Beyond the golden light shield protecting Liuli and Shichan, thick, dark clouds filled the sky, flashing lightning and rumbling thunder, while torrential rain poured down, churning the sea into turbulent waves along with the fierce winds. The scene was truly terrifying; the wrath of heaven and earth had reached such a level.
Holding the glass, Shi Chan flew slowly forward. He didn't know how much time had passed when, through the rain, a flash of golden light suddenly appeared in the distance. In the blink of an eye, the light vanished. For a moment, Shi Chan thought it was just an illusion, but as he looked closer, he vaguely saw the silhouette of a mountain in that direction. With a renewed sense of certainty, Shi Chan quickly increased his speed and flew towards it.
This is a small island in the vast East China Sea. The island is irregularly shaped, with its widest point from north to south measuring about thirty li and its widest point from east to west measuring about forty li. There is a mountain on the island. Shi Chan circled the mountain peak and found a cave on the leeward side of the mountain. He landed at the cave entrance and released Liuli.
At that moment, Liuli looked bewildered. She hesitated, glanced at Shichan, and then quickly looked away before turning and walking into the cave.
Shi Chan looked gently at Liu Li's back, followed her into the cave, and casually released a golden light curtain to seal the entrance.
The man and the fox, eager to escape the rain, went straight into the cave. Neither of them noticed a stone house emitting a faint golden light in an open area some distance away on the hill. One of the wooden doors of the house swayed precariously in the strong wind, creaking loudly. Strangely, however, even the fiercest winds could not blow the door away.
Perhaps it was the faint golden light shining through the gaps between the flat, massive stones that built the stone house that allowed it to stand firm in the storm, showing no signs of being blown away.
The cave where Liuli and Shichan were staying was small; you could see right through it. The cave walls were rugged, and it seemed to be a natural formation. At that time, due to the torrential rain, even though the cave was in a sheltered spot, it was still soaked and very damp inside.
Liuli sat down on the left side of the cave entrance, leaning against the cave wall. She turned her head and looked through the golden light curtain at the raging storm outside, her gaze complex. She didn't look at Shichan, but spoke softly, "Thank you."
Even though she didn't need his protection at all, she still uttered those two words. Perhaps what she was grateful for was that his embrace calmed her panicked heart during that sudden storm.
As she spoke, a surge of black light erupted from her body, and demonic energy began to evaporate the water from her clothes and hair.
Shi Chan sat down opposite Liu Li, cross-legged, a smile on his lips, and said gently, "Miss, you don't need to be so polite."
Liuli turned to look at Shichan, and saw that he was surrounded by golden light. The water on his gray monk's robe, which had been soaked by the sudden downpour, was slowly evaporating. The golden light was gentle, illuminating his gentle features.
Looking at Shi Chan up close, Liuli's eyes suddenly became dazed—this face overlapped with the most profound shadow in her memory. He still looked the same as before, with a gentle expression on his face, as if time had never aged him.
Shi Chan met Liu Li's gaze gently. She didn't speak, so he waited quietly.
After a long while, Liuli finally came to her senses. Perhaps to hide her momentary softness, she replaced the bewilderment in her eyes with coldness and said indifferently, "For the sake of you saving me here today, I will temporarily let bygones be bygones regarding the hatred between us. But after tomorrow, our enmity will still be irreconcilable."
Shi Chan nodded and said with a smile, "I am very happy that you have refrained from fighting with me for one day."
Liuli pursed her lips slightly and looked away from the light screen.
Shi Chan gazed at Liu Li's profile, his eyes filled with longing. He looked at her like that for a while, then spoke gently, "Having been reborn, do you still remember what happened before?"
Liuli didn't want to answer him at first, but after a moment of silence, she seemed to have no control over herself and replied faintly, "I remember."
"That girl..." Shi Chan hesitated for a moment, then asked cautiously, "Do you still remember Bai Ling?"
Liuli's eyelashes trembled slightly. She fell silent again, and after a long while, she whispered, "I remember."
Shi Chan paused for a moment, then continued, "Does the young lady still remember that this humble monk... is Bai Ling?"
Liuli turned to look at him, her gaze slightly cold, and said calmly, "What exactly do you want to say?"
Shi Chan said gently, "This humble monk would like to thank you, young lady. Thank you for saving me from the jaws of a hungry wolf, for raising me, teaching me to speak, and for teaching me to call your name—Liuli..."
"Hmph!" Liuli snorted coldly and said in a chilling voice, "Saving you was the worst thing I ever did in my life, and it's also the thing I regret the most!"
Shi Chan's expression darkened.
Looking at his gloomy expression, Liuli felt a pang of pity. She gave a cold snort, turned away from him, and looked at the torrential rain outside.
Shi Chan looked at Liu Li's profile, hesitant to speak. Ever since the day he first saw Liu Li after her rebirth, he had been begging her for a chance to talk to her properly and help her resolve her inner conflicts. But now that she was right in front of him, he didn't know what to say.
The golden light curtain at the cave entrance blocked out the rain, but it couldn't block out the sound. The sounds of wind, thunder, and torrential rain outside clearly reached the cave, making the silence inside seem somewhat eerie.
After a long silence, Shi Chan spoke gently, saying, "Young lady, I heard from Lingxi that the reason you have become the way you are now is because you were revived by the Soul Summoning Incantation. The Soul Summoning Incantation did not give you those beautiful emotions, so you don't know that those emotions are good and will make you feel relaxed and happy. Hatred will only make your life very difficult. Young lady, I hope you can give up hatred so that you can return to your former self and live happily and easily."
