Chapter 292 Even in Dire Straits

Lingxi wiped away her tears with her bare hands. She opened her eyes and looked at Liu Lingying, her voice low and hoarse, and said, "I just heard you mention Lin'er. I know you are Li Molin's mother, right?"

Liu Lingying paused in her search of ancient books, turned to look at Lingxi, and asked, "How did you know? Oh, right, you and your sister used to be with Lin'er, right?"

“Yes.” Lingxi nodded and said, “You are Young Master Li’s mother, so you must save my sister. Otherwise, if my sister dies, Young Master Li will be devastated.”

"Oh?" Liu Lingying raised an eyebrow slightly.

Lingxi explained, "Sister is the only woman Young Master Li has ever loved. Over the years, whenever Sister has been in danger, Young Master Li has always risked his life to save her. Even when Sister was killed before, Young Master Li risked half his own life to save her. So, Sister is Young Master Li's half life. If you feel sorry for Young Master Li, then save Sister."

Liu Lingying looked thoughtful and said, "So Lin'er gave up half of his life force for her sake?"

Lingxi looked at Liu Lingying with anticipation and repeated, "So, sister can't die."

Liu Lingying slowly withdrew her hand from the books on the bookshelf. She lowered her eyes and pondered for a while, then said in a low voice, "If that's the case, then she really can't die, otherwise wouldn't half of Lin'er's life force be lost in vain?"

As she said this, she looked up at Lingxi and said calmly, "You can't even protect yourself, and you're still thinking about saving your sister?"

Lingxi slowly closed her eyes and whispered, "Go and save my sister quickly. If you are any later, Liang Yihan will definitely kill her."

Liu Lingying sighed softly and said, "You are a good girl, and you have a connection with Han'er. If it weren't for Lin'er, I really wouldn't have the heart to kill you."

“Liang Yihan?” Lingxi gave a self-deprecating laugh: “What connection? I have no feelings for him anymore. Compared to the power and status he pursues, I am utterly insignificant in his heart.”

Liu Lingying paused for a moment and said, "When Han'er first came up the mountain, he often mentioned to me a tabby cat he had when he was a child. He said that the tabby cat was his very good playmate, and he said that it would be great if he could bring that tabby cat up the mountain. Unfortunately, the sect has strict rules and disciples are not allowed to go down the mountain unless there is a reason. He is extremely talented and has a high ambition. He only cares about cultivation and has put this matter aside time and time again."

Perhaps realizing she was about to die, Lingxi longed to speak the words hidden deep within her heart. So she looked up at Liu Lingying, her eyes filled with sorrow and self-mockery, and slowly said, "He always said I was his best playmate, his confidante, but in reality, he could abandon me at any time. Years ago, in his quest for immortality, he simply left me behind. When he left, I desperately tried to stop him, but he still left. He told me he would come back to see me, so I waited and waited under the crabapple tree, until my life was almost over, until I was old and frail, but he still didn't return!"

"You can't understand what it feels like to wait so long. I started waiting at sunrise and waited until sunset, watching the crabapple blossoms bloom and fade, year after year. Every time I went to sleep, I would imagine that when I opened my eyes, he would be right in front of me, but every time I woke up, he wasn't there. Those repeated expectations and disappointments continued until I finally despaired!"

"Later, Langyuan found me and, just as I was about to die of old age, released the seal on me. I concealed my spirit cat aura and transformed into an ordinary cat demon. I traveled thousands of miles to Qingxu Mountain, circling the mountains for a long time, but I didn't know how to find him. With my sister's help, I finally saw him. I thought he would be very happy, I thought he would, like me, only want to see each other one more time. But he didn't recognize me..."

“Heh…” Lingxi chuckled softly, but warm tears kept sliding down her cheeks. Her voice was slightly choked as she said hoarsely, “Compared to his ruthlessness, my insistence on seeing him one more time is utterly ridiculous.”

Liu Lingying listened quietly to Lingxi's words, her heart filled with pity. From Lingxi's narration, she could imagine the scene, the expectation and disappointment, and even the despair.

Thinking this, Liu Lingying felt even more reluctant to kill Lingxi and take her inner core. She remained silent for a while, then sighed, "Never mind, I'll go check on your sister first."

Lingxi wiped away her tears and said in a choked voice, "Thank you for saving my sister."

Liu Lingying shook her head and walked away slowly.

After Liu Lingying left, Lingxi buried her head deeply and let out a muffled sobbing.

Then, a familiar sound of footsteps echoed in the quiet hall and quickly stopped in front of her. Lingxi hesitated, then looked up, and through her blurry, tear-filled eyes, she saw Liang Yihan right in front of her.

Lingxi watched as Liang Yihan slowly squatted down. Then, he gently lifted her up, and the blue ropes binding her quietly disappeared the moment his hands touched her body.

Tears still streamed down Lingxi's face. Her mouth was slightly open as she stared blankly at Liang Yihan's face getting closer and closer, and his scent filled her nostrils—a clean, familiar smell that felt strange at the same time.

Liang Yihan held Lingxi in his arms, pressing his forehead against her small face. His eyes were half-closed, his eyes were red, and his face was full of self-reproach.

“I’m sorry, Ahua.” Liang Yihan’s voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of sobs, “I’m sorry I gave you up for my own dreams, I’m sorry I made you wait for me for so long, I’m sorry I didn’t acknowledge you when you came to me…”

Liang Yihan hadn't left the alchemy room after leaving; he had been hiding outside waiting for an opportunity. As a result, he heard Lingxi's words clearly and felt extremely guilty.

Lingxi stared blankly at Liang Yihan's face, which was so close to hers. Because they were so close, the tears that were falling from his eyes looked even clearer, and she could even feel the temperature of those tears, which were unusually hot.

“Ahua…” Liang Yihan’s voice choked with sobs as he said with self-reproach, “I, Liang Yihan, have let you down too much.”

Lingxi closed her eyes in silence, greedily inhaling his scent, savoring this long-lost fragrance.

A moment later, Liang Yihan slowly stood up, held Lingxi in his arms, and said in a low voice, "I'll let you go now, Ahua."

Lingxi looked up at him from his arms and remained silent.

Liang Yihan looked down at her, his face still streaked with tears, yet a gentle smile appeared on his face.

This smile gave Lingxi the illusion that time had suddenly turned back, and that the boy from many years ago had finally returned.

Liang Yihan stopped talking, picked up Lingxi, and hurriedly rushed out of the alchemy room. It was late at night, and the entire Yuandao Sect was unusually quiet. Liang Yihan walked quickly along the widest path among the many wooden houses.
