Li Molin, leading a group of men in black, stopped for the third time and asked with some helplessness, "Miss Liuli, is this place alright?"
"No way!" Liuli said coldly, her tone unfriendly. "Let me tell you, I know this forest like the back of my hand. How far have you gone? It's not even ten miles! Hmph, don't try to fool me!"
Li Molin's brow twitched, and he muttered under his breath with a sullen face, "A fox borrowing the tiger's might!"
Left with no other choice, they walked quite a distance before Liuli reluctantly agreed to let them stop. So the demons split up and formed three circles, lit three bonfires, and under Li Molin's instructions, some of them hunted some game and roasted it over the fires.
Instead of returning to Fox Plains, Liuli floated lightly up to the branch of a large tree, gazing at the starry sky through the gaps in the leaves, her dangling legs swaying gently.
Li Molin sat by the fire with two men in black, looked up at her leisurely appearance, and couldn't help but smile faintly. This little girl... is quite interesting.
Soon, the aroma of roasted meat wafted through the air, and Liuli inhaled it, swallowing hard. Looking down, she saw the roasted meat glistening in the firelight in the hands of the men in black; judging from the way they were tearing into it, it must be incredibly delicious.
Liuli stared wide-eyed, her mind in turmoil for a while, before finally floating down to the fire where Li Molin and the other two were, looking pitifully at the roasting meat on the fire.
Li Molin narrowed his eyes, deliberately ignoring her, and continued eating his grilled meat, the chewing sounds seeming to grow louder. The other two men in black glanced at Liuli, then at him, and seeing that he didn't intend to speak, they also silently ate their grilled meat.
After a long silence from the three of them, Liuli looked at Li Molin with some annoyance and said angrily, "You guys are so rude, don't you even know how to offer me a piece of food?"
Li Molin couldn't help but chuckle softly. The firelight reflected his smile, making his face appear somewhat gentle, quite different from usual. The two men in black beside the fire exchanged a glance, both showing a hint of surprise in their eyes.
Li Molin shook his head and said calmly, "If you want to eat, just take it yourself."
Liuli carefully reached out and took the whole roasted rabbit off the fire. Forgetting her hostility towards Li Molin, she stared at the roasted meat and asked, "Is this roasted rabbit cooked? Can we eat it?"
"Eat up." Li Molin said with a smile in his eyes, "It should be cooked by now."
Liuli kept blowing on the grilled meat, and as soon as a small piece of meat cooled down a bit, she couldn't wait to take a bite. Mmm, it tasted good, fragrant and tender, with a slightly crispy skin.
She immediately beamed and started eating the roasted meat. While eating, she no longer found Li Molin so annoying. She mumbled between bites, "I used to see hunters roasting meat in the forest. It smelled so good, but my grandmother wouldn't let me appear in front of humans, so I couldn't ask them for a piece to eat..."
"I tried to grill it myself a few times, but it didn't taste good at all. It had no flavor at all, and it wasn't even as good as the raw meat I ate when I was a child. It didn't smell good either."
She looked up at Li Molin, tearing at the grilled meat as she spoke, her appearance anything but graceful. But Li Molin watched her eat in silence, his eyes growing warmer and warmer, filled with a gentle smile.
"Hey, tell me," Liuli mumbled, "My grilling technique is the same as yours, so why doesn't it taste good?"
Li Molin picked up a piece of dry firewood and threw it into the fire, teasingly saying, "Because you're stupid!"
Liuli glared at him angrily and then focused all her attention on the roasted rabbit meat in front of her.
As the night grew deeper, the dozen or so men in black finished their barbecue, talked loudly for a while, and then went to sleep one after another.
Liuli quickly finished the whole roasted rabbit. She clapped her hands and said contentedly, "It was so delicious. I'm going to sleep now."
Li Molin glanced at her and asked calmly, "Are you going back to Fox Plains?"
"I'm not going back!" Liuli glared at him, stood up, flew to the top of a tall tree trunk, and sat down steadily. A voice came from afar, saying, "I'm going to keep an eye on you."
Li Molin shook his head and smiled. The flames crackled softly as they burned, and the warm firelight made his eyes feel warmer as well.
