.
Xiao Kai turned his back and chuckled silently.
Clearly, he knew quite a lot.
Sun Chengen frowned slightly, looked at the group of people, and then turned his gaze to the stone house.
When the second son couldn't resist going in to check, Ruan Meng had already poached the pig brains and added Sichuan peppercorn powder, Sichuan peppercorn powder, oyster sauce, and salt to season them, perfectly masking the fishy smell.
When Ruan Meng served it to him, the pig brain had been cooked and was no longer recognizable. When the second son asked about it, Ruan Meng smiled but did not answer.
The second son scooped up a spoonful, put it in his mouth, and was overjoyed.
"Little sister! This is so smooth and fragrant, just like tofu pudding!"
Ruan Meng smiled as usual. The third brother had a conscience; he ate half a bowl in one go and planned to leave the other half for his younger brother.
Between satisfying his urge to talk and saving his life, the third brother chose to save his life.
Although he knew his sister wouldn't harm them, he didn't want to vomit uncontrollably later...
My sister's sweet smile is definitely a sign of something fishy!
