Liuli gave a cold laugh, but when she turned her head and saw the sincere expression on Shichan's face, most of the sarcasm in her heart unconsciously dissipated. His expression was so sincere that she had to believe that he was not saying these words for the sake of Buddhism, but truly for her.
But in an instant, Liuli thought of her own death, of the corpses and blood on Fox Plain. Hatred quickly took over her heart. She smiled coldly and said in a chilling voice, "As long as all the bald monks of your Buddhist sect are dead, I will have no hatred and live a carefree life!"
Shi Chan sighed softly and said in a low voice, "Young lady, when will this cycle of revenge end? Only by letting go of hatred can you transcend this world and escape the sea of suffering."
Liuli sneered, "You're trying to persuade me like this, aren't you? You want me to give up my hatred and let your Buddhist sect go? Let me tell you, that's absolutely impossible. As long as I, Liuli, am alive, I swear to kill all the bald monks in the world and avenge the thousands of lives on Fox Plain!"
Shi Chan lowered his eyes, his face filled with sorrow. He paused for a long while, then raised his eyes earnestly and said, "If I were to die alone... no, if I were to be killed by you, young lady, and if you were to grind my body to dust and scatter my ashes, and even if my soul were to be destroyed without seeking liberation or reincarnation, would the annihilation of my soul and spirit allow you to give up your hatred and live happily ever after?"
Liuli was startled, her expression one of astonishment. She stared at Shichan in disbelief, trying to find even the slightest hint of hypocrisy or deception on his face, but there was none. His expression was so sincere, it seemed as if he were truly speaking from the bottom of his heart.
But why did he say that, and why did he have such thoughts? What was the purpose of his self-sacrifice? Was it for Buddhism? Or for... her, Liuli?
